Vote-a-matic. Who will you vote for? Reply to this message
Worth a laugh anyway...kind of.

Based on what I selected, my voting order will be;

1. Labor
2. Liberal
3. Greens
4. Democrats
5. Family First

*Disclaimer; I am of the opinion that all the above are useless...and no, I have no idea who I will vote for.

Take it as you will (given the questions, and answers, are rather stupid)

Don't forget to differentiate between your HOR vote and your Senate vote. Preferencing the Libs last in your Senate vote is very important so that they lose control of the Senate.

hey Vicki...

what is your suggestion for votes in the Senate to take away the power from the libs?

Dems then greens then ALP? how far down should we put Libs?

I really dont like the idea of putting FF in front of libs in case they somehow manage to get balance of power.. (even worse than the libs having control)

Good question Marckus. Although, Im also of the opinion that putting the Libs before FF is a good idea as well. They're really the only party that is worse, especially if they hold the balance of power.

"They're really the only party that is worse, especially if they hold the balance of power."

perfect example is Brian Harradine... the man basically ran the country with his vote... if you wanted somthing passed you had to do a deal with Brian...

so one man who represents probably the smallest population in australia (tasmanian wasnt he?) had the power to make or break legislation...

"I might ask Senator Andrew Bartlett this question and come back to you with an answer."

thanks Vivki!! Say his to the Senator for me...

all I really want to do is get the Liberal out of office and perhaps balance up the senate a bit more (and the greens scare me a little)

so yea any help on the best way to re-balance the senate would be appreciated..

I would give you (dems) my lower house vote but I think its better if we work on getting you guys in control of the senate first...

(p.s. where are dems preferences going? do you know yet?)

(p.p.s. does Natasha still have much to do with the party? one of my best election memories was being handed a "how to vote" card by Natasha herself... but Ive had a crush on her for a while now.. lol)

OK, I asked Senator Bartlett what he thought was worse:

1. For the Senate to remain in the control of the Coalition
2. For Family First to hold the balance of power in the Senate

Senator Bartlett reckons (and I agree) that it would be worse if the Coalition retained control of the Senate. As Andrew has worked with Steve Fielding on a number of matters he believes that FF would ensure that the Senate was at least partially returned to a house of review. Probably not as much as if the Democrats held the balance of power of course :-)

As posted elsewhere, I'm not a fan of FF but I do think they get demonised a lot more than they deserve. For example they didn't vote in favour of Workchoices and Fielding reckons he got screwed by the government over the VSU stuff.

On the other hand, they're not exactly friendly to gay people and I think they're somewhat misguided over the baby bonus scheme and the price of petrol.

So.....with all of that in mind, I guess the answer is to preference the Libs last in the Senate.

markus, AB said to say "Hi" back.

"As Andrew has worked with Steve Fielding on a number of matters he believes that FF would ensure that the Senate was at least partially returned to a house of review."

actually I have to agree with you there... probably the "best of the worst"

and I do admire FF for standing up on worstchoices etc..

they do have their "issues" (i.e. I hav gay friends who hate them) but they do what they believe is in the "best interest" of australians...

"markus, AB said to say "Hi" back."

ha ha that gave me the warm fuzzies.. nice to know SOME politicians actually care what we think...

"So.....with all of that in mind, I guess the answer is to preference the Libs last in the Senate."

done.. and just for you and AB (and of course Tash) I will be voting for you in the senate followed by greens then laobr (or labor then greens havent decided)

p.s. Im in Adelaide.. what do you think my chances are of getting a position in the dems lineup next election?

No preference deals have been done yet. And yes, Natasha is still very active and doing what she can in South Australia for the lead Senate Candidate, Ruth Russell.

That is so cool that you were handed a HTV card from her personally!! Did you know that in 2001 she was re-elected with the highest personal vote of any Senator in history? The woman is a living legend.
