It's not a good idea to run two firewalls. A lot of 3rd party ones will disable the windows one by default.
I've run a few different ones - I found Zone Alarm wasn't too bad but had an annoying habit of hogging the CPU.
I reverted back to the standard Windows firewall after realising I was suffering from net paranoia. |

its not paranoia...Windows firewall is not enough. Most of the Windows stuff is krap as it is. Its why there's a huge 3rd party software market.
try Comodo Pro Firewall, its free, but not the most user friendly. But this is the BEST firewall tested by independent sources.
or Ashampoo Firewall. Easy to use. |

"kerio have small footing and very step learning curve."
True,
Kerio bought the software from a company called Tiny software.
They made great firewalls and still do (mostly commercial i think now)
Kerio is a great firewall tho.
Comodo is very good as well, can be similar in complexity as kerio and others.
Firewalls are not the most user friendly things but they are worth learning about.
Oh and a little tip, if a hacker reeeeaaaallllly wants in to your pc, fire will NOT stop them. |

A friend of mine works as an 'Ethical Hacker". If he wants in badly enough, he gets in. |

technically true, yes.
but don't let this make you rush for you anti-paranoia pills.
the more secure you are the better. On the balance of probability, a hacker will break into a less secure system and bypass a more secure PC.
A bit like a burglar looking to do a break and enter. If he walks past a house with a window open, he'll enter that house instead of the one with the window closed.
Not true in all cases, but moral of the story is: secure you PC as best you can. You minimise the risk, but you can't remove the risk completely. |
