Vista vs XP Reply to this message
My own computer is currently on it's way down to Sydney for repairs. I bought it installed with Vista, as I felt it was better to get the latest.
Anyway, luckily I was able to borrow a computer from one of my kids for the month I was told my own might be away.
It has XP installed, the best version.

My impression after one day is that Vista is way better. Can't understand why some say they will stick to XP until it dies.

Re:Vista vs XP Reply to this message
Just so you know, Microsoft have admitted Vista is a lemon and have actually written it off. They will be offering high discounts for Vista users when they release Windows 7!!

Re:Vista vs XP Reply to this message
Having a lot of experience with BOTH XP and Vista, XP is by far a lot more of a superior Operating system to use. Vista has very low driver compatibility issues among other things.

However, saying that, I am currently testing the new Windows 7 and will get back with my opinion in time!

I am FINALLY getting used to my Visata, after a year and a half....and finally finding it okay now.

I learned on XP, and used it for 4 years, so of course I preferred it. (however, I still know zilch about computers)lol

Re:Vista vs XP Reply to this message
Don't knoew what's going on but this 'puter on XP has suddenly started posting, previewing, etc, as quick as my own lap top Vista did. Instead of taking 40 seconds for each movement.
Previously it was so slow I stopped checking for mistakes in preview.

And the latest PC mag I bought has a CD with the new Windows 7 to try called Windows 7 Release Candidate. However I will wait until I get my own 'puter back from Sydney before trying it out.

Well, seems some still slip through the radar. Still don't know why things improved so drastically though.

Re:Vista vs XP Reply to this message
Dallone, I think you'll like it (Win 7).

I've been using it since the Beta was first released, and am now on the RC.

Yet to see a BSOD, I kid you not.

Driver/hardware compatibility is excellent, it runs a lot of older stuff that Vista (and sometimes XP) simply wouldn't look at.

I'll keep using the RC till Win 7 SP1 comes out, and will definitely then purchase it (but it has to be the Ultimate edition, for me).

Re:Vista vs XP Reply to this message
Worst aspect about Vista is that your MS Office is restricted for XL and Word.
After 3 months(?) it closes down so you can only read it, else you have tobuy the full version.
Heard theres way around that but is a bit of mucking around if you dont know what your doing.

Whereas XP doesnt squeeze more cash out of you.

Re M.Tivey

PC Authority mag, which has the free download for Windows 7 says, on page 66, after 13 pages on W7 earlier,
"While we consider this a high quality and stable release, it is not the finished product. This software could crash your computer or cause you to lose files or information. Microsoft is not providing technical support for the RC release and is not responsible for business related downtime.
Do not install Windows 7 RC release on your primary home or work computer."

Whats a BSOD?

Re:Vista vs XP Reply to this message
Thanks for that Carl.

As for Windows 7, might leave it for a while until I get another computer, update. I am quite happy with Vista at present, well will be when I get my Vista laptop back from Sydney.

Re:Vista vs XP Reply to this message
Vista is what you get when Microsoft tries to ape the Mac OS. Might as well stick to the original and best (Mac OS, that is).

I didn't get a substantial answer,lol.

Re:Vista vs XP Reply to this message
Dallone, I KNOW that I shouldn't use it as my main OS, hence, the P4 desktop is still XP Pro. But, mate, learn the tricks & tweaks in 7 and it is simply the best OS that I have ever used. And I've used them all, since DOS 3.

'Blue Screen Of Death '

These were endemic in Win 95/98/98SE,and (the ultimate BAD OS), Win ME, and were certainly not unknown in Win XP.

Equally not unknown in Vista.

In the 8 or so months that I have been using Win 7, I have yet to see ONE!

Re:Vista vs XP Reply to this message
Received my computer back, without being fixed under warranty as they claimed the damage was not covered in warranty, and immediately notice the difference.

Writing looks so much better. Ahhhhhh. I'd never use XP again unless it was an emergency.

PS, the damage was to the case, not inside, so everything works as usual. (Just can't close it anymore.)
Thank you JB Hi-Fi for your "Extended Care Plan" for $240 or so. NOT!!!!

And I just paid $39.95 for another year of Kaspersky.
