Jane McGrath's funeral today

The best man at the McGraths' wedding, former Australian test captain Steve Waugh, will join hundreds of mourners at today's funeral for Jane McGrath.

The funeral will be held at the historic Garrison Church, built in Sydney's The Rocks area in the early 1840s, where Jane McGrath married then Test cricketer Glenn McGrath nine years ago.

Ms McGrath, 42, died at her Sydney home last weekend after an 11-year battle with breast and bone cancer, and then a brain tumour.

The former British flight attendant, who became an Australian citizen in 2002, was described this week as a remarkable Australian by Prime Minister Kevin Rudd, who told parliament she would remain "a source of inspiration and hope to all".

The McGrath Foundation said it had been touched by the public's overwhelming response with donations, but the memorial was a private service in a church too small to accommodate the general public.

Jane and Glenn McGrath were both appointed Members of the Order of Australia (AM) in January for establishing the McGrath Foundation, which has raised millions of dollars for the fight against breast cancer.

Glenn McGrath was at his wife's bedside along with children James, 8, and Holly, 6, when she died.

Re:Jane McGrath dead
Pardon me for imposing on everyone's grief (she was a hope and inspiration to all of us), but I'm curious.

How long will this be stickied (or should that be stuck) for by those sensitive souls at Yahoo7?

Will it one day become unstuck and slowly sink into oblivion? Or is it going to be here for perpetuity? So that in the year 2057, people will know that St. Jane of McGrath died to save us all from breast cancer?

Just curious...

Re:Jane McGrath dead
no-it will be here; probably till it doesnt recieve any more real condolence posts-then it will become unsticky and just drift down the page ;unless it is posted on again.
It is a fact; that loved ones do often come and look on these message boards-so it is a nice gesture when someone has been an inspiration-that these threads remain there for a while;in case they do.
No different to a condolence book

It also stops people starting numerous threads and clogging up the pages with them.
One prominent one-helps stop that.

Re:Jane McGrath dead
David, you don't have to read the thread, and maybe you need to ask yourself why you are getting so uptight about it? We need awareness of these things, and if a prominent person is able to do that, all the better.

You must have some prominent person in the world that you take an interest in, be it a politician, sportsperson, etc. Most of us have a hero, it's not a bad thing to admit to ;)

Re:Jane McGrath dead
RIP Jane...

I will pray for your family to give them strength in this difficult time. Sometimes the ultimate healing is when you have to surrender and just give your life to God. No more pain for Jane, she is not suffering anymore.

Re:Jane McGrath dead
"She's the gold on the tip of a morning leaf
She's the pink in the sky at dusk
She's the sun that fills our hearts with warmth
And shines a path for us."

Jane, your good humoured optimism and sunny outlook on life has touched us all.

Re:Jane McGrath dead
A full coverage of the funeral is to be televised on CH9...now.
The service has been delayed as the M5 tunnel is closed...private company runs it, control room has crashed...been closed for 4 hours...people attending the funeral have been caught up in the mess.

It's always the way in Sydney.

Re:Jane McGrath dead
She was an international air hostess.
They met in a bar in Hong Kong...she older than he.
They dated for 2 years, then she got breast cancer.
He loved her and she loved him...and they married 9 years ago in the same church as today's funeral.

Glenn is Oz cricket ROYALTY who graced the cricket fields of the world wearing our Baggy Green cap.
He chose Jayne for his wife.
She was a lovely person who considered the Oz cricket family as her extended family.

Glenn was the KING of fast bowlers...Jayne was his QUEEN.

R.I.P. Jayne, loving wife and mother.

Re:Jane McGrath dead
So sad to see this beautiful lady Jane McGrath gone--i could tell she was a beautiful soul just by looking at her, such a smile of good will and good intention can't be faked---feel very sorry for her husband and children having to go on without a mother and wife.

Re:Jane McGrath dead
What! She's dead!? Oh, oh my GOD! I'm..... I'm so upset, this is really cutting me up inside. My sincere sympathy goes to her family. May she rest in peace and may her legacy be with us to remember forever. She showed inner strength and beautiful soul.
Even though I had never even heard of her until now I am overwhelmed with inconsolable unbearable pain and agony and have an urge to write stuff to a dead person & their family on the internet knowing none of them will ever read it, especially the dead one.
Shocking, just so, so shocking, to find out that someone I have never head of before and knew nothing about has died.

Re:Jane McGrath dead
What? She had breast cancer! Oh my God, that's terrible, so shocking to find out that someone who was going to die died, shocking, just shocking..... well not as shocking as if she was perfectly healthy anyway..... actually it's not shocking at all..... if she was perfectly health & just dropped dead, now that would be shocking. But for the sake of being overly melodramatic & emotional about someone we never even knew, let's just say her death was untimely and shocking anyway ok? Anyway, such a sad day, god bye Jane! OOh AAh Jane McGrath! ooaah Jane McGrath!
