DENTAL SHARKS Reply to this message
Is there an industry watchdog to check what dental clinics charge? Walking into a dental clinic is like having an open blank cheque book. What's Fair Trading doing?
How can a dentist justify $250 for a 20minutes quick fix on a dental chair. Then patient asked to return for more visits to fill up the dentists' loot with a total of $2100 quoted to fix what is known as root canal job.
Dental care is beyond the reach of the average working class families. It is about time that the hardworking fairdinkum average Australian families get their share of affordable dental care besides those on single mum pensions, aged pensions and the long term unemployed!
Can someone help stop this shameless rip off? Where's the moral dentists? You guys should be ashamed of yourselves. Did dentists choose their profession to justify daylight robbery without illegal weapons but just with their shiny dental tools?
Dentists how can you sleep at night doing this to your countrymen?
Come Australians - it is about time we shake this up! |

Why don't we just introduce another damn tax..all those earning over $100,000 can pay a 5% dental tax so all of australia can have perfect teeth. Problem solved.
KIDDING..couldn't help a little sarcastic humour...but you are dead right...Dentists charge way too much. |

take son to dentist he has a tooth ache
x ray $150
I think I can save the tooth he says he will have to come back 3 times (root canal) to clean it out, on the fourth visit we fill it looks as good as new.
how much? was the stupid, stupid question that I asked $600 first 3 4th 500.
After smelling salts given to bring back around LOL how much to pull it (the tooth LOL) incl. x ray $350.
NOw what do you think the answer was?
If you guessed pull it you would be right.
He was horrified that I said pull it, he asked me why, answer was easy son was a first year apprentice on $250 a week how did he even think that he would be able to pay for it, then with a smile on my face I looked at him & said I guess he could give yo his first born that might cover it I guess, I thought it was funny, don't think that the dentist did.
RIP OF DAM RIGHT THEY ARE!!!!!!!!!! |

| I would feed him a truck load of best grade potato salad if he would fix my teeth! So the moral of the story is: If you can't afford dental care, make sure your daughter marries a Dentist! I hope he is the more caring one - fairdinkum australian! |

| Good on you! Sock it to them. If they are so rude as to demand the average joe's weekly paycheck, there should be no mercy towards dentists as well. We should not accept their charges politely, lying down! If enough of us kick a fuss about their shark tactics, maybe they may change their shameless price list! |

I think the problem is there is no medicare coverage of dentists. If we were to have coverage for them the price would come down to be comparable to a visit to the GP.
On that note however it now costs me $50 a visit to the quack so I rarely go. |

| quality dental care costs - but of course it costs a LOT more if you do not take care of your teeth - brushing twice a day, flossing and using mouth wash, if you do all these things you won't have such expensive dental bills. i had all 4 of my wisdom teeth taken out because they were impacted and the roots were extremely close to facial nerves. i went privately (i have no health insurance) got knocked out for the operation, had an excellent dental surgeon who was very gentle (no brusing, very little swelling and i was eating normal food within 24 hours) and it cost me $1950 all up (thats with xrays & junk). you can see the difference between how much dental care costs for good healhty teeth that are taken care of, and teeth that are neglected - it's no one's fault but your own if you have bad teeth and then have to pay to get them fixed (btw i have perfect, straight teeth - i was taught at a young age by my mother to brush twice a day, floss & use mouthwash daily) =P |

| $50 is the standard fee for seeing a GP - you pay then go to medicare and claim it - you get about 30% back so really it's not that much |

no bulk billing near us and four different docs at the surgery charge between 50 and 60 bucks a visit. Kids are free up to 17 and pensioners and healthcare caard holders pay nothin but if you don't have any of the above you have to pay up front. ayaou cannot just pay the gap.
As for Dentists. You can be high and mighty about tooth care brushing ect but when I had to go it still cost me 100 bucks over the rebate from my health fund for visit and filling. What the hell is the point of a health fund when they don't give a fair rebate and dentists that charge so bloody much? A health fund that we rarely ever use for anything other than optical or dental. We have top cover too. |

What medical background do the health ministers have in Australia? Do they have any idea the health problems that can occur from bad dental health? Dental should be included in medicare. Many headaches, infections, blood problems, and digestive problems can be caused by a lack of dental health.
I know of a fellow in America who was having terrible neck and facial pain...he went to an orthopedist and was told the problem was in his vertebrae and it should be fused...luckily, he went to the dentist for a cleaning and found out he had an impacted tooth...it was causing all the pain...if he had had the vertebrae fused he would have lost a lot of neck mobility...how many times do you think this sort of thing is happening here? |

i use a dental clinic that only charges the scheduled fee, no gap. So with private cover, i pay nothing at all for routine stuff. Family cover with my wife and two kids we've been 16 times in the last year and paid nothing out of pocket. Only value for I money I get out of private cover though.
So, no they are not all sharks. |

| depends who you go to. In 40 years I have only found two dentists who I would go back to and I have been to several. Years ago a German dentist gave me an injection on the wrong side then root canal treatment which took 4 visits and huge amount of money, only to have it extracted later anyway. Another dentist extracted a fractured molar and I was in sheer agony drooling for 3 days straight laid up in bed. He refused a medical certificate for work - ar5ehole. My current dentist takes 6 months to get into but he is brilliant. I have been going for the past ten years. My teeth were somewhat ruined as a child as my parents couldn't afford dentists and sent me to the dental school. For that reason alone I have private health cover. |

Not the dental hospital near central station in Sydney.
They weren't training dentists there mate it was a school for apprentice butchers and panel beaters. My parents took [dragged]us there. |

Those dental sharks are the reason I don't have teeth.
Seriously though , they are rip offs , along with doctors and chiropractors and optometrists . I made an appointment for my son to see the peadiatrician and its going to cost me 180 dollars ! I'll get 116 of it back apparently , but it used to cost eighty dollars and that was 6 months ago. My regular doctor who bulk bills kids (yes theres actually some doctors around that still do that )does a much thorough job of checking him . My Gp spends about 20 mins of checking and questions etc where as the peadiatrician has us in and out in 5 minutes . I'd by pass him altogether but my son has an ongoing condition which requires him to see a peadiatrician every 6 months ...and because he's the only one in town he is just raking in the money . *** er. |
