"Now how many trillion dollars is the U.S. in debt?"
lkarnd99,
According to the following clock that you kindly donated, it's around US$11.4 Trillion, but I suspect it it a little higher than that, let's not forget the FED.

Russia in Deep Recession: Getting Worse in Q2 2009?
GDP fell 11% y/y in May 2009 and has fallen by 10.2% since January 2009. Investment contraction (-23.1% y/y in May) is the main driver of the deterioration in output though consumption is also weakening. Government spending is now the only contributor to GDP (Citigroup)
Estimates for Russia's whole year GDP continue to be revised downward with international institutions expecting declines of 7%-8% and the Russian government recently projecting negative growth of 8.5% in 2009 (from the negative 6%-8% previously expected). It expects only a 0.1% growth in 2010 |

U.S. Economy: Job Cuts in June Deeper Than Forecast
July 2 (Bloomberg) -- Employers in the U.S. cut more jobs than forecast in June and the unemployment rate rose to the highest in almost 26 years, offering scant evidence the Obama administration’s stimulus package is putting Americans back to work.
Payrolls declined by 467,000 last month following a 322,000 drop in May, according to Labor Department figures released today in Washington. The jobless rate rose to 9.5 percent, the highest since August 1983, from 9.4 percent.

Australia Faces 'Full Brunt' of Global Recession as Exports Dip
July 3 (Bloomberg) -- Australia's economy, which has so far skirted the global recession, may stall after reports showed exports dropped to a 14-month low, bank lending fell and home- building approvals declined by the most since 2002.
"The full brunt of the deepest and most synchronized post- war global recession has yet to fully bear down on Australia," said Su-Lin Ong, Sydney-based senior economist at RBC Capital Markets. "Export income, the terms of trade and business investment are all set to move substantially lower in 2009."
"Arguably there is still some pain ahead, but clearly Australia has been faring much better than other developed economies," Rod Pe ar se, chief executive officer of Sydney-based Boral Ltd., Australia's largest seller of building materials, said in a speech last week. The government's "significant" stimulus will provide support to the building industry, he added.

The European Commission has just canned 20-year-old rules that dictated imperfect fresh produce (carrots with three heads, etc) couldn't be sold. But bendless bananas will still not be |

Banks collapse all the time.
Particularly in a de-regulated market as vast as the United States.
We're not talking about Wells Fargo here, rather smaller, localised banking entities. It's no great shock in a crunch climate some smaller entities fall by the way side.
Certainly not an end of days scenario. |

Here it is.... Out of the mouths of the MSM (CNBC)
Government manipulation of the U.S. Stockmarket, through printing money......
Watch the whole 6 minutes at the link shown, it's enlightening.
Don't believe it's over, and stay away from the markets and equities unless you know what you're doing. When they decide to pull the plug it will be devastating......

And Here It Is On CNBC: Manipulation
Karl Denninger Market Ticker Mon, 29 Jun 2009
http://www.sott.net/articles/show/188025
Gee, you've heard me in various Tickers talk about insider trading and intentional market manipulation.
Now hear it from a trader on the floor. Listen to this clip - 6 minutes, if you're not interested in the whole thing slide in to about 2:00 in.
"This market continues to be propped up by government intervention and manipulation."
No, really?!
By the way, market manipulation is illegal.
Of course when you own the police force you can do whatever you damn well please, right? |

"Banks collapse all the time."
Andrei,
Yes, banks do collapse, but usually infrequently!
In the US, for example, there have been 105 go thru the
FDIC, since 01/01/2001.
Of those -
4 went in 2001
11 went in 2002
3 went in 2003
4 went in 2004
0 went in 2005
0 went in 2006
3 went in 2007
26 went in 2008
52 went, so far, in 2009
Inluded in those recent closures was WAMU, which was a bank of substance.
What could have been icluded, but for government intervention, we MAY never know?
What MAY still be to come, we will find out?
That said, there is a trend and it's NOT HEALTHY! |

Sweden Cuts Deposit Rate to NEGATIVE .25%
There has been a lot of ludicrous recommendations recently to combat deflation by making deposit rates negative. I did not think any central bank would be dumb enough to try it. I thought wrong.
Today, Riksbank, Sweeden's central bank cut the deposit rate to -0.25% effectively charging savers interest on deposited money.

How California's Fiscal Woes Began: A Crisis 30 Years in the Making
With California a day away from issuing IOUs instead of paying its bills, Gov. Schwarzenegger and the legislature remain at odds over how to close a now $26.3 billion deficit. Schwarzenegger on Thursday ordered a third unpaid furlough day for 235,000 state employees. With its $1.7 trillion economy sputtering and 11.5% unemployment surging, California's difficulty in balancing its budget could affect the national recovery. But the Golden State's budget problems are hardly new. The seeds of them were planted more than 30 years ago.

A Commodity Warning Sign
07/01/09 Commodity bulls take note: China has stopped stockpiling nonferrous metals. According to Yu Dongming of China's National Development and Reform Commission, over the last quarter, China has accumulated 235,000 tons of copper, 590,000 tons of aluminum, 159,000 tons of zinc and 5,000 tons of titanium. Because of this commodity grab, "nonferrous metals prices have rebounded," he said. "Given these circumstances, we don't expect the state will continue to build its reserves."

An Economy Bigger than Russia, Brazil, Canada, India or Spain Is About to Default
http://www.washingtonsblog.com/2009/07/economy-big ger-than-russia-brazil.html
An economy bigger than Russia, Brazil, Canada, India or Spain is in imminent risk of defaulting on its debts.
Which nation am I talking about?
Not a country . . . but the state of California.
California's GDP was around $1.812 trillion in 2007.
According to the International Monetary Fund, that is bigger than the 2008 GDP of every country in the world except the US, Japan, China, Germany, France, UK and Italy.
Given that California has more people than any other state in the US, and some of the largest agricultural, manufacturing, high-tech and defense sectors in the nation, you would think that helping California would be important.
And yet - instead of helping California - the federal government is giving aid to Goldman Sachs, JP Morgan and the other financial giants who helped to cause the financial crisis, and to Israel and other foreign countries.
Does that make any sense?
Note: Depending on which source is cited (CIA World Factbook, World Bank, or IMF), California ranks somewhere between 7th and 10th in world GDP.
Technically, California's economic measure is not GDP, as that is a national measure. The correct term is "Gross State Product". |
