Can I do this from home by direct debit
Just come back from the bank, they want a $30 fee for $150 for them to do it so thought about a bank cheque, they want $10 to write one of them out
Their conversion rate was 92.2, when I got home the up to date rate was 93.7, sneaky huh! |

I don't think you can to the US. Last year I bought 2 items through eBay in the 'states. I sent a major OZ bank cheque, with enough to cover the conversion. Was advised by both sellers though later that it was going to cost them heaps to be able to cash it there. In both instances my cheques were returned.
The next time I did it I changed money to US dollars at an exchange and sent it through the mail. Strangely enough something went wrong with this transaction also and again, my money was returned in full. |

simplest (and cheapest) way is if you have credit card - direct credit card money transfer. you need to know recipient credit card details and name and directly transfer money.
another way, more secure, create paypal account linked to your bank account and then directly transfer through paypal to recipient - cost is about 2.5% value of the transaction, in case of $150.00 cost is then $3.75
www.paypal.com.au
and yes, i hate e-bay... |

| paypal is good for that and it also gives you the conversion as well, and other then their monthly fee they dont charge for transfering to US dollars, and ebay is about to make paypal a manditory option for ebay anyhow, but yes bpay is another option. |

"What forms of payment do you accept for international orders?
We only except payment via Wire Transfer, Money Order, or U.S. Funds."
---------
That's how they want it payed, didn't think about paypal or bpay but is it worth the effort for just a once off.
Thanks for your help anyway |

No, its not really sneaky. If you don't know much about conversion rates then can I tell you that the conversion rate on a bank draft for overseas can differ in exchange rate to cash.
The $10 they would have charged you goes towards their commission for offering the product to you. Bare in mind that most foreign drafts need to be couriered from Travelex which usually gets dispatched in 24 hours. $10 is pretty reasonable if you ask me.
Also, the $30 they wanted to charge you would have been for a telegraphic transfer, and considering this is the quickest and safest way to electronically send funds overseas, again, I think this is reasonable. |
