Hawke calls for climate summit
FORMER Prime Minister Bob Hawke has called for a national summit on climate change to sweep away misinformation and ignorance on what he says is a critical challenge facing the world.
Mr Hawke said a summit would give everyone involved in the debate the chance to learn the facts, both on the consequences of climate change and the costs of action and inaction.
"I have always believed that ignorance and prejudice are the enemies of good policy making," Mr Hawke said.
"There is so much lack of understanding and knowledge about the issue, there is a lot of prejudice and fear around, that I believe if you had a summit where all the facts were laid out, you'd get a much better basis for policy making."
While he recognised he had a political bias, Mr Hawke said Opposition Leader Malcolm Turnbull deserved criticism for his emphasis on the costs of taking action on climate change and reducing greenhouse gas emission.
He said others in the debate had also peddled their own interests.
It made it difficult to develop sensible policy when all the media debate did not present a detailed, factual analysis, Mr Hawke said.
"Factual analysis about the threat, factual analysis about the cost of doing something, factual analysis about the cost of not doing anything.
"That's the sort of issues we should be looking at." |

Good idea, but it would just degenerate into another talkfest with every one pushing their own agendas, and not prepared to look at alternative points of view.

I don't think bob brown would be too happy about that, his entire political party exists based on fear, ignorance and propaganda.
Thankfully the greens have all but disappeared from QLD after the debacle of the last state election.

What is the fear about ??
Maybe the big fossil fool corporations are worried that the punters might wake up to the fact that there are other sources of energy which don't cost anything ;) |

And one day you might wakre up to the fact everything costs money, especially anything that is free.
The sunshine might be free, but the infrastructure costs and the the mainteanance and replacement cost are not.
One of the many lies propagated by the greens, is that the world will be a magical utopia under their idealised greenie fluff world.
It won't, it will suck vastly worse than the current system.

Every adult with an above average IQ should be fearful of the greens.
They are more dangerous, than one nation and vastly less intellectual.
At least ON stood by their principles and never sold out thier ideals for some filthy lucre, ie the last QLD election.

So it's stuffed from the start! Given a good idea, you've gone negative straight away? |

Vastly less intellectual???? Who are you kidding?
First premise of that comparison is having an intellect, and one nation didn't get to the starting gate. |

If ON are of zero intellect, then my statement still stands as the greens could easily be considered as negative or anti-intellectual.
Thanks for pointing that our foot
