IT'S official. The naked girl that sparked the Bill Henson fuss is not porn. The sight of her on an invitation to the photographer's Sydney exhibition a couple of weeks ago provoked shock and outrage, but the Classifications Board has now declared the picture "mild" and safe for many children.
It is believed the Director of Public Prosecutions is on the verge of advising NSW police that any prosecution of Henson would be unlikely to succeed.
The case against Henson appears close to collapse.
The Classification Board, under its new chief, former head of the ABC Donald McDonald, has now given the young girl on the invitation the rating PG.

While a minority of the board thought the impact of the picture was "moderate" rather than "mild", none of the classifiers thought it deserved banning or called for any restriction on its display.
The board's guidelines state: "Material classified PG may contain material which some children find confusing or upsetting, and may require the guidance of parents or guardians. It is not recommended for viewing or playing by persons under 15 without guidance from parents or guardians."
This verdict is bad news for police hoping to convince the DPP, Nicholas Cowdery, QC, that Henson's photographs would provoke the "offence to reasonable persons" needed to prosecute him as a child pornographer.

Henson's work has been the subject of much debate since New South Wales Police seized photographs featuring a naked 13-year-old girl from an exhibition at Sydney's Roslyn Oxley9 gallery two weeks ago.
Ms Churcher says the photographs are a works of art and depict a sense of innocence.
She says the images were taken out of context.
"It's been made to look obscene by putting those little bars of censorship across areas," she said.
"If you see it in its entirety it's breathtakingly beautiful."

So what exactly was so "absolutely revolting" to Kevin Rudd about the Henson photos?
This whole saga is a classic example of a bunch of minority do-gooders trying to impose their moral standards on the rest of the population by trying to justify it in terms of "the girl was underaged' blah blah blah.
It was done in the name of art. But no... people like Rudd had to jump onto the band wagon because someone complained about the photos!
Australia... commonsense must always prevail.
This was another example of authorities overreacting and being out of touch.
And as for Rudd, his comments were an example of yet another error of judgement on his part. |

| what about advertising which uses far more explicit images than art, the example i use is the calvin clien ad's with under age girls sucking lolly pops. I have far more of a problem with blatantly erotocised images, the henson images look like mannequins not human at that. Time to end the double standards, no more using sex to sell. |

well if all child molesters and rapists were killed
it would set the benchmark of "if u molest or rape a child u will die"
that would make potential child molesters and rapist think twice before ever commiting a horrible crime
it also would show that we would protect our children
until then god help those children since the powers to be who make the laws don't care about the children

You mindless git! if child molestation were a capital crime then perpetrators would then happily kill the child to prtect themselves. There was a case in the US were child rape was a capital crime whereas child murder was not. After he committed the crime he realised that and went back and murdered the child to protect himself.
Thats what you get by ill-considered ideas like that. |
