The Dead lines that are Imposed are Impossible to keep , I have been on the Hume Stuck because the police closed the Road after a fatal crash , stuck for 8 hours and the consignee telling my boss if the goods are not at the warehouse by 6am dont bring them till the Next day , thats Pressure , Trucks taking Back roads with bridges rated at 10 ton and having head ons with trucks coming the otherway
To Blame ? the police, (no reason to close the road really ) the government (lack of Funding to build Highways) and the consignees For hacking prices and demanding cartage by time ! Drivers only get paid by cents per Kilometer ,1000 kms Melbourne to Sydney @27cents a Km Taking the Breaks required 12 hours ,without the breaks 11 hours ,with all the stress and driving $270 less tax is OK if there is No backload no pay, no hourly rate ,Its a Cycle that is hard to Break , an accident Caused by someone else down the Highway or a random RTA Stop that can Take 2 hours !means you wont make your Deadline, and the driver does not get paid , Cure ! Simple , make companies Pay drivers Hourly, and companies Charge Tonnes per KM plus time Dead SIMPLE ! |

Of all the times I've driven long distance on the Pacific HIghway, it has almost always been CAR drivers who have done something incredibly stupid or dangerous, and NOT truck drivers. Trucks do speed, usually when going downhill to try and get speed up so they don't have to struggle uphill. Big trucks can have 13gears to get through and they can't brake as quickly when some FOOL in a camry cuts them off.
People who go slower than the speed limit in single lane stretches, then SPEED UP WHEN AN OVERTAKING LANE STARTS. OR the brain-numbingly aggravating people who cruise in the fast lane really slowly rather than just waiting until a faster car has gone past.
The truckies have more experience on the highways, and it shows. |

As an emergency services worker in NSW, I can honestly say,
I attend more car accidents than I do truck accidents.....
The lunatics are there,,,regardless of what they are driving, or riding for that matter. |

Once a month I do a 1000km round trip interstate and I can tell you this;
THERE ARE MORE DANGEROUS CAR DRIVERS THAN TRUCK DRIVERS ON THE ROADS. |

All drivers should do a trip in a truck and check out all the dangerous driving habits of car drivers around them.
Same with motorbikes. Get a clue about how other vehicles operate. |

Maybe if you got your head out off where the sun don't shine you may see that sweeping statements like yours make no sense. |

Truckies have a job to do, just like the rest of us.
Just pray that the "lunatic" who delivers the freight to our local supermarket doesn't miss his timeslot, coz gee I'd hate to be you when you cant do your shopping because some lunatic truckdriver couldn't get there and make the delivery because some extremely nice person in a volvo decided to park in the loading zone for three hours while they window shopped. |

I'd like to clarify my earlier comments.
I was refering to the pretend truckies in 3-5 tonne rigs, not real rigs as those drivers generally do the right thing. Like staying left for example. |

foden21. We must be around the same era. I aven't seen a Foden on the road for years. Before I left Australian to work offshore I worked in a field service engineering role for years. A lot of my work required driving interstate many times well in excess of a 4000 km round trip. I can count on one hand and have spare fingers the number of cowboy long haul transport drivers that I encountered.
The vast majoprity of interstate transport drivers professional to a fault. I rarely found one that would not warn me of any oncoming traffic and most will give you the nod when its safe to overtake. They never drove behind with their lights blinding me in the outside mirrors. I am happy to travel amongst a group of truckies anytime. |

We all know that those nice people who drive in their little spots cars and some who wish they did, all obey the speed limits as well, don't we? They don't tailgate, cut people off because they are in such a hurry to get home or drive their cars in a dangerous manner because they can |

Nope. Not a truckie. I just know that there are more bad car drivers out there than bad truck drivers.
Yesterday for instance. Apart from the numerous speeding cars (even through clearly posted roadworks) a B Double in front of me was cut off by merging car doing, at a guess around 30kph under the speed limit. The truck had to swerve into the right hand land to avoid mangling the car into a twisted heap. I had to hit the brakes to avoid the trailer.
If I had hit the trailer I'm sure I would have been percieved as the guilty one while the a-hole that cut off the truck continued on their merry way. |
