| how you doin there kiwigal. I have enjoyed reading your posts, as a fellow kiwi gal, I know what its like trying to get in on the mining, damn near impossible, need experience, blah blah blah, then you hear about people with none that get in. My partner & I have been in perth for about 15 months now, we have had no luck so far, so have just been doing a variety of customer service & labouring roles. we sold everything to make a new life here, and although i do love it here ( we rent an old house by the beach in joondalup), its close to the coast & the country, people are friendly and all those good things, the way the job market is portrayed or was portrayed leads you to believe if you come there will be work (in the mines) but of course now with the recession its all buggered and the only ones making money are all those training providers out there.anyway i wish you all the luck in the world, we are just going to stick to jobs we currently have, & re-visit the whole mining thing next year when hopefully things are better. I still have picture in my minds eye of me operating one of those beautiful big haulpak trucks, I have wanted to drive one since i was little when i had a matchbox version, i will get there one day |

| Hey loveitinperth, i have returned to nz now as i couldn't survive for much longer in Perth. No jobs here either, but at least i have family here. Keep that dream in your mind, i loved it in perth and wasn't going to leave. Couldn't even get an office job in the end as they were employing the aussies first ,which is fair enough. But makes it hard when you sell up everything and make a loss there ,then move to aussie and spend lots of money doing all the right courses and still can't get in, then of course the recession. so dreams are shattered now, and may never afford to go back to aussie. |

| Hi kiwigal, i am shattered to hear to had to return home. I think you got a rough deal, having spent all that money. I spent heaps on courses to, the most expensive was getting my HR. I guess I lucked out with getting a job, but its sooo not what i came here for, i feel like i am always a week too late for opportunities but in this case about 5 years too late. I wish we had come here sooner, hell, i wish a lot of things really. Once again, i am sorry you had to return home, nz is lovely & all that, but in time things will get better here & maybe sooner than home. anyway chick, sincerely all the best, & hey, you never know whats around the corner aye |

| lovetinperth, thanks for that. There is more unemployment here and even for the old office jobs nothing going. It is expected to go from 4% upwards. they use to only have 30 unemployed on their books in auckland, nows its 400 and rising daily. So not much chance of getting a job here. But can survive as i have family here. I knew no one in aussie. So would have run out of funs pretty quickly. Though Barminco is hiring people for underground mining and you have until 23/12/09 to apply. so check out them. |

Some courses are a scam, I was going to do the qfs dump truck course.i had the money , and then I got a job as a cleaner atKcgm for 3 months.
just one example ,one bloke told me he that of the 15 that did the course with him , only 7 actually got a start.
The other 8 poor buggers lost about 4 grand each.
Isnt that what most people would call a scam?
And how many courses do they run ?
how many people have been ripped?
Also experienced means EXPERIENCED!!! , it means you have done it before.HR&Marcsta&clean d&a,loader ticket etc etc
dont add up to experienced, it adds up to another mug in a dead end job wondering why they cant get a mine job. |

| jason ihaka, courses with some of the companies are a scam. But those through richard mining services are not. The dump truck one they have there 70% of the people get a job afterwards. the course i did process plant course, you get certificates and licences and the course was provided as the mining company asked for it to be available. We also met the guy from a mining company who came and taught us part of the course and i just got an email the other day to send my resume to the mining company involved. They did tell us this at the beginning of the course and also the man from the mines said i will try and get all 6 of you up here once i get things organized. So it seems to be happening, the only thing is now i am in nz and would have to return if the job was available to me. May have to sleep in a tent somewhere as i am right down on my funds now after being in aussie for 4 and half months with no money coming in just doing all the bits for the courses. |

jason ihaka & kiwigal. I kinda agree with both of you. Richards Mining services are good, but I know where jason is coming from too.
There are still a lot of projects on the go if www.mineblogger.com.au is anything to go by. There certainly a heap of training providers out there that are milking it off the kiwis that are just looking to get ahesd, but the fact remains that the news reported a few days ago that 7000 mine workers lost their jobs since October with more to come, and if experience is what the employers want, there is certainly of big pool of workers to fish from, & they arent going to be looking at us when they can take the best of whats already there. predictions are that it will be 2015 before mining can get back up to the point where the companies are less fussy about the whole experienced 'thing'. Shame really, coz they are missing out on people like us - capable & hard working. but I guess at least coming from NZ, we have never really known boom times so we are better equipped to deal with having hard times, & not having cash falling out of our pockets.
well, thats my venting done for the day. think happy thoughts everyone |

| It's not fair to say courses are a 'scam'. Just because someone does a course, doesn't mean they'll necessarily get a job! That's the risk you take. Job search is about much more than simply doing a course. I did a journalist course once by correspondence, doesn't mean I'll ever be employed as a journalist! |

Did your correspondence course cost $4000 for a worthless
unusable "qualification"? |

| My course didn't cost $4,000 but a university degree costs that and more and I can assure you there are just as many qualified geologists for example who have spent years studying at university and who are also looking. Like I said, qualifications are just one part of the overall job search/success factor. |

You dont say where you are looking.Aussie is big.
Ringing or visiting is probably better than websites.
In Kalgoorlie try Delron also on a minesite you will need
a clean d&a test , police clearence, probably marcsta and
a pre employment medical.Pay is about$21 an hour on a
minesite, you will bloody work for it too.
I was clearing $800 for 46 hrs. |

| He is also using the site www.minejobsinfo.info to help others to purchase the PDF version for $77 or the CD version for $87 for the publication " Dump Truck Jobs Fast Tracker by Gerald Whitlam ".I have removed hundreds of the stickers www.Minejobsinfo.com ( 0448 44 55 66 ) from here in Toowoomba from all over town. They stuck all over the place, lamp poles, traffic lights, council infrastructure and private property. Sometimes they are about two metres apart when the person responsible for this graffiti that is plastered almost everywhere. I will remove any I see. |

WTF?
What the hell were you doing to get that?
Sorry dude but you were getting ripped off.
I've been in mining in WA for a while and even the cleaners in the villages get paid more than that!
seek is a good place to start, then red dirt mining employment services and hays.
Failing that try the companies themselves. They all have thier own careers pages on thier websites. BHP, Newmont, Newcrest, Anglo ashanti, Lihir, etc, etc, etc, yadda yadda yadda... |

so can anyone tell me what they got paid for cleaning at minesite villages or even kitchen handing etc. we went to a seminar back at the beginning of 08 with spotless ( i think)
they were very vague about pay, but it worked out to be less than $20 an hour. and besides that the lady heading the seminar was a really arrogant cow. She was a kiwi (maori) about 40 yrs old, and we were really disgusted with hher attitude to all of us, and we never followed thru with iit because we decided we didnt want to work for a company tthat had someone with her demeanor as their front person, i mean if that was their spokesperson what were the bosses going to be like. I work hard and put everything into the task at hand but i expect some respect in return. but since arriving nov 07, we still havent had any bites in the mining sector, and i doubt in these tough times we ever will. we are frustrated beyond belief, but really love in WA, and i dont want to return to NZ. like the rest of you out there, if only we were given a chance to prove ourselves, we would get that experience. i am very wary of doing any further 'courses' or buying any get into mining books, its a bit of a crock |

| Hi, I have done some enquiries on any *Mining Employment Agency within Australia*and Employment agencies...The Fair trading confirmed that it is illegal for any EMPLOYMENT agency to request for fees/money from someone looking for a job!!! If the employment agency is requesting money from you, lodge a complaint against them because it is illegal. |

| Warning: please do not use http://www.minejobsaustralia.com/. This is a scam site. The individual has been prosecuted before and the 'tickets' are bogus. The previous message is correct, it is illegal to charge an individual to apply for, or progress through any sort of recruitment and selection process. As a candidate, unless you are paying for training through a Nationally Accredited Training Provider, you should NEVER part with money. Head to www.mineblogger.com.au for a credible source of information about jobs in the industry and their Inside Guide - which is free. |
