Heard of Solaris, though not seen it operating...
OF little interest perhaps: SCO_v._Novell
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SCO_v._Novell
and/or
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SCO-Linux_controversi es
The main thing is despite some disagreement the Linux/Unix world continues, and of more interest, the products are now far easier and compatable to NON-Technical (self) users needs and desires.

the Linux/Unix world pre-dated Windows by many years & will be around many years after MicroCrap bites the dust. FWIW, the internet wouldn't exist without unix, in fact some 85% webservers & mailservers use the infinitely more reliable open source (FREE to all you peasants) apache / sendmail applications in favour of the inferior
Internet Information Server / Exchange Server disasters. Even AppleMac has been based on FreeBSD unix since OSX |

The average peasant would have a hard time distinguishing between Ubuntu & Solaris although there isn't much in common under the bonnet. Sun Microsystem operating systems are bulletproof industrial strength products and are used by humungous companies who need something that works, as opposed to MicroCrap products that were designed to cater for the great unwashed. Solaris operating systems don't need need a security update pack five times per day or a reboot three times per update, and the StarOffice suite opens every one of the sixteen odd versions of Word docs without blinking an eye. No worry about virii, trojans & other assorted malware because Solaris is immune from infection from such nonsense |

In whiteman english. Windows is a marketing issue rather than a properly sorted out product. Microsoft spends untold billions to convince the sheeple their crappy products are essential.
Other companies like Sun Microsystems don't need to do the advertizing bit because their user base is infinitely more intelligent
Compare Rolls Royce or Ferrari to Hyundai, or even worse, those stupid 'Great Wall' HOS. On one one hand you have a product thats universally recognized as the absolute best in its field, so advertizing would be superfluous, on the other hand you have the worst crap imaginable, so bad in fact that only a massive advertizing campaign can hope to convince the moronic sheeple that the product is a 'must have' |
