HP Pavillion dv9000 series laptops Reply to this message
Hi - I'm wondering if anyone else out there has bought one of these laptops and is having problems with it. HP are now replacing my motherboard for the 3rd time. My DVD burner is now also no.3 and I've had to return it to factory settings. My screen is now flickering and the system often crashes on startup. Not bad for a $2500 machine that was to be my old PC replacement. I've just met another person with the same probs and it's got me curious as to how many others are out there. HP don't seem to care about my down time or the fact that I have to travel for an hour to take it in to the repair shop.

I'd be going for the lemon policy...is it still under warranty???I'd ask for a completely new replacement or better still call the ombudsman and see if they can help.

I purchased my HP Pavillion Laptop last June. I have not received the product I was sold. Soon after purchase a screeching noise kept happening on certain keys. I have had the keyboard replaced twice, I have spent hours upon hours with tech support in India who have tried many "fixes" which have now created many issues by removing exe files and I cannot open files. The screeching noise continues and it is embarrassing in meetings. HP don't care, they give you the run around until you tire and throw it away. I have requested my money back many times. Today they are sending another technician who is replacing the mother board, returning the laptop to factory settings and I have spend the last 4 hours doing a back up which has failed twice so far. I am unable to use the laptop, would this NOT be considered as false advertising as the item DOES NOT DO WHAT IT IS ADVERTISED TO DO - SIMPLY WORK ! Very frustrating.

HP LAPTOP FLICKERING SCREEN FIX FIX FIX FIXXXXXXXXXXXXXX: On the dv9000 series laptops many encounter the flickering screen issue. If you have the issue where you tap the screen or the computer and teh screen changes from bright to dark to medium to flicker etc etc. tehn here is your fix. On your screen in every corner remover the round rubber covers over teh screws and remove teh fifth cover on the top center of the screen housing. Once removed, remove all 5 screws, once all 5 screws are removed start it the upper right hand corner when looking at the screen and start to pull the two halves apart, continuing to seperate teh full top to the left corner then down both sides finally at the base grab hold of the plastic where it meets teh screen and pull outward away from the scren toward the laptop keyboard, its a bit dificult and almost feeling as if its going to snap but it will eventualy snap away from its back half. There arent anymore screws holding it back so relax, just the 5 as specified in the corners and the top center THATS IT! ok so once its seperated right in the bottom center where the HP logo is you will see a 6" plastic elongated strip and on the left side notice the clip has come loose, maybe even disconnected? if your screen is completely black then chances are it may be fully uncliped, so unclip it and reclip teh fitting / harness back together and that should do it! Check your screen and see if it ligt up without issue and then reassemble the unit. Good luck, beats a 5 week down time with HP!

Matthew's solution really works, thank you! I was stuck out of the country when I started having this problem, but now it seems to be fixed.

Yup i just tried this on my Pavillion dv6000. For months it has been flickering driving me MAD! I followed Mathews instruction - pretty similar for the DV6000 - which has 2 screws on the top centre (rather than one). I pushed the clips in - tho they did not seem to be dislodged. However the problem is now solved. Thanks Mathew.

I have a nearly 3 year old HP dv5000 laptop and neither of us have had any trouble with it. That we didn't do ourselves anyway; I accidentally spilled red cordial on the keyboard. It still works fine except for the keys being muddled but I just plug in a cheap usb keyboard.

Re:HP Pavillion dv9000 series laptops Reply to this message
Hi Guys
I have an 18month old DV9000 which now gives out a continuous beep code on booting up and is ridiculaously slow considering I use it for business and its not overburdened with games etc. I spent over $150 with the approved HP repair company who assured me it was fine and now after turning it on after returning home after an extended business trip, its doing exactly the same things again!!
can anyone advise the current BIOS release that can be used and if this is a possible solution. Any other thoughts gratefull received as I don't expect to get any sense out of HP or their supplier.

Once removed, remove all 5 screws, once all 5 screws are removed start it the upper right hand corner when looking at the screen and start to pull the two halves apart, continuing to seperate the full top from right to the left corner then down both sides finally at the base grab hold of the plastic where it meets the screen and pull outward away from the scren toward the laptop keyboard, its a bit dificult and almost feeling as if its going to snap on the bottom but it will eventualy snap away from its back half without issue. There arent anymore screws holding it back so relax, just the 5 as specified in the corners and the top center THATS IT! Ok so once its seperated right in the bottom center where the HP logo sat on that plastic piece you removed , you will see a 6" plastic elongated strip and on the left side notice the clip/wire harness has come loose, maybe even disconnected? if your screen is completely black then chances are it may be fully uncliped,,, either way unclip it and reclip the fitting / harness back together and that should do it! I have had tons of trouble from mine as well. I have wiped it, replaced the DVD drive twice, and sent it to the factory. Everytime I suggest that it be replaced I get stall tactics. I will not get another HP.

Re:HP Pavillion dv9000 series laptops Reply to this message
Same problem here with my HP Pavilion DV9000. the laptop has been great until its graphics card show some strange problems. Screen image is fuzzy, just vertical lines. HP don't care and warranty is out. And sending back to them cost big money and they don't guarantee my data. I had to look for a local computer service company and they fixed it for me for a much cheaper price. I did some online search and found this company:

http://safemode.com.au/SAFEMODE/services/home/lapt op_repair_hp_pavilion_dv9000.htm

lucky I'm just 7km from their office so got it fixed, now it's working perfectly. anyone out there who have same problem: don't bother calling HP, they don't help!!!
