| The mining boom maybe over. But there are still plenty of jobs in the mining sector for those willing to work and do a course to help you along the way. i went to a information evening at one of the big mining services to the mines who have been asked by some of the bigger mines to do a training session for new recruits wanting to get into the mines and will take the new recruiters if they pass the course and give them jobs. also told that the WA side of mining will not go down as it is rich in its minerals and will be still plenty of jobs around.I think you mag tide just have a hate for anyone whos not aussie. |

Not at all,
just like to keep what quality of life we have for a little longer is all.
I never knew what low opinions there were about WA b4 visiting these boards.
More population pressure would only make it worse. |

| lol, that is so funny kelcato. Us kiwis are just crossing the ditch for the weather and the better pay for jobs. I don't mind having to work my butt of for the dollars, but i am here to stay too, so any job i get i will be keeping for the next 10 years at least. This country is big enough for us all to share, so don't be greedy. lol |

| Hey Kiwigal53 (real name?) just telling it how it is, there are plenty of other things to worry about in this world than a couple of Thousand hard working kiwis!! Hows the hunt going for work....I have been here nigh on 7 months now and done everything from doing a haul truck driving course in Perth to Moving furniture in Kalgoorlie, to exploration drilling (company downsized) and on to servicing trucks and trailers, and now I start a job in a mine in Newman on Monday, took a while and I have to admit it was someone I know who got me in...just try to get amoungst it as best you can and you never know where it can lead! |

| Hi Kelcato, can't give my real name on here, thats a secret to the nation. kiwigal is all, lol. Yes there is plenty of jobs and definitely other things to worry about than whos taking the jobs. anyway there is enough jobs out their for the aussies as well but they can't be applying for them, so they take whoever else does and has the experience they are looking for. I myself have decided i want to do site clerk for a mining or oil and gas coms. I have got 11 years experience in all sorts of office work and think that is better for me as i have the experience in that field. so i am going to apply for office jobs in perth in those companys associated with the mines head offices. I was going to do the offsiders course in late january when it is suppose to start up but if something comes along before then in office that is what i will go for. Plus i don't want to drive the trucks now, so there is the process plant course going later in january too and you don't need a truck licence for that,it is a 10 day course with 12 hour days in a quarry and doing the theory for different aspects ,but a date for that has still to be decided as that is another new course. But i am hanging in there as i intend to make perth or australia my home, maybe queensland one day but at the moment will get the experience i need just working for a aussie company first. Good you have processed up the ladder in your jobs and hope you enjoy the new one in newman. |

| Hey Darren 1 88 , look up marcasta courses in the area you are in and see where your closest training centre is. I did mine at richard mining services you sit the 8 hour course and do 4 lots of tests at the end of each section it cost $140.00 they give you a receipt at the end of the course if you pass, which i think most people do as you only have to get 80% right, and then in 30 days they send you the certificate. I passed 100% and really it is just common sense, safety should always be top prioity. hope that helps |

Hi Phil
I recommend that you subscribe to www.mineblogger.com.au in addition to posting on boards like this. The site updates all subscribers weekly on where the jobs are now, where they are down the track, what you need to do to prepare, some tips on getting a foot in the door etc. It only launched 6 weeks ago and already has a mass of information for people. It's free and it's done by recruiters in the resource sector - not agencies!
Hope that helps. |

| I would say with a few mines letting lots of people go , the ones that have lost their jobs will be going for the jobs that are advertising for people and have had the experience in the mines which is the hard part. Unless of course you take one of the dump truck courses that train you in a salt mine for 12 hour days starting at 6.30am for anywhere between $4000 and $6990.00 that is the only way you will get some experience. Because as i have said before its who you know not what you know. But in the case of dump truck drivers they aren't going to let you drive their$350,000 truck in the mines if you have driven on before and they are 350 tonne trucks. So the courses is the only place you get to drive on in a mining situation and also they give you a compendant certificate which is what the mining industry require to say you can drive one. |
