| He virtually told Rudd and co sitting opposite him that they were useless and a lot of hot air who promised voters the world and delivered nothing...had done nothing about supermarket prices and petrol prices....or interest rates. |

I thought Mr Nelsons reply was bold, articulate and relevant, It good to see him coming out of the dust with a wild shake.
This is Democracy in action, I await labors retaliation, maybe a tax on opposing views? |

ELEVEN YEARS: And so indignant about Pensioners; petrol prices; working families. I would say too little too late and by Mr Nelson's own admission "They are the Government in Waiting" they have learned nothing.
I forgot they are the best "friends Australia ever had" |

Nelson: I'm blocking the budget
BRENDAN NELSON has staked his leadership on a bold promise to reduce petrol excise by 5 cents a litre and a pledge to block in the Senate up to $6 billion in tax and revenue measures contained in the federal budget.
The Coalition will control the Senate until July 1. Dr Nelson said it would block Labor's increase to the taxes on mixed drinks, which were designed to curb teen binge drinking, but would also raise $3.1 billion over the next four years.
He made the promise despite the Liberals and minor parties sending the tax off to a Senate committee yesterday.
The Coalition will also block budget plans to lift the Medicare surcharge to enable more people to choose not to have private health insurance without being penalised. The Government believes 485,000 people will drop private cover. The industry believes 750,000 policies will go and the Coalition believes premiums will soar for those who still have insurance.

Now he's NOT going to block them in the senate as "That would be irresponsible".
It's irresponsible not to, after you promised to.
Game over...new leader please. |

Top job by Brendon Neslon. When it comes to articulating a message, Nelson certainly does it well. Fantastic!
Why Labor supporters encourage new taxes or increases in existing taxes beats me! They were the ones complaining that the Coalition was overtaxing us. Well just look at what they want to do... alcopop tax, luxury car tax, medicare levy changes... and don't forget the dreaded paid maternity leave that we are all going to have to pay...
Gee... we all know Australia is experiencing record boom times... there's even concern that the record export income will fuel inflation! This means the government is collection record revenues. It means there is no need for additional or extra taxing by the government.
But, heck... what do you expect? We now have a Labor government. Tax tax tax... just the same as Labor ever was... different wrapping paper, but... |

I liked what Nelson had to say last night, very humourous and very pointed.
He was right when he said that Labour won't drop petrol prices just by 'looking at it'. |

And yet, they've been in Govt only 7 months. I must say, I'm not keen on the media manipulation that, I guess, both parties exploit... |

Yep, I wouldn't trust him as far as I could flick a combine harvester. |

<He was right when he said that Labour won't drop petrol prices just by 'looking at it'.>
And yet he demands that Labor do what his own government flatly refused to do over and over again.
An opposition is SUPPOSED to be an alternative government. That is why the opposition has shadow minister positins paid for from the public purse.
If an alternate government says that it is essential that key funding elements should be stripped from a budget, it is also incumbent on them to identify which spending is to be curtailed or what other areas need to have taxes increased to produce a responsible budget.
Failing to do this shows them as either irresponsible, or simply not a credible alternate government. |

How can you say that about the "Best Friends Australia Ever Had"
They (Collectively) will have to go back to school to learn that when you lose government, you must have done something wrong. |

Nelson was presenting a budget reply speech which means he was supposed to be telling us what the Liberal alternative would have been.
He didn't.
They obviously have no idea, no plan and no alternative and do not have the personnel to provide an alternate option.
In the end if you look at his comments all he really did was say this is a good budget, OK we don't like the Alcohol or luxury car changes (neither do I)- well if that is it I would think not much to complain about.
