| With the increase in the pension benefit, and the fact that unemployed people get less than the pension. Is it right that they should get a fair and just increase?. Should they get around $30 more or so as well?. Maybe the unemployed benefit, should be brought into line with the aged pension?. |

As the previous poster correctly states they should not.
If they want to work they will work, there are far more deserving people who could use the extra help. |

The biggest problem with centrelink payments is the high rate it recovers money when people start earning, even those on low incomes.
IMHO it would help more, certainly be more encouraging, if their % recovery rate was lowered to somewhere not to far above the 10% rate eg 20%,
Centrelink recovery rate currently our highest tax rate which does discourage many.
Those lucky enough to not be subject to Centrelink deductions would then be only taxed at 10%.

| The majority of unemployed people, do want to work. It is only a very, very small number of people that don't wish to. With so many people being put out of work now, and company's sending work offshore for cheap labor, it is now much harder for unemployed people to find work. With the unemployment benefit, being so low as it is, is it really fair people should be expected to survive, on such a low amount?. It is very easy to say, that the unemployed don't wont to work, but we also must remember the thousands of jobs, that have disappeared. |

While abit more money would be a good idea for us job seekers how about instead of confining all the popular certificate courses such as security guarding, transport & logisitics and so on to city tafe campuses only make them available to country campuses as well so its fair
I've tried to enrol for forest & forest products and security operation certificates only to be told they arent available in the country and that i'd have to travel to Adelaide or interstate to study
To put it plain and simple
More money: Yes (only if it is going towards studying something that will help gain employment)
Introducing more certificate courses to country campuses: Yes
Better support from employment agencies: Yes |

| Every wondered why some of them just don't want to work? The way they are put down all the time kills any remaining self esteem they have. Yes, there is a small number that do not want to work and milk the system for all they can get but they are the minority. In the world of tax payers there are many that are less than honest as well. How about a little compassion for your fellow human being that may be doing it a little tougher than some. |

| What makes everyone think most of the unemployed are not trying? I say most as I am well aware there are some who prefer to be unemployed. But those who want to work and are trying far outweigh those who don't. |

how much of the dole does a landlord/parasite take? How many landlords/parsites dont work cos the dole pays for their "investments" "greed". how many ppl who claim the dole give it to landlords who also dont work but use those ppl to pay for their greed? |

You will probably find that most people who want to work are working, those who are not will pay lip service bur are not really interested, they say things like "it is not worth my while" or "too much travelling".
The only answer is to keep the unemployed busy with make work schemes, then they will not be able to to to the pub, pokies or TAB or hang around with their mates, go surfing or fishing.
Work is still an option here! |
