| buzz has answered it as far as she is concerned. They are artists, the rest of us are philistines. Whatever they do is justifiable because they have that title (artist) |

"Where are the parents of this kid and how did they allow her to have her photo taken nude?"
If you had ANY idea you would know her MOTHER took the photo and her FATHER is the Art Critic for The Age..
anyone who sees this photo/painting in a sexual way needs some serious mental help.. |

| i do not see the photo in a sexual way but do not think the parents are acting in their daughters best interests by allowing this photo to be viewed publicly. Artists are entitled to make their point but not by using a six year old child. And by calling yourself an artist you are not entitled to do whatever you like and then state it is in the name of art! |

The Father is the critic...... He has just made a fool of himself.
He is a critic of other peoples works, not his own families
We are the public & critics as well & we don't get paid for it. The painting is not getting mentioned.
They did it in protest for another artist as stated by them, then get the child to defend them ???
There are sick people in this world that get arrested for pictures of nude children.
They have put a child in harms way that is under 16yrs old under their guardianship, then use her to justify their actions. There are laws to this sort of stuff, that is what people are trying to say.
Also there is a fine line between genius & mad, by the look of the father, he is right on that fine line.
Remember this was done in protest for Bill Henson & people are letting them know it is not right. |

Prime Minister Kevin Rudd has urged those debating the art world's use of naked children in photographs not to engage children in their arguments.
Children were not able to make responsible decisions for themselves in the matter, he said.
An image of six-year-old Olympia Nelson, taken by her mother Polixeni Papapetrou in 2003 was published by Art Monthly Australia magazine this month in protest against the recent furore over Bill Henson's photographs of a naked 13-year-old girl.
Olympia, now aged 11, has said she is "really offended" by Mr Rudd's criticisms of the photo.
She does not believe the photograph of her amounts to abuse and is upset with Mr Rudd, who earlier said he "can't stand" the shot.
Mr Rudd was unmoved by Olympia's comments and said on Tuesday his attitude on the issue had not changed one bit.
"The protection of children, and the innocence of children, is of fundamental importance," he told reporters.
"Secondly, if people want to make a political point in opposition to me, I don't think it's right they use underage children to make that point.
"They can engage the political debate as much as they want. It's a free country.
"But when it comes to the protection of children, I say that should be a foremost responsibility for each of us."
Mr Rudd posed the question: "How can you credibly expect a six-year-old girl to have made their own independent decision about this matter in the beginning?
______________
I did watch this yesterday and I have to agree with Rudd on this one... |

I don't think he will, one artist can not be a critic of another artist work, he can only have an opinion. The public as a whole are the critic & as you see all have spoken. Me, you & most of Australians don't agree with that "minority".
Ask art teachers if they think that is art, alot will say "no", ask teaches if they think that is art, again they will say "no", a minority will say different, but if you read this topic from the beginning no one has mention the painting except 1-2 people, remember the mother is a painter & they did this for all the wrong reasons. The child has done no wrong the parents have, as the Majority has said to which the minority don't like. |

So is Anne Geddes now not OK? All those cute pictures of naked babies with funny hats. A naked child is a naked child whatever their age.

Tell me why her pictures are OK, but not the ones that have recently made the news? |

People do carry on.
If these new age moral enforcers have their way we'll all be burning our kids bath photos lest we be branded pedos. |

A close friend of mine works for *** ifoto - and they are under fairly strict instructions NOT to photograph the nudy bits of children...
They can take naked photos of babies and toddlers and topless boys - but even the nudy bits of toddlers are generally covered by strategically positioned objects and/or draped fabric/clothes...
Makes sense, really - since the digital and printed images are potentially indirectly available to a large number of people...
Even then, some of the costumes and poses I have seen in *** ifotos are borderline...
True, they are generally taken for family albums and walls - but some of them have been copied and posted at the local newsagency/PO by proud grandparents... |

because ..... those cute 'baby' picks are not 'suggestive' poses done by 6yo's that you expect to see in adult mags. |

I bring it back to pedo's because that is what the uproar is based on, that pedophiles will look at a naked child and get all turned on by it.
If one of Ann Geddes babys is laying down - there you have it - sexual pose in the eyes of some. |

Are you for real!! there is a big difference between a child of 3 months and a seventeen year old, a thirteen year old even if you think that is when childhood ends. |

And the child's opinion matter nothing? Isnt this all supposed to be about 'the child'? but their opinion is totally ignored?
longweekend58
We are talking about a six year old child, you take their opinion on what they like to eat or what toy they would like to play with, NOT their opinion on whether they want to have the country see them naked. A small child is looking for security and protection from their parents; not exposure or abuse of any kind. |

;People do carry on. ;
As i see it, the 'people' have a right to voice protest especially regarding the protection of children. It's those who don't see a problem i would have concerns about.
Me not one to run with the ~'stay on side with the hip cool thinking tribe' ~ facade. |

Two images every bit as sexual as the original works in question.
kjm is it right to take naked pictures of children at all? If its good enough to ban from the art world its good enough to ban in the home. Someone is going to be mighty busy censoring all the great art works in the gallerys and cherubs painted on chapels. |
