Re:Mining Jobs Reply to this message
Gypsygirl that is rubbish,,, Kiwis are hard men and Hard workers, A lack of jobs in N.Z just means Mates ring Mates and arrange jobs for each other because many, Skilled in Driving Earth Moving Machinery as a result of the massive Hydro schemes N.Z Had

aquaman609... I wasn't just talking about Kiwi Men. I was talking about women too. I personally know a woman who got in like that... I live with a Kiwi guy who introduced me to her and also he told me this himself, as he was suprised the Aussie Government doesn't have the same scheme in place. Instead we have some silly thing called "work for the dole"... not that I have personally done that, as I've never been on benefits longer than 6 weeks...
I'm not saying that Kiwi men aren't good workers, I'm sure they are. Actually, having worked on a mine site myself, I know they are... But that's not the point I was trying to make.

Re:Mining Jobs Reply to this message
Does anyone know if www.miningjobsaustralia.c om is legit?

I'm just asking because the guy that runs it sells a lot of ebooks on getting into mining etc. Even though he is paid very well if a mining company actually does employ one of his candidates for a period of at least 6 months.

He has a lot of testimonials on his site... They all look good.

He sends out an email letting you know when you have been short-listed then proceeds to sell his products. He could be genuine but I'm sceptical; especially when he declares he will provide the Mining Induction ebook free-of-charge if you genuinely can't afford it due to financial hardship. I requested this and I haven't heard from him since then...

I've worked under the WMC mining umbrella in the past and I know they give their own inductions once you are successful, so as I already have experience, I'm not too worried about buying the ebook on mining inductions. On the other side of the coin, I can understand him selling it to someone who has no experience in mining at all.

Just curious is anyone has any info on this company??

HI gypsygirl incanda
Regarding www.minejobsaustralia.c om or are you refering to miningjobsaustralia. c om they both look like they sell booklets. The one I am familiar with is www.minejobsaustralia.com he has a flash looking website but I think those testimonials are all fake, they look look like photos of a google search. He also guarantees a mining job if you dont get a job within 90 days and will donate 1000 dollars to charity if you dont. Not sure if he actually does it. His salaries are alot higher than the market pays for the different positions. Its just to get your attention so you look at his website. He also advertises jobs that are available on jobspace.co.nz but when you go to his website he just sells ebook and mining dictionary and booklets about driving dump trucks which are no good. Mining companies dont reconigse any of this. I have read his book and its packed everynow and then with market information about mining which has no help about getting a job in the mines. Just to puff it up to 100 pages, so it looks better.

Thanks for the input rosssmith81... I smell a rat here.

Kind of funny how I ask for the freebie he offers and then no reply. Anyways! I'm no fool... If he's going to get $5000.00 for me to be successfully employed by a mining company for a period of 6 months, then he shouldn't be so greedy in selling these useless ebooks...

And, yes. The website is: www.minejobsaustralia.com ... They are advertised in the local QLD Careerone paper for Unskilled positions $1650.00 per week - 9 days on, 5 days off!

If I am wrong, I sincerely apoligise; but until someone tells me otherwise, I'm sceptical of this website.

PS. It is interesting to note though, that he does offer certificates in his name... hmmmmmmmm???

Re:Mining Jobs Reply to this message
I'm hoping you can help. I have a question about work roster's in mining. I need to know that what I've been told is true or not. I have been told the following:
1. you are required to request your rostered days off, on your return from leave.
2. that you usually receive 2 weeks notice when your next rostered days off are to be.
3.under some contracts, the employer has the right to with hold leave for 1 period.
4. employees can be required to work up to 4 weeks without leave on short notice.

I hope someone can help!

Re:Mining Jobs Reply to this message
Interesting,

I've been in the mining industry for the last ten years and have never heard of those points that you have just listed.... this does not mean that there arent unscrupulous employers out there trying to put one over prospective employees..

But, as stated, after 10 years of - live in, Fly in, and drive in drive out work in the industry I have never heard of such blatant disregard for employees..

and besides do you really want to work for an employer who thinks those conditions are fair?

Thank you danfrandav.

Thank you very much, you have really helped me!

When I was told those 4 points, even though I have never worked in mining before, I thought then I was being fed a whole lot of rubbish!

Thanks again for you help :)

Re:Mining Jobs Reply to this message
Well every Fly in/out side has a team of chefs/cooks the problem is that they are over worked and severely under-paid..

The site I am on at the moment pays the (contracted) chefs only about $60K per year on a 2on 1 off roster.

Where as an electrician I'm getting over $4000.00 per week, and believe me they work a hell of a lot harder and in worse conditions.

Be careful before you make such a huge decision as leaving QLD just to join the mines here.

Re:Mining Jobs Reply to this message
Hi all.. Just responding to all the questions asked regarding the QFS course that I did..

I would recommend the course to anyone who is serious on getting a job on the mines and have exhausted all other avenues.. I found the course content to be really valuable and informative and it really helped reinforce me career goals.

It can be reasonably pricey considering the fact you must get your HR license, senior first aid and Marcsta, and also have to complete a medical, physical and phsyciatric assessment,

I would recommend checking out their website and trying to make it along to an information course, and also be aware that you must apply to do the course and sit an interview.. they do not accept everyone to enroll in the course.

they cannot guarantee you a job once you have finished the course, but the will actively recruit you until they find you one..

I did the course at the end of feb, and only now are most of the people from the class getting jobs (as they are a new company, they are still marketing themselves, but are signing on with new sites every week, which inturn means more oppurtunities for successful candidates). out of 18 of us I have heard from 10 people saying they have been offered work but These are people that were kind enough to keep in touch and let the others know how they are getting along and sharing the experience. I was offered employment in may but wasn't able to accept due to personal reasons but QFS have now started to recruited me again now I am ready to go ahead and have lined me up an oppurtunity to go to kal and have an interview with kcgm at the end of this month (fingers crossed employment gets offered).

hopefully I was able to shed some light on the course for people considering applying for it, from someone who has had the experience of completing it..

Once again I would reccommend it to anyone that has been trying to get a foot in the door as that is what these guys provide.

Re:Mining Jobs Reply to this message
Hi Kristy - thanks so much for posting your reply about the course :) Much appreciated!! My hubby is flying over to WA from NSW in a few weeks to attend the info session at QFS. Would you be able to tell us how much the course cost (just the course part - he has HR lic, First aid etc ;) ) and also course duration??

Do you think it would hinder him coming from NSW?

Your reply would be much appreciated!

Cheers!!

Belinda.
