Well, it seems that you don't know very much about how the system works. What was that you said?. No one forces anyone to do work for the dole?. Well you got that wrong. I was told I had to work for the dole. Secondly for your information, if a person that is on a work for the dole, doesn't turn up, what do you think happens to that person. They are breached. In other words, they will have part of their benefit cut. Not much of a choice then, is it?.

Yes, WFD is a kind of mutual obligation thing.

m.tivey, that is such a ridiculous statement about punishment. I used to work in that organisation and you wld be surprised how many clients actually requested WFD..and got jobs as a result.

You don't get a choice. If they tell you you are on a work for the dole, you are on a work for the dole.

I don't mind the work for the dole program as such, but for goodness sake, give them some decent jobs, like supreme court judge or chief of police.

Sorry, those are already taken by 'system' folk. The hoi polloi are far too impartial to be considered.

I'm all for work for the dole, provided politicians work for their pensions after they retire from politics.

If they are happy to dig ditches, plant trees, make roads, do meals on wheels, whatever, for as long as they are getting money from the public purse, then bring on work for the dole.

Why should it be one sided after all? I mean, do politicians *really* do any work *for* the Australian people? Might as well get something out of them after they retire from swindling us.

Of Course they should unless Disabled , sorry but the long suffering over taxed payers are paying for them ... I have never to this day heard a decent reason why able bodied people on the dole can't contribute..

There are much easier ways of saving tax dollars.

Don't give politicians pensions until they are at retirement age, and not until they are no longer earning money from any other source. Make *our* taxpayer funded indexed pension, with all the perks that go with it, means tested.

These pollies seem to do very well for themselves after politics, why do they need our extra money on top? Bugger 'em!

Funny how "Work for the Dole" has created anotehr avenue for taxpayers to be fleeced.

Many a sinister wag has joined "work for the dole" only to feign an injury and go on worker's compensation.

Take that taxpayers

And why not? They follow the lead of their politicians.

Who can forget that fat slug who fell off the Parliamentary push bike that he was told he was not permitted to ride - Leo McLeay (Speaker of The House at the time) - sprained his wrist and got over $100K in compo from the taxpayer.

Then there was Senator Brown (who was Minister for Sport and Recreation at the time) who's wife scalded her poor delicate hand while making a cup of tea in his Suite at Parly House, sued the taxpayer and got around $25k.

What's good for the goose...

For your further information. Not that it is any of your business, I have been unemployed several times, for short periods of time, and for long periods of times, without claiming any unemployment benefit. You smart ass.

Well I think if unemployed people want to work for the dole, then for those that want let them. Although I don't think it should be compulsory. I also think that you will find, that the majority, if given a choice would not want to do it.

I do not believe that anyone should work for the dole, As it sets a dangerous precedent in acceptable pay rates for ALL low income workers ! As it most definitely will !
