In Western Australia the local post office will soon become a distributor of gun licences.
The scheme will make it easier to get a firearm licence because applicants will not necessarily have to go to a police station.
Instead, application forms can be downloaded from the internet and presented at the post office.
There are more than 260,000 registered guns in Western Australia; that is about one gun for every nine people in the state.

| In world war 2, the Germans were able to disarm and occupy Holland in about one day, because all the firearm licensing was done through the post offices. I'm not convinced this is such a great idea, some 60 years later. |

The very thought of some of the extremist nutjobs here being able to get their hands on firearms is scary to say the least.
But on the up side (according to stats)they are more likely to shoot themselves before they do any damage to anyone else :o) |

| I find nothing more offensive than the left wing dribble that comes out that if a person is a license firearms holder then he is a killer.People have a right to protect their homes and loved ones with a firearm if they choose.I for one and I know many hundreds who feel the same, are getting very weary and tired of the Utopian garbage that we are suppose to live in with giving rights to those who choose to break into our homes and left wing loonies who tell us how to live.Instead of hiding behind a computer, come up to North Queensland and go into a pub and sprout your garbage,I can tell you that you will be leaving with a bloody nose and a couple of black eyes. |

Brickie4870, I prefer the 2 shot warning rule when it comes to protecting a home. Fire a warning shot through the head; then one through the roof.
I actually applaud this initiative; it's not like the appropriate checks won't be done in the back ground by civilian police staff; it just won't tie up officers out on the front counter dealing with the applications. |

A handgun in the house for personal protection is fine with me.
I had one in the United States and never had the need to use it. It's good to know its there though.
Plus the State of Illinois takes a pragmatic approach on the people's right to defend their property. |

If I was to stike a person on the head the same way I have learnt to strike and break into pieces 7 flat stacked roof tiles with the left hand and 9 with the right hand it would do more damage than a bullet.
If I struck the person in the chest in the same manner, there would be 2 hits in it--me hitting him and him hitting the floor.
Who needs a gun?

In Tasmania that doesn't surprise me Casino.
We took a drive through the forest on the way to Swansea one time and a road sign must have had about 150 bullet holes in it for target practice.
I think there's plenty of guns in Tassie! |

| Good point--I find when 6 or more roof tiles are attacking, its probably because Mr Anti Social, the Burglar, is breaking thru the roof, and its then Im glad I know what to do with him once he gets thru. |

'A handgun in the house for personal protection is fine with me.

Have a look at home invasions (and violent crime in general) in Australia, the UK and the US
The have a look at the availability of guns, in all three
Then tell me that a couple of guns in every house-hold is the way to go

I reckon theres a bit more to it than simply choosing 3 countries and comparing them.
I went to Israel one time, and most people seem to carry guns there.
Imagine, a rock concert, where there were literally hundreds of rifles all leaning up against a wall while people were dancing.
There was no fighting and everybody had a good time. |

What wrong with that they ask for the fire arm if you could not give it they shot you, just think of how many German lives it saved, remember the solders did not make the war they just did their duty, just like us if we are ever called on to do our duty, it is not our right to question why but to just do an die. That is how all wars are fought on both sides of the fence, then after the war its back to business as usual.
Some one said that Japan did not want to invade Australia because when the spies reported that every Australian own a gun.
But into days Australia Australians are to irresponsible to own a gun all so there is no need to own a gun we dont hunt our food, we dont go bush walking, we watch that on TV, farmers well it is tool of the trade, but other then that all guns in the city should be locked up at the local Police station, an only with drawn from their when a person with the right papers needs to use it…. It worked in holland.
Some say Hilter was so far advanced in a lot of his Ideas we are adopting many of them today in society |
