| Indeed, the power is shifting - but, when the unlevel playing field created by the West starts to tip in favour of the East, I expect that Westerners will be even more likely to engage in protectionism - and perhaps collude... |

"it will simply shift from Europe & the US to Asia"
slr,
Not unless, there is a solution to one of those other specific issues, where we can not agree!
And, I see nothing on the horizon, nor under the ground, that suggests a solution to,
Peak Oil! |

Peak Oil is a theory
replace the word "Oil" with the name of any other resource and you would have another theory
whether its Peak OIL or Peak Quandongs...it's a theory
every resource in the world is finite
even the Sun has a finite life
humans have transitioned from one source of of energy to another for centuries now
how many trees did we cut down world wide for firewood until we discovered coal and oil?
as such we will continue to transition
so to cast shadows about Peak Oil to scare the kids is mischievous
I don't know if you are doing this because you can't discern a theory from facts or you are simply trying to spread fear |

thy,
Indeed, there is a powershift game, underway!
It is for great stakes and is not being played by the Marquess of Queensberry rules. |

lets see
we suggest nuclear power and the likes of nemesis comes out with war stories of yesteryears to scare the feeble minded in here
the best story she can come up with was back in 1986
facts are there are systems and processes in place that prevents accidents
in the last 20 years I she can't produce evidence of a nuclear accident with a CDP of 1

slr,
The "kids" won't listen to you or me, unless their backs are against the wall and there are no other options, a bit like humanity in general.
That said, the ramifications of Peak Oil are very diffrent to Peak Qandongs, so let's not float that one.
However, you are right, we (humanity) have been around for quite some time, although not in geological terms and we have seen much water flow under the bridge.
But, the massive changes of the last two hundred years have been enabled by Oil and a once in history population explosion.
Both Oil & Populations, have now, effectively, Peaked!
Unless we come to grips with reality, on a global scale, quickly, then fear may well be the lesser of our concerns. |

the ramification of Peak Sun is even more catastrophic than Peak Oil
so why aren't we doing something about it?

by whose account?
researchers?
lets look at Peak Oil.....how do they know it's the peak?
because OPEC told them?...when its membership doesn't even have 50% of the world producers?
why would Russia come out and say we have plenty supply of oil and finding more reserves everyday
what happens to price when supply is in abundance?...it drops
why would the oil producing companies want that?
so those who are spreading the Peak Oil message are actually lining the pockets of the Oil Companies even more

can I use this same phrase every time you raise Peak Oil?
the key here is to view each Peak theory in context
I have already provided the nuclear facts but you guys continue to ignore it
I raised the point that vitrification was about turn the waste to solid glass
I know ms.cute was reading about it and she understood how that works
but others continue to say that solid Pyrex glass leaks and contaminate the area
how does that work....the waste is melted into the Pyrex glass and allowed to cool and solidify which is stored in a stainless steel container
how does solid glass leak from the container?

You are so right.... The bogeyman of peak oil has been used to maintain control over the price....
This subject has been discussed at great length in the past with the following conclusions..
1. Big Oil has found massive oil deposits that far exceed the worlds current reserves and capped them.
2. Russia has proved by its deep drilling techniques that oil is not a fossil derived product but is constantly manufactured within the earths core, seeping to the surface, and refilling previously dry wells.
3. Speculators are hoarding oil and storing it all around the world by various methods including anchored super tankers, and currently trying to manipulate the oil price back up to $200 barrel......
Unfortunately the world is now aware of the fraud carried out through market speculation in oil over the past 18 months, and with the economic crisis they will find it very hard to pull that trick off again..
That said.. I believe the sooner the world moves away from oil dependance and develops alternate renewable energy, the sooner we can get rid of the fraud and corruption within the industry.. |

Harvard's Feldstein Sees Risk of 'Double-Dip' Recession in U.S.
July 21 (Bloomberg)
The U.S. recession may not be coming to an end and there is a risk the economy may experience a "double-dip" contraction, said Martin Feldstein, a professor of economics at Harvard University.
"There is a real danger this is going to be a double dip and that after six months or so we'll have some more bad news," Feldstein, the former head of the National Bureau of Economic Research and Reagan administration adviser, said today in an interview on Bloomberg Television. "We could slide down again in the fourth quarter."
He said there "are a number of technical ways" that the Fed can contain inflation and that it would be politically difficult to increase borrowing costs at a time of high unemployment, Feldstein said.

Just for you, Andrei!
Feldstein may not be as well "educated" as you and his opinion is no doubt not shared by you & others and I would also not agree with everything he says, but the information may be of use, to some? |

It is still a democracy, you may say &/or do, what you want, so long as it does no physical or mental harm, to others!

slr,
See what I mean!
Let's not view quandong's again, please?
Or, a myriad of other very useful information (I'm sure), which in the scheme of things, just don't cut it, with the major influencing factors.
What are the factors that really influence events, in modern history, not in any particular order -
Power (the struggle to maintain it & gain it)
Greed (eternal)
Oil (the enabler of modern miracles)
Population (Growth & Aging)
And, I'm sure, there are a few others, about wich I will be reminded. |
