Several hospitals now have birthing centres attached where the atmosphere is more like home (rather than a hospital ward implying illness)... but with quick access to the medical services...
Problems do occur there between the doctors and the midwives apparently but what else is new with human nature eh:)
The govt decision to only allow Medicare access to homebirthing when the medical profession has a part to play throughout the 9 months....seems a safe guard Ausgal...
Peer pressure may influence women to choose homebirth....although the numbers that do choose it are relatively small....but it should definitely be a decision of the mother (and partner) to be, just as any woman giving birth needs to seriously contemplate her health, diet and where and how she wishes to birth.... |
