Army is set to murder over 100 kangaroos living on Defence land...shoot them with tranquilisers then inject them with a killer poison.
Like the death penalty minus the table.
"Too expensive to move them".

would you rather they use the machine guns you wanted issued to the police bambi?
Tranquilizers then a painless injection? better than starving to death. And before you ask why don't they transport them: where are they going to transport to and how are they going to transport?
Have you ever tried to transport a live roo? It aint pretty trust me. |

Yes I have mate in the days I belonged to a wildlife organization. First we had to catch it. Second hog tie it. Third wrap it up in a tarp. Fourth get it in the back of a police paddy wagon to transport it to a wildlife park.
Ever been bitten by one? I have and they don't let go. |

Talk about DESPERATION !
It is the ACT Government
It has NOTHING to do with Rudd
A report has recommended an urgent cull of a mob of kangaroos living on a defence department site in Canberra.
Australian Capital Territory (ACT) Chief Minister Jon Stanhope publicly released a report from Environment Commissioner Maxine Cooper on the impact of kangaroo overgrazing at the Belconnen Naval Transmission Station (BNTS) at Lawson.
Dr Cooper concluded that a cull of the native animals should be carried out without delay to protect lowland native grasslands and threatened species living there.
Mr Stanhope said he found Dr Cooper's analysis compelling and had written to relevant commonwealth ministers stressing the need for urgent action.
"The kangaroos should be removed from BNTS by the most humane method suitable for that site," Mr Stanhope said.
"The commissioner's expert panel advises that the most humane approach would be sedation by darting, then euthanasia by lethal injection."
The panel considered relocating the animals but concluded that would not be humane.
Animal welfare groups oppose culling kangaroos in the ACT.
There was an international outcry in 2004 when about 900 kangaroos were destroyed at the site of a dam supplying water to Canberra.

Why kill kangaroos to save endangered plants and animals?
Natural Temperate Grassland has been described as the most endangered vegetation type in Australia, and the fragments remaining on the two sites contain many threatened species, including Golden Sun Moth, Grassland Earless Dragon, Striped Legless Lizard, Perunga Grasshopper, and Ginninderra Peppercress. While Eastern Grey Kangaroos are abundant and increasing in the ACT, these rare and declining endangered species are faced with extinction if threats, including overgrazing, are not managed. The heavy grazing at Majura has also exacerbated weed spread, another threat to the endangered grassland community.

<Army is set to murder over 100 kangaroos living on Defence land>
The alternative is slow death through starvation, I think I prefer euthanasia. |

<We used to live on roo meat>
REecipe for wallaby stew.
Place wallaby in large pot with water, chopped vegetables and a rock.
Boil until rock is tender when prodded with a sharp knife.
Discard wallaby and eat rock. |

"Army is set to murder over 100 kangaroos living on Defence land...shoot them with tranquilisers then inject them with a killer poison."
Well the term "murder" is wrong for a start. Murder is the deliberate pre-meditated killing of a human being.
Cull, kill, slaughter are the correct choices for this sentence |

IT NEEDS TO BE DONE!
As long as its done humanely than I have no problem with it.
What are you going to do rebel sit behind your computer and rant? Why don't you come up with an alternative or offer to take them all to your place and look after them. |

Weather dampens kangaroo cull protests
By AAP
The cull was announced on Friday afternoon when defence spokesman Brigadier Andrew Nikolic said the federal government had withdrawn support for research into relocating some 400 surplus kangaroos from the former navy transmitting station in Belconnen in Canberra's north.
"Defence therefore has no option but to undertake a cull," he said.
That prompted an outcry from animal welfare activists who said hundreds would turn out on Saturday.
But he said many more could be called upon once the cull started.
Mr Brennan said there were some 600 kangaroos on the 200-hectare site which was too many.
He said a figure of $3.5 million had been cited as the cost of relocating the kangaroos from Belconnen into NSW.
"The problem is, it's going to cost a lot of money no matter what they do. Because it is in suburbia they can't use firearms," he said.
"It doesn't matter whether they tranquilise these kangaroos and kill them or dart these kangaroos and move them, the cost is going to be very high.
The kangaroos will be tranquilised with a dart gun then injected with the deadly chemical Lethabarb.
The cull was initially planned for earlier this year but was postponed to allow consideration of alternatives.
It drew international condemnation by animal activists including British group Viva!, which has the support of celebrity rock stars Sir Paul McCartney and Chrissie Hynde. |
