A South Korean woman is celebrating after passing the written exam for a driving licence - on her 950th attempt.
After four years of trying, 68-year-old Cha Sa-soon finally managed to secure the 60 out of 100 points needed to pass the test.
The grandmother has spent more than 5m won ($US 4,200) on application fees for the test.
Now Mrs Cha, who lives in Jeonju, 130 miles (210km) south of Seoul, must pass the practical test to get on the road.
'Don't give up'
According to the Korean Driver's Licence Agency, the 50-minute written test consists of 50 multiple-choice questions on road regulations and car maintenance.
Mrs Cha had been trying to pass it since 13 April 2005, the Korea Times reported.
She wanted a licence so that she could use a vehicle to sell vegetables and other goods, the newspaper said.
And her determination to pass the test has made her well-known at the Jeonju centre.
"She is really famous here. Not only agency employees but even some test-takers know her. Her challenging spirit is really amazing," one official was quoted as saying.
Speaking in February - after her 775th failure - Mrs Cha had appeared undaunted.
"I believe you can achieve your goal if you persistently pursue it," she told Reuters news agency.
"So don't give up your dream, like me. Be strong and do your best."

| Many people were never meant to drive, why not just take the hint? |

What I can't understand is why she didn't look in a packet of rice. Most of the short-sighted slope-headed fraternity in Brisbane acquired their licence that way. The state government even abolished eye tests so that they weren't discriminating against visually challenged (read 'blind as a bat') licence applicants. |

So, its taken her 4 years and 950 attempts to pass the written test.
Anyone want to start taking bets on how long it will take her to actually get her licence? lol. |

All my parents had to do to acquire their licences back in the seventies all they had to do was drive a copper around the block. I'll wager it was similar to many other adults over 40 in Australia. So what's your point about linking driving skills with testing skills/difficulty? |

I actually had 'proper' tests for each licence category. Nevertheless it was basically a matter o driving around the block during daytime without hitting anything. In short, a total farce.
So what's your point about linking driving skills with testing skills/difficulty?
Most sheeple don't have driving skills, neither do the testing monkeys. No band-aid remedy will do anything to solve the road toll. |

I remember my driving test real well on the Mornington Peninsula thirty odd years ago, drove the cop half a mile down the road to the corner shop, he got out and went and got a packet if cigs, he came back, told me to do a u-turn and we went back to the cop shop, all done.
Then he took 7 points off me for not indicating changing lanes which didn't happen because there was only one lane but he said it looks more real if it's not perfect. 93 out of a hundred and the minimum pass was 70
Those were the days |

| I did a short stint as a driver instructor and cannot recall one youngster who didn't fail their first test. Reason was always failure to observe speed limits. Doesn't appear to matter how often these clowns are told, they never listen. |

Ahhhh I see you didnt bother to read the links. That is explained too. Just think how much less foolish you'd look if you bothered to try and learn or understand occasionally. |

| Bast I would never apologise to you. You are at best a sad excuse for a man. Foul, bigoted, anti-semitic, sexist and the list goes on. The evidence you provide is always selective and from one of the sites you trawl in an attempt to find views which match your own narrow views. I would prefer travelling with pretty much anyone than a thug who abuses other drivers and (says) he damages their cars when they upset him. You are just an arrogant road raging pig bast. |
