Keep getting these SHOCK HORROR windows appearing....scares the living daylights out of one! and perhaps reactions are to click for a download......supposedly no need to shutdown, just click the red x at the top right and say...
.........BEGONE YOU FARKERS!!!!!
"Up to 43 million people could have given their bank details to cyber criminals after being duped by fake anti-virus software online, a web security firm has found.
Figures published by Symantec suggest 93 per cent of the people scammed downloaded the rogue programs by choice after being tricked into believing it was legitimate.
The company estimated that some cyber criminals are earning millions of dollars a year from the ruse.
Web users fall prey to the scam when they click on links, pop-ups or flashing adverts warning them their computer is infected.
The fake program then appears to run a virus check which tells the user their PC is infected and asks them to pay for it to be cleaned up.
But downloading the software can give criminals access to bank details and computer files.
Symantec found 250 rogue programs were downloaded 43 million times in the 12 months to July 2009." |

>>>Mine was on Firefox......<<<
Click on Tools/Add ons
Then click 'Get Add ons'
Search for 'Ad blocker' (mine is version 0.6.5) and install it. I rarely get popups now, it seems to stop most scripts. |

no, we need fakers in this world to help people feel more real.
the only catch is, in direct proportion "real" doesn't trust a soul. |

If you HAVE Symantec (which is part of Norton) you don't have to pay attention to stuff that pops up like that (which it should not)...
and anyone who does pay attention to stuff like that is a dumber computer dummy than myself, and THATS PRETTY DUMB.
Like, WHO would be stupid enough to fall for that, I mean, really! Apparently there are 43 million really stupid people out there....gawwd, I gotta loirn me how to woik the cyberstuff. |

jessy "no, we need fakers in this world to help people feel more real.

are you referring to life in general here Jess?
seems so....anything that is produced to safeguard 'invasion or deception' has a section of society that finds a way around it, hence forcing more inventive thinking of further safeguards...goes on and on forever?
But people online trying to sell their product through deception - i.e. convincing the owner a potential threat is there and only by buying their product can their computer be safe...is the subject here...lol.
Awareness and knowledge is essential but just like buying a car one cannot know everything and a mechanic has to be trusted?
These programs that jump onto your screen instilling fear of invasion....with red lights flashing and warnings of danger..work on the vulnerability of the user and the shock element of rect now or it is too late!
Others now imitate your mail messages and are seemingly legally allowed on sites such as Facebook, flashing constantly that you have a message when infact once you click on the button you have to shutdown your computer to be rid of it.....
Agree Azsure....owners should KNOW....hence this thread!
The methods keep changing? |

If it wasn't such a huge piece of bloatware and such a resource hog, not to mention it's own little piece of spyware returning all it's own information back to headquarters, more people might use it.
As it stands it sits with Microsoft on the table as one of the great malware/bloatware companies of the century, continually sucking money out of the poor unsuspecting consumer. |

| Never reveal your bank details to anyone but your own bank on it's own web site |
