I went shopping to buy my son a new desk top. (the deal was I was going to get myself a mini laptop but he offered me this laptop to get him a desk top. he's so sweet lol)

I was told that I should wait two weeks because Windows was coming out with a new OS and it would already be installed.

I was also told that to change this system (Vista) over to the new OS would take something like 20 hours. Erase the entire pc and install.

The question, after reading the Vista vs XP thread, is do I want to change or leave it as it is? And do I want this new OS installed in the desk top I buy?

Also anyone's impressions of Firefox vs IE. I've tried both and like the Mozilla better.

Shop around, most vista platforms are being sold with an offer to update to WIN 7. Im sure that if you wait you should be able to grab the PC you want with the new OS pre-installed (although I hate a pre-installed OS, much better to DIY). And go Mozilla

I'd be amazed if it would take any longer than 30 minutes. I did an upgrade from XP to Vista in 20 minutes, so I don't think it will be a problem

Windows 7

I think there is an upgrade from Vista (its basically the same OS as Vista) so I seriously doubt you would have to format and reinstall everything..

I'm just going by news reports on CNN. I like the set up I'm using. I've had no troubles.

Re:Help! Reply to this message
arctickeno it depends on what you will use your new computer for?? xp is to date for me a very good OS vista is rubbish a lot of programs just do not work as they should on vista {mainly drivers conflicts} had the beta version of window7 and a version i downloaded from the usa and found it was crap it is built around vista.

again you may like the new OS but for me as i burn alot of things xp is the best for me.
