""First you said, regarding how this type of crime could be prevented: "Wouldn't have a clue. No one has ever been able to prevent it since the beginning of time, as far as I know." and then you said "I know why the violence happens, and I have posted why many times here..""
I reiterate, no one has ever come up with a way to stop pedophilia, regardless of the sex of the perpetrator, or the sex of the victim. I find it an absurd question to ask, and one which is disingenuous. Hence my curt reply.
That takes care of pedophilia in mainstream OZ.
Violence in Ab communities is a different story, it has to do with culture, and if I go into it at any length here my post will be deleted. PC, you see.
""Do you think that a person's childhood experiences have any effect on the type of person the child becomes?""
Do you think I am a psychiatrist?
Ok, yes I do. I would have thought that that was obvious.
""When you are rude and bullying in your responses, it indicates that you have a weak argument.""
And which argument is that? I relate my experiences and knowledge of black, and part black people, after 40 odd years of living it.
There are people here who do not want me to put facts on the table, it doesn't suit their 'sanitised' view of the subject. I get them every time, and I can usually pick them pretty quickly.
I have no time at all for them because facts will not change their views, ignorant as they may be.
Perhaps you are not one of them, but someone who asks questions a little differently to most.
If that is correct and I have offended you I apologise for being brusque.
If you are a new poster here you may not be aware that I have been asked similar questions by many over the last couple of years, and as soon as I begin explaining, bang, post deleted. It does get a tad predictable, and tiring. |

Hi Dallone
In your response, you have not taken into account your own statement:"the only way a private citizen can stop/reduce the violence is by bringing into the public domain, and forcing the authorities to take action..."
Anyway - regarding facts and opinions:
The facts are (1)the crime occurred, and (2), if correct, your account of the perpetrator's background.
The rest - your comments about the cause of the crime and the ways it could be prevented - are your opinions. You may be sure you are right, but I do not think you can prove that the only way paedophilia can be prevented/reduced is by publicising the crime after it occurs. I'm not sure what you mean about forcing the authorities to take action - the report you posted states that the man was charged, prosecuted and convicted.
If you want more action than there has been already, can you state what action you want taken as a result of publicity? |

Freo, you said;

~~
I never said or implied anything of the sort.
I said that pedophilia cannot be stopped as far as I know, in mainstream OZ. I stand by that remark. Furthermore, anyone who thinks differently is a fool.
And I never offered an opinion as to how it could be prevented/reduced.
You are confusing two different subjects here.
My posts on publicising violence in Ab communities are a totally different matter, and by the way, one which has recently seen NT judges confirm it, as a way of reducing it, in their sentencing remarks.
And I reiterate once again, I started this thread because the man became a media sensation around OZ when he pretended he could put Ab curses on white people. As I have explained to you previously. He has now shown himself to be more than just a publicity seeking fool.
Frankly I cannot understand your continued interest in his behaviour.
And Freo, in case you have not noticed, these are News message Boards. They are for people to discuss stories in the news media.
I hope you will take more notice of what I actually say from now on. I am through apologising for others mistakes. |

Hi Dallone
Just to clarify then:
You consider violence in the NT can be stopped/reduced by increasing publicity which then leads to judges imposing longer custodial sentences? However, this is not the topic of this thread, so let us leave this for another thread.
You don't know of any way paedophilia can be prevented in mainstream Australia?
Do you have any thoughts on how it could be prevented in aboriginal communities (by "communities", I mean to include people who identify as aboriginal and who socialise substantially with other people who identify as aboriginal).
And in response to: "Frankly I cannot understand your continued interest in his behaviour. And Freo, in case you have not noticed, these are News message Boards. They are for people to discuss stories in the news media. I hope you will take more notice of what I actually say from now on. I am through apologising for others mistakes." - You are right, these boards are for people to engage in discussion, for them to exchange opinions.
I have been posting on the boards for only a short time, and so far hope I am able to canvass many topics, stay on topic, listen to other people's opinions, and make make a polite and contructive contribution without undermining the other person. So please don't worry about whether I have a problem with "a continued interest" in a subject or whether I cannot comply with the intent or standards of this forum. |

Violence will never ever be stopped completely, in any culture in the world, however in cultures which are only a generation or two removed from the stone age, and in which many violent aspects still remain, eg, payback spearing, the right to bash and stab wives etc, then much more pressure needs to be brought to bear to educate these people as to the laws of the land in 2009.
And I did not say increasing publicity leads judges to impose longer sentences.
What needs to be done is Ab in communities need to be educated to the law. This is the job Ab leaders need to do, but don't, often because they are entrenched in the violence themselves.
Ab men especially need to understand that women and children have EXACTLY the same rights as themselves.
That is what publicity can do, make people aware of the problems, and then encourage the finding of solutions.
One solution would be to stop Ab being allowed to drink, just as they weren't allowed to do so in the past. But of course that is not politically correct, in any shape or form. Although the Federal intervention has managed to do just that, and for exactly the same reasons. And many are unhappy about that.
If you want a serious discussion do not misunderstand others posts, or, claim they said this or that when they didn't. Read carefully. Nothing pisses off people more than posters who continually misrepresent posts.
And crikey, there are a lot of new posters about taking an interest in NT affairs. |

Freo, from the same thread, in case you missed it.
And these telling remarks from a Supreme Court judge.
Sentencing remarks to a 27 year old Arrernte man in Alice Springs Supreme Court, 7-10-09.
You have a problem with violence and anger and obviously that problem comes to the surface when you drink alcohol. You also have a problem with committing crimes of violence against women.
What should be understood is that alcohol is not the cause of the violence. Somewhere deep inside you there is an anger which is unleashed by the alcohol, but the alcohol is not the cause.
In you and others like you there is obviously something deep inside you which leads you to an attitude that you are entitled to be violent to women when they make you angry.
It is the attitude that is the cause and that is the attitude that must change among Aboriginal men, particularly men in Aboriginal communities.
It is a crime of great disturbance to our wider community and to the courts, that the courts are constantly dealing with these types of offences, and it almost prompts the court to ask what is going on in the mind of Aboriginal men like you. |

So Freo, do you understand what the judge is saying in the post below?
Perhaps you could give a brief summary to enlighten those who may have missed the point. |
