I've just upgraded my Ad-Aware [free] and had the option of also installing Google Chrome, I declined. I've heard of it, so did I do right or should I have installed it

Re:Google Chrome Reply to this message
Tried it, didn't like it that much. I run IE8, Firefox, & occasionally Opera under Win 7 RC on the laptop, and IE8 beats 'em all, if you can be bothered and/or have the time to learn to config and use it properly. Certainly craps on IE7 from a great height. IMHO.

Re:Google Chrome Reply to this message
But it would be VERY good on a lower-spec machine like a netbook as it uses very few system resources, and IS quite fast.

Re:Google Chrome Reply to this message
tivey :-)

u xpressed my exact opinion... ie8 is still bit bloated and that is why i am using mainly ffox (which is going actually same way!!!), but next upgrade and i will ditch probably ffox for benefit of ie8...

ie8 is working excellently on win7, so is ffox, therefore personal preferences.

chrome is on the stage of ie3 or netscape...

Re:Google Chrome Reply to this message
I was running IE8 on Win XP, and it wasn't that happy.
Haven't tried it on Vista.
BUT, on Win 7, it is fast, reliable, AND secure.

Anyway, Win 7 is out tomorrow, try it, you will NOT be disappointed if you have the slightest clue how to use/configure/tweak an OS.
Make no mistake, this IS the BEST OS that Microsoft has EVER done.
This is as big as the change from Win 3.11 to Win 95 (Windows 4.0), and the same mind-set that hated Win 95, hates Win 7, for the same totally unjustified reasons.
MANY of you should NOT be allowed NEAR a PC without supervision.

Exactly, personal preferences.

I do use Firefox, and Opera, on various machines, for certain (usually SLOOOWWW) sites, but have IE8 set up with some after-market trickery on my main machine (I have about 9) and it DOES beat the rest, hands down. Sorry if you don't agree, you are welcome to your opinions & preferences.

Those who disliked IE6 & IE7 WILL get a pleasant surprise with IE8 (but it isn't happy on Win XP).

Re:Google Chrome Reply to this message
Just downloaded chrome and am using it now.

Loads faster than firefox (and ie of course) on my work pc but the add ons are pretty scarce and dont automatically install.

I want to install an adblock type of addon but looks like I have to know how to change/edit the code to do this.

I dont understand that.

When I use IE I have to click on the icon and wait for it to start and load my home page. And when I click on links it takes a long time to do that too.

Much longer than firefox and chrome.

Re:Google Chrome Reply to this message
IE bulk display is run by a dll that is loaded by explorer.exe when you start your system. IE uses this same dll to display pages (shdocvw.dll). All the frame around this dll (menus, borders, scrollbars etc...) are in the main application which (on my system) is only 622k in size. Firefox is larger plus it is PE compressed (decompresses in memory before running the application) this adds to load time.

The biggest reason why IE would load slower is because of addons and so forth.

Generally speaking tho, on a fresh built systems, nothing loads faster than IE, unless an application is preloaded first for the other browsers.

I use firefox but it has alot of weaknesses ive noticed of late.

We shouldnt NEED supervision.
