Some sympathy Reply to this message
When I said I had no sympathy in relation to those who had over-committed with low interest rates, that was not entirely correct.
There is some, due to the unethical behaviour of some lenders.
The same applies here:

While these people have let greed get in the way of common sense, a great deal of responsibility has to be put on the brokers.

Those who are never satisfied with enough will always be prone to downfall. Serves 'em right.

From the linked article that started this thread:

"......The clients say they did not understand the implications of the more aggressive strategy....."

I'll bet they would have been just fine with understanding if the money had kept on rolling in.

"....Ord Minnett denies these allegations. It says it has yet to receive "a full and proper account of the particulars of the breaches that have been alleged......".

As always, let the buyer beware.

And I was very angry when I heard their cry and these words. Then I consulted with myself, and I rebuked the nobles, and the rulers, and said unto them, Ye exact usury, every one of his brother. And I set a great assembly against them.

Isaiah 24:1-2 Behold, the LORD maketh the earth empty, and maketh it waste, and turneth it upside down, and scattereth abroad the inhabitants thereof. And it shall be, as with the people, so with the priest; as with the servant, so with his master; as with the maid, so with her mistress; as with the buyer, so with the seller; as with the lender, so with the borrower; as with the taker of usury, so with the giver of usury to him.

Re:Some sympathy Reply to this message
I admit to struggling with finding sympathy sometimes. I was listening to the whining and sob story about the interest rate rise from one mother at school who would have spent close to $60 on my sons birthday present? I didn't even spend $60 on his present. The same woman who EVERY time I stop at the corner store on the way home from school for milk or bread or the occasional paddle pop treat, is there letting the kids load up on lollies, soft drink and junk toys. With the headache I was suffering yesterday I came awfully close to telling her so...lol...but I kept my cool and will gripe here instead to let it out.

CODS,
Agreed!

It is a matter of do as I say, not do as I do?

Put another way, there are those in society, including our Pollies and some in Business & Union circles, who convey a poor Moral Hazard/Risk, for the rest of us to follow!

Re:Some sympathy Reply to this message
I personally have no sympathy for people who over-extend.

People make your own choices in life and are responsible for their own actions.

We all have tough times, we all face tough decisions.
Life can be tough. If they borrowed too much - fine, your fault.
I have zero empathy.

Zoo empathy...from the alien Gypsy...

If I believed in reincarnation, Android, I'd predict your next 9 lives would be in the form of a feral feline...

Perhaps a fisherman's feline on an international whaling ship...
