Seventy one-year-old Richard Roden has become the oldest man in Britain to father twins after his 25-year-old wife Lisa gave birth to daughters, Emily and Ruby.
Ex-welder Roden is already a father to ten children from his two previous marriages.
Heâs now enjoying fatherhood again and also getting used to explaining visitors that he is actually the father of the newborns and not their grandpa as they think.
âItâs easier this time around as Iâve had plenty of practice with children,â the Sun quoted him as saying.
He added: âWe are going to try for a boy in two yearsâ time.
âIâve only got three lads, so Iâd like another son.â |

Lisa added: âPeople always stop Richard when heâs out walking the twins in their buggy. They say to him that he must be a really proud granddad.
âHe corrects them and says heâs their dad, but most people donât believe him.
âThe twins are proof of our love â a love that has defied the 46-year age gap and the gossips.â
The pair met in 2005 when Richard stopped his car during a storm to offer Lisa a lift and she accepted when he told her he studied at the same college.
Richard â born in March 1938 â is 12 years older than Lisaâs 59-year-old dad Colin Smith. But Colin and his wife have given their blessing to the couple.
Ex-welder Richard said: âMy first impression of her was her lovely, big blue eyes. I never thought weâd end up together because of my age. âBut we are just like any other couple in love.
âI know Iâm 71 and I havenât made a will yet, but everything Iâve got will go to Lisa and the children. Iâm so proud of the twins. They are absolutely gorgeous. And Iâm so proud of Lisa too. |

Teesside Magistrates' Court, in Middlesbrough, heard Chamberlin, of Brendon Crescent, Billingham, has previous sex-related convictions.
These include indecent exposure in 1970, two convictions for indecent assault on a female under 16, indecent exposure in 1987, gross indecency on a male under 18 and indecent assault on a male under 16.
Alex Bousfield, mitigating, described his latest offence on October 16 as "quite unique" and carried out in the "spur of the moment" when Chamberlin went out for a walk. He said Chamberlin lives with his 74-year-old sister and he was concerned he would be kicked out following publicity of the offence

I feel for the new born, as when they are around 10 -18 or even 25 their father will be too old to join them running around in the park, or go scuba diving, rock climbing.
Instead the children will have to try and stay awake and be quiet at the bingo hall or lawn bowls. |

I was 32 years older than my wife who died in 2000. Back then I was 53 and fit as a scrub bull. I've had 2 children since.
Don't see age as any sort of problem when it comes to relationships. As long as two people like each other and enjoy each other's company, what's it got to do with anyone else.
I understand why older blokes with lots of dough (which unfortunately does not describe me) would pick a young woman for their partner. That has been the case throughout history because that is the way we evolved. You can't change that.
At the same time I understand why a young woman would seek out a much older man for her future security, and as long as they get along well together all's good, both are satisfied.
However I must say I have nothing but admiration for men/women who have remained with their original partners all their lives, just like my brother has. Clearly all their needs are being met for that to happen, so again, all's good.
As for having kids at 71, that's another story, however there are two ways to look at it.
Obviously the bloke won't be around to see the kids grow up, nor will he be able to interact physically with them very much, even as children. Which is a bit sad. At 62 I can still play footy etc with my young'uns, and have a bit of rough and tumble, but I don't know whether I'll be doing it when I'm over 70 very much.
Worst case is she'll become a single mother (widow) when he dies, however what's new about single mothers, except in this case she will have been be looked after by her deceased husband. |
