This would be the best site and the cheapest books with great information in it much better than minejobs etc. Plus a lot cheaper and you can email him and ask questions where as the other sites don't answer your questions just want you to buy more books fredspudly.

Hi kiwigal, regarding the ESS they require an ozzy national police clearance. Even if you are a kiwi and have just arrived as long as you are allowed in the country you get a fresh start in ozzy another reason to head over from nz.

smudgeandrew, fresh start, i didn't have any convictions or police records for the forty something years i have been in nz, and i asked for a full police record of any convictions ,charges or whatever. But i will do the national police clearance after i get a med cert, etc and then as long as i have the receipt to say i have asked for one by the 30 oct when i go to the ESS information day i will be fine. Though they don't exactly pay much, the over time etc would have to be a lot more to feel as if you are getting some money for the long hours, lol

And Remember DO NOT BUY ANY ONLINE BOOKS that may claim to getting you into mining . They are ONLY cashing in on desperate hard workers. I got sucked in that shit .

no worries
there are plenty of companies that will give you a go but dont expect the pay to be really good....but atleast you get the experience.
My husband started out with Byrnecut and they were ok....they opened up the door for my husband. |

Hi danfrandav i am finally here in perth now. I have been getting my driving licence sorted out, had to do another theory test and full medical to get my nz licence transferred to a WA one, so done that, applied for tax file, set up my bank account, applying for my national police clearance as soon as i get my atm card from the bank with proof of address for them. So where in perth can one go to get a medical clearance survelliance card from? I am close to joonalup though in padbury? Anyone know please. i will go and do the marcasta soon.

Hi Kiwigal,
sounds like you have been busy! You are obviously dinkum employers like to see proactive people like you.
If ESS doesn't work out you can try Sodexo but the pay is not too good!
good luck |

hi ya danfrandav, thanks. yes ess is only $14 an hour i have been told for the first 8 hours then time and a half for the remainder 4 hours of the 12 hour shift, but it would at least be a foot in the door, accommodation and food supplied. i had to cancel the appointment for the 30th as i am still waiting for the atm card for proof of address to do the national police clearance and i had to do the full medical for the truck part of my licence yesterday. But hopefully will be able to go to the 10 nov information day. Then it will be the marcasta course i will enroll myself into and then start looking for the mining jobs if the ess doesn't work out. Yes i am one of those people who like to do as much as she can on her own back first and then see what else i need to get the job and do that as well. whatever it takes, i am a woman on a mission, lol

phillip edmonds i can keep in touch with you. i haven't got into the mining industry yet. still getting all the paper work done on this side now that you need before even approaching the mining industry for jobs. Still got to do the mining induction course yet and am finding everything paper wise is a slow process in obtaining. So in the meantime just finding my way around WA as i don't have a car so am using foot power for local and buses and trains for further away. Don't want to buy a car until i am sure i have a job, otherwise i could move up to queensland. I am sure if you are both positive people and you have relations in the business you will be set. I don't know any one in there but am postive about things. Nice to have kiwi connections in aussie too.

hi phillip will do. you may be able to get a job in the mining industry driving the buses that collect the workers from a pick up point to the drop off where they take the works vehicles to the different jobs in the mining. they need those several times a day and night so that may be a great way for you and then if you are good at it for 6 months and want to get into the big dump trucks they will have seen how you handle the buses and you could go up the ladder like that. I just received back my national police clearance so that is one document down that you need to get into the mining industry and has to be done here. I'd been quite happy as a site office person as i have 11 years doing that so have a few talents up my sleeve for various jobs. But will keep you posted for you and your partner along the way. cheers

Hi I would suggest contacting ESS about working in the camps. I live in one in Newman and have lived in the ESS one in Karratha, both are well run and employ females for cleaning rooms and working in the mess. Also try some of the larger construction companies and try for trades assistant work or peggy/cleaner on site the cash might be higher there. Monadelphous are ramping up in Newman at present. Good luck
