Violet Flora Evans, 53, was charged with murder after a baby’s severed torso was found cut in half in a Mooroobool driveway.
In Cairns Magistrates' Court this morning, forensic biologist Samantha Cave said a DNA examination of a number of suspects in the case had confirmed "a level of relatedness" between the baby and three female family members – Ms Evans, her mother and her daughter, who was 15 at the time of the boy’s birth.
But it had not been possible to tell which of the three women was the baby's mother, she said.
The committal hearing continues.
