You can remove the little round battery on the motherboard for 2 mins ,place back in and it will reset your computer to default settings. Make sure the power is turned off .

Re:Forgot password for 'puter Administra ... Reply to this message
Hi Phill......that doesn't work....had actually tried it before.......when I go to "change a users account" (even as the "owner", :Adminstrator just does not show up!

This 'puter is set up so that the 'administrator' has higher privedges than other administrators accounts, like my own........ The login name of "administrator" requires a password.
Can't create another user file called "Adimistrator", won't let me.

What does "bios passwords" MEAN????

Re:Forgot password for 'puter Administra ... Reply to this message
ok jeanz, i am assuming that you have been locked out of your admin account because you have 'forgotten' the password, or it has been incorrectly typed too many times

microsoft only gives you 5 tries, then it locks the account
tight
forever

Microsnot will also tell you that there is no way to recover from this except a full format and reinstall

not so

some clever russian types have a lil program you can download, burn to a bootable CD, boot the computer with it, and then a utility allows the password stuff to be cleared, reset, changed, or whatever u want

the program?
its called EBCD, for Emergency Boot...

get a local geeky type to help u with the download and disc making...

oh, and if your pooter is newer, with a SATA boot disk, you will need extra bits to get it to work

it CAN be done, i have done it

Re:Forgot password for 'puter Administra ... Reply to this message
BIOS password means the password needed to access the BIOS on your pooter, and someimes, some fools set it so that you have to enter a password just to turn the damned thing on

BIOS is a little program in a chip on your mainboard, all pooters have one, that runs and sets up the basic hardware BEFORE windoze gets a try at starting up

in case someone wants to argue with me, i am a hardware tech, i have a Dip IT for PC and Network support, so i think i kinda know what i am talking about...

have had to go behind many cowboy 'fixers' in the past to sort out their messes...

Hey, Blueythe Blue......hi

Thanks...aha, aha...for the bad news, hahaha

Yes< my crafty daughter prolly tried to get into it.....cause, I KNOW the password, word means a lot to me....just easier to say "I forgot".

I;ve just phoned the techs in the place that I bought computer, the guy said:" Yes, you bring here, we have special TOOL (yeah, right- toolhead)""........they want to charge me 20 bucks for doing it, but, I don't trust those guys. Looong experience with them.

'Pooter' (LOL) is about 3 years old.....

Don't have much disposable money here.....about how much do you figure someone would charge mer for doing it your way?......I wonder if its worth it.

(kid trashes everything of mine- even bloody phone! can't use the 4 button now, good to be rid of her.)

BTW, I am totally ignorant of computers- can't even get screws out of back panel....are stripped...not by me.
o ~sigh~....thanks for the info, tho!~

jean, the $20 fee sounds reasonable, but ask them what 'tool' they will use

and make sure that its a flat fee, in case they try to make it hourly cos of their own inability

Re:Forgot password for 'puter Administra ... Reply to this message
i once knew of a 'kid' like yours jean, we even put special security screws on the computer casing, to keep the little sod out

so he just popped the case panels off with a pry-bar...

was almost up to the point of welding the damned thing shut with a MIG welder

people laugh at the idea of a computer tech with an angle-grinder and MIG-welder in the tool kit

and from the other thread, re dust inside the computer, a bit of carefully applied compressed air does wonders
just dont use it to spin any fans...

noisy fans are mostly Fu--'-d fans, replace em

cant remember who it was that said 'fast, so noisy', a computer is inherently a silent beast, only the cooling fans make noise, and the design does NOTHING to reduce the noise, cos its a pulse-frequency vibration...

GM researched the problem years ago, with regard to Diesel Locomotive radiator fans. i kid you not

Re:Forgot password for 'puter Administra ... Reply to this message
Somebody will have to point Jeanz in the direction of an unzipper...

http://www.rarlab.com/download.htm (the top one on the page)

Isn't there a real dodgy way to crack the admin password by booting it to the repair stage?
From memory it creates a whole new tree for the administrator account with a 000. prefex. It doesn't exactly put things back to normal but it at least gives you full privs and a normal boot.
