Nurses at a central NSW hospital will consider industrial action if major problems at the facility are not addressed "promptly", their union says.

A senior planning official in the region has been stood down after a number of design faults were identified at the new $98 million Bathurst Base Hospital.

The problems, including undersized operating theatres and intensive care wards and sheer drops accessible from the proposed mental health unit, were revealed earlier this month.

The NSW Nurses Association (NSWNA) said on Monday officials conducted an occupational health and safety inspection of the hospital last week and the results would be handed to former state and federal MP Ian Sinclair.

NSW Health Minister Reba Meagher has appointed Mr Sinclair as an administrator to help to identify and fix design issues at the hospital.

NSWNA assistant general secretary Judith Kiejda said there were also heavy nursing work *** at the facility, with some nurses working more than 100 hours last fortnight.

"It is just unbelievable that a brand new facility can have so many occupational health and safety problems," she said in a statement.

"Nurses expect that these issues, including the heavy work *** , will be addressed promptly and properly.

"If the problems are not fixed then Bathurst nurses will meet in the next few weeks to consider what action to take to get them fixed."

Does this surprise you macca - it is NSW and it is a labor government. This government seems to be more interested in covering their backsides, than in the health of the citizens and those looking after them.

Re:Another NSW health issue Reply to this message
what you can say macca, the list goes on and on and on, this labour government in NSW is the worst ever government in history of australia, and the most frightening part is that people have died in these hospitals because of adminstration bungles and hospital admistrations is labour's responsiblity, there are alot of horror stories from many hospitals in my state

and you know those NSW labour voters dont care, thats more frightening, that would still return this government to power, even if african dictator robert mugabe was its leader, labour would still return, thats how much tolerance these labour voters have for stupidity

Just watched Australian Story - about Nicole Cornes - the people do what the MEDIA tell them to. I have believed this for many years, and it has certainly been borne out lately.

There is that - tunnel vision - runs in families - meantime the rest of us suffer. With luck they'll (The NSW Govt.) all finish up in the clink and someone decent might replace them.

Truer words never spoken. I watched most of it too. And then I read the article summary in Top Stories. I'm certain they didn't watch the same show I did, they are still trying to spin her in the same mold.

Re:Another NSW health issue Reply to this message
Nothing surprises me in NSW anymore.
The years of Labor have been punctuated with scandal & mis-management. I cant remember the last time anything was done right. Health a joke, transport worse, planning is a shambles & these are only Sydney issues.
If you live out of Sydney you don't even get a mention.
Whats the power sale for, the benefit of the whole state NO its to try yet again to fix Sydney transport.
And yes all the liberal supporters will be on this thread mocking the people of NSW for voting them back in but it cannot be denied that faced between a choice of the devil you know & one you don't you'll go for the 1 you know 99% of the time.
If the liberals in NSW didn't try & follow the feds & get rid of a centre candidate in Brogdon for a right wing autocrate in Debnham they would now hold a majority bigger than Rudd.So instead of blaming voters why not take a long hard look & get back to traditional liberal ideals.
The above paragraph is by no means meant to excuse the labor party nothing can do that but is meant to try & explain in a small way the unexplainable

Couldn't agree more Styder mud sticks & any fed labor minister/backbencher should be purged from the party for safety sake. I would if I was Rudd, if he thought Burke was bad wait till Iemma starts to bite.

how can the state liberal party can be any worse than this mob, i cant imagine any party worse than they are

but the people of NSW who voted labour deserve to be mocked, and they deserve the bad government they elected, they knew before the last election that this labour government was good for nothing, but they didnt wanna change

Re:Another NSW health issue Reply to this message
What do you expect from NSW Health, especially when you have such an obviously questionable person in Reba Meagher as Health Minister. Since going into politics everything she has been involved in has been disastrous and questions have hung over her, such as the debacle in relation to a shopping centre near Liverpool when she was planning minister. For those of you who don't recall it was in relation to a shopping complex which was fully operational and was fully tenanted with all the leaseholders having large financial stakes in the operation. The the large Westfield corporation who has a shopping complex just a couple of km's away from it tried everything to have it closed down and unfortunately for those stakeholders, and due to MZZZZZZ Meagher's involvement, the complex was closed and the stakeholders lost the lot.

I would like to know what this B$%^h is holding over that imbecile NSW Premier to enable her to continue having high profile portfolios. Now we find out that questions have been raised about her relationship with a former Woollongong Councillor now before the ICAC corruption inquiry. When it comes to healthcare in NSW, thank god for private health insurance because whilst ever labor is in power in NSW and especially wilst Meagher is the State Health Minister, things will only get worse. Whatever happened to a vote of no confidence ??????

Re:Another NSW health issue Reply to this message
Coalition state oppositions have been entrenced in turmoil for years on end. The solution for them is to merge; form one party, cast the extremists into political oblivion on their own and get back to running thier states as effectively as they've done in the past.

The media will take the labor state governments to task in upcoming state elections and hopefully smash them to pieces.

Listen up state Liberal Govts; get your sh_it together, stop the infighting and simply turn up to take victory.

Re:Another NSW health issue Reply to this message
dsmithy70 remember in victoria i think in the early 90s, when victoria went broke from the labour governments of cain/kirner, when the states financial institutions such as the state bank of victoria collapsed, and people lost there money because of it,
when jeff kennet became premier, he helped turned around the states financial woes, through measures that commentators say had high social costs, and yet the economic benefits are indisputable,

you see the liberals can turn things around if they were given half a chance, i really believe that

Re:Another NSW health issue Reply to this message
Pretty simple bloody reason for that and the chardie socialists will malign me for saying it; but the reason liberal governments are successful; they run the show like a business. Put a Kerry Packer in charge of the country and see where we end up in 20years; Gold Paved streets.

"Nurses at a central NSW hospital will consider industrial action if major problems at the facility are not addressed "promptly", their union says."....
--------------
And so they should.

But what's going on; are certain people here supporting union backed industrial action??

Just don't come back later and try to push your barrow by saying that the unions are taking over.

Peter I always find the debates between you & the Liberal followers interesting & informative.
In NSW's case no-one can be blamed for supporting the unions not even the most rabid union hater & it shouldn't be held against them at a later date on a different topic.
NSW is a whole different universe.
