FORMULA One supremo Bernie Ecclestone has described Adolf Hitler as a leader able to "get things done" in a discussion about dictators during an interview with The Times newspaper published today.
Asked to comment on accusations that world motorsport chief Max Mosley behaved like a dictator, Mr Ecclestone went on to speak about Hitler, former Iraq dictator Saddam Hussein - whom he said should have stayed in power - and the Taliban.
"In a lot of ways, terrible to say this I suppose, but apart from the fact that Hitler got taken away and persuaded to do things that I have no idea whether he wanted to do or not, he ... could command a lot of people, able to get things done,'' Mr Ecclestone told The Times.
"In the end he got lost, so he wasn't a very good dictator.''
Mr Ecclestone added: "We did a terrible thing when we supported the idea of getting rid of Saddam Hussein. He was the only one who could control'' Iraq.
"It was the same (with the Taliban in Afghanistan). We move into countries and we have no idea of the culture. The Americans probably thought Bosnia was a town in Miami. There are people starving in Africa and we sit back and do nothing but we get involved in things we should leave alone.''
Mr Ecclestone said Britain's only female prime minister, Margaret Thatcher, was also someone who had "got the job done''.
"She was the one who built this country up slowly. We've let it go down again.'' |

Yeah, lot of people got stuff done... Mussolini, Franco, Stalin, Mao, and Jeff Kennett.
Does not mean what they got done was popular or effective.
Hitler made great breakthroughs in reproductive medicine, but only because he wasnt constrained by ethics or morals. His lab rats were human beings. You want to worship the guy for that, you are slightly less of a person than a modern day lab rat. |

Just shows Bernie has little understanding of history.
The principal thing was he allowed people with brains to organise and plan the future for Germany. He recognised that there were experts who knew more than he did in their fields and let them work in relative peace.
Importantly the GMBH was created.
Education and public works were given a priority rather than Rudd's useless cash hand-outs.
Germany had a can-do attitude which we do not have! |

This makes me so much more happier that $45m of Australian taxpayer money is going towards such a good cause like Bernie!
And here I am thinking only Max Mosley was the Nazi supporter - silly me!
We have the entire Victorian State parliament AND the opposition - cos god forbid the Liberals go against No. 1 Nazi supporter - I mean Grand Prix Supporter - Jeff Kennett!!!!
Roll on those magnificent Nazi propaganda machines next March I say!!!

Why would any western "lefties" have any connection to a murdering dictator?
Dictators can label themselves anything (communist, nationalist, republican, islamist etc ) but only a drop kick would pay any creedence to what a murdering dictator labels himself or the system he claims to use to rule people with an iron fist and terror.
You might find, given enough thought that the majority of people you would label lefties in the western world are conservative moderates who treasure their rights and freedom of speech and who would be lined up against the wall and shot in countries, past and present, you seem to think they have allegences with. So called "lefties" have no more in common with Stalin and Communism than "righties" have with the Taliban and extremist Islam.
But of course that never stops simple name calling when a when a person is to lazy to formulate a decent and intelligent argument :o) |

deemondo - Well Adolf must have done enough when he was voted Times 'Man of the Year' sometime in the thirties.
But then again Time did the same for Joe Stalin soon after.

Im just saying that as a fact Stalin was a Socialist to the level of a communist and he was a brutal dictator thats all, and while lefties assiocate Hitler with the right, despite that Hitler himself was somewhat of socialist himself, if NATIONAL SOCIALISTS mean anything.

If Hitler or Stalin ever did anything sensible, it`d be perfectly legitimate to emulate them. But ------..
Although Hussein did control Iraq in a fashion, people of the free world don`t think it`s a very good idea to murder hundreds of thousands of people in the name of control.
However, globaly, we have some very stiff commercial competion which hasn`t even approached it`s zenith. The majority of such is totally unfettered by compassion of human rights concsiousness. Perhaps we should harden up a little bit? |

FORMULA One commercial rights holder, Bernie Ecclestone, said his comments praising Adolf Hitler were misunderstood as a top Jewish group called for a boycott of the upcoming German Grand Prix.
On Saturday, the 78-year-old Ecclestone caused uproar after telling British newspaper The Times that Hitler was a man who "was able to get things done".
But he told German mass circulation daily Bild: "This was all a huge misunderstanding."
"I did not put Hitler up as a good example, but I simply pointed out that before his terrible crimes, he had acted successfully against unemployment and the economic crisis," Ecclestone said.
He added it was never his intention to insult any community.
"Some of my closest friends are Jewish," he said.
Nevertheless, Germany's top Jewish group called for teams to boycott the upcoming German Grand Prix in protest at his comments.
"No team should work with him any more - a boycott would be more than appropriate," Dieter Graumann, the deputy head of the Central Council of Jews in Germany said.
"The man is either completely stupid or unbelievably malicious - probably even both."
Mr Graumann said a planned meeting between Ecclestone and German politicians on the sidelines of the German Grand Prix must now be cancelled.
"One must not negotiate with fascists. One must condemn them and spurn them," Mr Graumann said.
Ecclestone has also faced several calls to quit after his comments.
The German Grand Prix is due to take place on Sunday.
