Once located a full trace would be possible, they should know things like which mail servers passed it, which user account sent it and who forwarded it and where too. This would include that if it were spoofed the originating IP address and ISP or corporate network involved.

Mr Turnbull has promised in Parliament to fully cooperate with the Federal Police investigation into the fraudulent email but he's also hinted that he may call on parliamentary privilege to hold back some information.
There are reports that the Opposition Leader had a secret meeting with the Treasury official Godwin Grech in the days before Mr Grech spoke about the hoax email at a Senate inquiry.
The email backed up Opposition accusations that the Prime Minister had intervened to help his neighbour, the car dealer John Grant, secure business finance.
Mr Grech is under police investigation and Malcolm Turnbull is refusing to reveal his dealings with the official.
Malcolm Turnbull has refused to comment this morning on reports that he and Senator Eric Abetz met Treasury official Godwin Grech in the lead-up to last Friday's controversial Senate committee hearing.
During the hearing, Mr Grech claimed that there was an email that linked Kevin Rudd to efforts to help the car dealer John Grant.
A spokesman for Mr Turnbull said the fake email was subject to a police investigation and he would not be commenting.
The Special Minister of State Joe Ludwig has called for the Senate privileges committee to examine whether the Treasury official Godwin Grech provided false evidence to the inquiry last Friday and then whether Senator Abetz used the fake email to question Mr Grech.
But the Family First Senator Steve Fielding sided with the Coalition to block the referral to the Privileges Committee. |

The Agriculture Minister, Tony Burke, told how Mr Turnbull, as environment minister before the 2007 election, gave a $10 million grant to a friend and donor for rain-making technology.
"Was the payment against departmental advice? Yes. Was it for a mate? Yes. Was it for a donor? Yes. Did somebody end up receiving that money? Yes," Mr Burke said.
"Every box is ticked according to the Leader of the Opposition's own definition of corruption." |

During the hearing, Mr Grech claimed that there was an email that linked Kevin Rudd to efforts to help the car dealer John Grant.
The opposition leader had used the email as the basis to call on the Prime Minister to resign saying it was proof Kevin Rudd misled parliament.
BC TV news reported police would question Mr Grech about a series of leaks from Treasury in the past year including adverse advice about the FuelWatch scheme and an email exchange between Reserve Bank governor Glenn Stevens and Treasury head Ken Henry about the bank deposit guarantee.
The report said that the ABC had been told by several Liberals that Mr Grech had been supplying information for Mr Turnbull "for some time".
It also said that Mr Grech had been an unofficial contact within Treasury for the Howard government, quoting one Liberal as saying: "He has been sympathetic to us for some time".
In a statement yesterday, the AFP said ''preliminary results of those forensic examinations indicate that the email referred to at the centre of this investigation has been created by a person or persons other than the purported author of the email''.
Federal Opposition Leader Malcolm Turnbull has admitted the OzCar accusations against Prime Minister Kevin Rudd cannot be sustained.
This comes a day after the Australian Federal Police revealed the email at the centre of the Utegate affair was a fake.
The Opposition claimed the email proved Prime Minister Kevin Rudd and his office were giving Ispwich car dealer John Grant special financial treatment in the OzCar scheme .Mr Grant is Mr Rudd's neighbour. |
