Collingwood curser jailed for rape
October 17th, 2009
A MAN famous for cursing Collingwood Football Club in 1993 has been sentenced to eight years in prison for twice raping a teenage boy.
John Morris Kelly, 62, was found guilty by a jury of maintaining sexual relationship with a child under 16.
In sentencing, Justice Stephen Southwood said Kelly, also known as John Kelly Country, had befriended the 13-year-old boy's grandmother and mother and taken him out of town on the pretence of taking him fishing.
But he in fact pulled his car on to a dirt road, made the boy masturbate him and then raped him.
He did this once in July, 2007 and again in February, 2008 when the boy was 14.
Justice Southwood said Kelly had made a great contribution to Aboriginal culture through his art and dance workshops in Territory schools.
Kelly made international headlines in 1993 when he put a curse on Collingwood president Allan McAlister over comments that "as long as they (Aboriginal people) conduct themselves like white people ... everyone will admire them".
Collingwood hasn't won a premiership since.
Justice Southwood said that at the time of the rapes the boy was suffering from volatile substance abuse and struggling to deal with his sexuality.
He said the boy had since had suicidal thoughts and had become withdrawn.
"The crime is an abominable crime for which he must be severely punished," Justice Southwood said. "Children must be protected against such conduct."
He sentenced Kelly to eight years in jail with a non-parole period of six years. |

Don't think so Aussie. Weed has all his grandmothers old dresses and bloomers. Someone said he looks cute in them but he does overdose on the rouge. |

As you posted this thread ;seeming to give confirnation to the fact; that violence is not excusable by such things as alchohol -as it is a cultural thing.

nope-just because some white bloke dilutes your colour by cohbiting with your mother-rarely father;doesnt mean you no longer can identify with the race that is closest to your way of thinking or upbringing.
Race depends on who accepts you as part of that culture and who you identify most with.
if you are mixed race but go into a store to apply for a job but are excleded because of part of your ancestry-that is the part that you will identify with-not with the part that excludes you!
It is the part of society that accepts you; that defines what race you are-not which shade of pigment you may be!!
I feel sorry for your kids then-because by your estimation-they are neither frog nor fish!
You have condemned them to be outcasts from both societies; with your way of thinking and because you bred them to be neither one or the other.
They can not claim to be either Aboriginal or 'white'-which must be pretty damn confusing for them. |

Rubbish. It seems you are the only one confused here Leo.
My kids look part Ab because they are. Now that's pretty simple to understand, even for you.
You have heard the term Eurasian which refers to part Asian and part European (white). Did it confuse you?
Up here, the term part Ab does not confuse the locals at all. It is only southern wanna be's who get their garters in a twist over the term.
So Leo, put a Pit Bull over a Bull Arab and what do you have? A litter of Pit Bulls or a litter of Bull Arabs?
And whether these pups are reared amongst pure bred Pitty's or pure bred Bull Arabs, makes not one iota of difference. They remain cross bred pups.
A litter of Pitty crosses or Bull Arab crosses.

I dont believe looks are the main factor-its identification with a race; that is the main factor-not which parts look like which race!

Hey Dallone
Why do you respond to anyone who disagrees with something you say by abusing/putting down that person?
You might have a better chance of changing a person's point of view if you responded civilly and addressed the idea rather than playing the man.
I also think that a person does not have to have lived in the NT to have a valid point of view about EVERYTHING.
Everyone has life experiences that inform the person's outlook, but one can form an opinion by other means (eg, study) as well as living a life.
This is just my opinion -please don't patronise me by calling me "son".... |

| Gosh Dallone -I didn't realise I needed to have more thaan 19 days of credibility as a Yahoo member to have an opinion that was worth listening to (although maybe it works in reverse.) Can you please enlighten me as to how many years of NT residence it takes to be believed on ANY subject, and perhaps you could rank residence in ANY State in Credibility Units - I am thinking for example that 1 year residence NT = 4 years QLD = 100 years ACT????? hehe |

If so, how do you think this should be arranged - for instance, what should happen if the parents want to leave the community?

No. Can't imagine why anyone would want that sort of segregation here. The land councils are doing their best to keep black and white apart, for their own reasons, however assimilation into mainstream society is a must for Ab to progress.
And it involves us traveling and living amongst them, as well as them living amongst us. |
