I bought a PS3 late last week. Got the games playing, kicked ass... lovin it.
However, yesterday I ran into an issue when I tried to play my first Blu-Ray DVD.
I put the disc in and got a loading screen, however after that, I got a message come up - "Mode not supported." It was a message from the TV, not the PS3.
I have a Samsung 40" lcd, 1080p. I have the PS3 hooked up via HDMI.
Now... I tried connecting through the other 2 HDMI ports. In Port 2, the screen went purple, and I could hear sound but no vision. Port 3 was the same as port 1 - "mode not supported".
I tried all the different picture & sound modes. I updated the PS3's firmware, but I'm at a loss. The games still work fine, but no Blu-Ray.
Does anybody have a clue? |

| A mate had s similar problem and reckoned it was all down to which port he plugged it in to. The Samsung has a few HDMI ports and from what I gather only one of them works with PS3 - he had to use the correct one with the Ps3 set to HDMI. I'm not a techo but remember his weekend of frustration. Have you tried tech forums? |

| No sorry mate - whenever I get stuck with something like this (in my case, how do I turn the light in the toilet on) I just Google it. |

is your samsung "true HD"????? 1920x1080 res because if its not thats why your tv is telling you "Mode not supported" BLU-RAYS WILL ONLY BE ABLE TO BE VIEWED ON A "TRUE" HD TV.
if your tv say it has "upscale" to 1080p that still wont be any good!!!!
blu-ray are full HD and will NOT play on normal dvd players and NOT on true hd tvs, some ps3 games are not true HD and your tv will be able to "upscale" it through the hdmi!!! |

Yeah... it's a Samsung LA40M81BDX.
According to the specs, its resolution is 1920 x 1080, progressive scan.
I'd be annoyed if it wasn't, because I specified I wanted full HD to the sales guy when I bought it. |

Nah, it was a rental from Video Ezy... the animted flick, "Surf's Up".
There was a loading screen... which showed the progress of the disc and then.. black.
When I tried HDMI port 2, it went to a whacked out purple screen and I could hear the audio of the DVD Menu, but no picture.
I've contacted Playstation support, hopefully they'll get back to me. |

no worries rekshun on that site maybe the problem you are having it's all down to setting your ps3 to match your tv eg" upscale, downscale 480,720,1080p. hope this helps you i was thinking about ps3 for blu-ray movies but i will stick with what i have until all the bugs are fixed!!!!!
try your 720p setting on your tv {set the mode in menu on tv setup} and connect your ps3 to the component on the tv port and see if you get a pic and sound????? ps3 should auto downscale to match tv input |

You should be glad it didn't work on that particular dvd. That movie sucks. Would have been a shame if it hadnt worked on something good. |

Problem solved.
It turns out that it was something to do with setting the BDs frame rate at 24khz. It was on a setting of "Automatic" and needed to be switched off. |

You bl00dy champions!
I've had exactly the same problem since I bought my PS3 and LA40M81BDX a few weeks ago.
My Blu-ray copy of "300" has been sitting on the table taunting me since then!
Can't wait to get home and fix the problem....Thanks, made my week! |
