Thee key March quarter consumer price inflation figures has come in at an annual rate of 4.2%. It was 3% for the final three months of 2007.
So how touching it was, to see Wayne Swan on TV this evening expressing how he felt the pain of working families, what with all the rising costs. He had nothing to say about what he had done as Treasurer to combat the problem.
But heck... it's ok. It's not this government's fault that prices keep going up. What Swan is effectively saying is that he has been, and still is, powerless to do anything about rising prices and interest rates.
That's funny... so why were Swan and Rudd telling us in 2007 that Howard and Costello were at fault for not keeping inflation down?
How could Howard and Costello be at fault in 2007, but now that things are now much worse, it is suddenly not the fault of today's Prime Minister and Treasurer?
Australia... wake up! You have been conned! |

in the old days supermarket goods had price stickers on them...and you knew when you bought a jar of vegemite, if the price had gone up in that short time....
now I find it not so easy to watch prices...and keep track of them....I just know suddenly I cant afford that anymore.....or the special price...isnt so special after all...
so what is pushing inflation up so fast?....it cant just be the price of petrol........which no one in this country seems to have any control over...........I understand why petrol would affect everyday things.....but its happening all the time now.....something goes on special....when the special is over the price has gone up...
Havent heard of wage increases......so what is making our basics so expensive............[ple ase excuse my ignorance] |

Food prices are rising rapidly because of the worldwide shortage of rice, wheat and barley (probably other essentials as well). A lot of farmers are opting to grow sugarcane because they get a better price with the shortage of oil etc.
It's a spin off effect, each controls the other.
I even noticed that Aldi prices have risen considerably, and that was the cheapest store in town. |

all the whingeing about inflation and how hard we are doing it..how about the millions in the world..who now can'afford food! In the streets of Haiti people rioted..because they couldn't afford to eat as the price of rice was too high!....in mexico the govt had to stepin and subsidise corn as the price of corn tortillas had gone up so much(because corn is being used for bio-fuel) that the women of mexico city protested that they could no longer afford their basic food!.......there is a world wide trend of increasing prices in our so called basics!
the problem for the us is that howard made a statement that average austalians had never had it so good...6 mths later......maybe not so rosy a future as we were led to believe! |

As the Rudd Government has not delivered a budget yet...what would have been any different if Howard and Costello were in power...there is nothing they could have done to change the March quarter consumer price inflation figures...it was Howard and Costello's policies that created the March result!!!

| come on philperth this old cliche about Iraq and oil is a bit worn now. There is more oil coming out of Iraq now than there was under Saddaam Hussein, due to to the removing of the sanctions, The world demographics have changed and well you know it, unless you do not watch the tv news or read the papers. China and India are sucking in as much as they can, to raise their productivity and living standards and I don't blame them. For years western style countries have had it too good and their own way and now the boot is on the other foot we don't like it one bit. This is how they have had to do it for years and we sat back and helped keep them there. Australia is a greedy self centered country like most westernised countries and a bit of bad medicine might do us the world of good as we strive to achieve other goals and aspirations and take a different path. |

you obviously mussed out on the good times by the look of it , I managed to buy my own house in inner Melb witch has risen over 100% in 11 years + an investment property 7 years ago in Northcote which has risen 70+% since, under Keating's 17% & our now rising rates under Rudd all I can say is suffer , you missed the boat & will find it harder now under a labor regime.. |
