I didn't go to uni or tafe, just left school and got a job as a trainee in my chosen trade. Like everyone i did it tough for many years but now I'm laughing. In fact I earn far more than my brothers that have degree's. Not lucky or smarter than average, just worked hard for 20 years and after all that time i'm damn good at what i do.

So you need rich parents to get a trade or get into uni. Wrong, you get a trade or get into tafe/uni through your own efforts.

totally agree there.

A number of uni students I know work full time and are studying with a full work load.

The main point I was trying to make was that I do not blame others for my choices and never did I complain, circumstances forced me to drop out of school and instead of saving my money to go to uni. I chose to get married and have children. Just because I did not get an education does not give others the right to put me down because I do not earn a high income. There was no baby bonus back then either, I am so glad I am not starting my family today baby bonus or not.

I'm not puting anyone down, i just think all should be entitled to the same rights because as you said we make our own choices. In my mind anything else is communism.

some people have disabilities such as mental illness. surely they deserve a break instead of some greedy cretin on $150,000. what happened to compassion.

For the record I don't have kids, don't plan on ever having them and i've never had any assistance from the gov in any way, shape or form. Everything I am and have is a result of my own efforts.

We have two boys, now grown up and have never claimed a brass rarzoo from the Government, in fact when I was young there was no such thing as the dole, work or starve basically. I think by memory there were food vouchers

fact of the matter is that a society is made up of thousands of different jobs, some prestigous and some boring and menial. all those jobs are needed and worthy. if you are a lucky person or smart or hardworking and end up in the lucky catagory then why do you need assistance. you've had it good under howard at the expence of your so called unders so let let the pendulan swing back. you might be earning a little less but you'll still have good money and australia might become a little more cohesive. it's looking like 2 tribes at the moment that don't know one another and that isn't smart.

if you live in sydney then go for a drive to north sydney and then to blacktown . the difference is scary. and it all isn't hard work and uni degrees either. the rich syphon off their council money. howard made that easier too.

You are right, there were food vouchers.
My son is also now grown up, it took me six years to have him as we had to work hard to get where we are now. Its ridiculous that these people are getting paid to have babies. Australians are simply SPOILT!!! Just take a look around the world how people are starving and here we are whinging and getting greedy by the minute. Simple solution should be if you want to have kids you should be prepared to work hard to take care of your OWN kids not expect the govt to do that. Money going to al these people who don't need them is a waste, money should be aimed at the pensioners and the homeless.
People complain they have a big mortgage, these are the people who go out and get big fancy homes and then later find they can't afford it. Learn to live humble, then you'll find you can budget better.

Simple solution should be if you want to have kids you should be prepared to work hard to take care of your OWN kids not expect the govt to do that.

Did you miss something? Isn't it the government that is trying to encourage people to have more kids to populate the country? Isn't it the government that expects the mothers not to stay at home to look after her children, but expects her to work to pay for someone else to look after them. (Thought I would throw that in before you start on the childcare rebate). Where is the sense in any of it. Is having children only for the rich? I know young couples who do not have kids who went into a morgage 4 years ago with a plan to start their family now. Those plans have been put on hold because of fears of losing their homes when they are reduced to 1 income. I for one would like to be a gran before I am to old to enjoy having the little rugrats around.
