Re:Mining Jobs Reply to this message
ESS in Perth, are contracted to most sites throughout WA.
If you go online, they prefer to recruit online and the process takes a month or so, depending on how quick you want to get organised to get out to work.

the website for recruitment is

http://compass-group.com.au/

Hope that helps.

Re:Mining Jobs Reply to this message
Hi all,

an interesting thread with many differing points of view over the last year or so.

I am a fit and healthy 38 y.o. male with a background mainly in customer service. I have been working for a cruise line out of the US for the last couple of years. Great fun and see the world but the money is crap. Just can't save enough to get ahead. So have decided to bite the bullet and see for myself what the "real story" is regarding someone with no experience gaining entry into the mining/resources sector.
I have an HR licence, current National Criminal History Check, and have just completed my Snr 1st Aid Certificate.
I am in NSW but am getting on that plane to Perth in a couple of days. Thinking nothing ventured nothing gained.

Plan to knock on a few doors in Perth then train it out to Kalgoorlie and knock on a few more there.
I will be looking for campsite/field positions as I don't want to have to worry about accomodation.
I will mainly be trying for drillers offsiders gigs, but will take whatever I can get, to get started.

If anyone has any contacts or advice it would be greatly appreciated.

I will let you all know what happens!

Re:Mining Jobs Reply to this message
Hi Rosmeariecowley, i have looked up the ESS web page but they don't give any jobs on there. Do you just contact them and ask for certain jobs you may be interested in? Anyone know what other jobs are available for woman in the mining industry? Besides the dump truck driving which everyone seems to want to do. I can do administration, have my MR licence, have done the police clearance, and my senior first aid course, will do the marcasta induction when i get to aussie in about 5 weeks time. Have got a friend to stay with in perth until i get on my feet. I was thinking of Rc offsider assistant and Air core assistant. what about blast hole, down hole surveyor etc, reckon woman could do that. i am great with machinery and tools, and cut concrete etc, chain sawing, building. so wouldn't mind an outside job not as physcial as the guys shoveling all day, but a bit physcial.

Re:Mining Jobs Reply to this message
can anyone point me into the right direction?

my partner and I are considering working on the WA mines next year. We are just looking for more information on how we apply for jobs & how/where we can do the induction courses etc. My boyfriend is a qualified chef, and I would be looking into housekeeping or something similar as I dont have a professional trade. We are really looking for information on how we go about applying for jobs on the same mine, getting the same week off, and the chances of getting the same kind of hours(day/night). Also an idea on salery expectations would be nice to know.
Any information you could give me would be greatly appreciated :)

Thanks

Re:Mining Jobs Reply to this message
Hi, I just read your interesting comments. I have classes 1,2,3,4,5,6 , NZ driving licences and am wanting to work in the mines, driving. I have just sold, two years ago my business after 14 years and have lost all of my savings/capital with the collapse of a high profile investment company here in NZ, one of the many! Could you perhaps contact me at jhsands@gmail.com and offer me any help or suggestions on where to start looking. Thank you.

Re:Mining Jobs Reply to this message
Good luck tom01.tran.!

I have only picked up this thread tonight & have been very interested in the discussion as my 21year old son has finished his carpentry apprenticeship 6 months ago & is very keen to get out into the 'big world'. He has applied for many jobs in WA & Qld (we live in VIC) & is happy to travel anywhere for work of any kind in the mining industry, but is very dispirited by the response to his applications. Advertisers of positions rarely return even a letter of notification that the application was received and often don't advise that they require experience until he has followed up his application with a phonecall.
Having said that, how do they expect to maintain their workforce if they don't give the young one's a go - they can't get experience without being given a chance !

Very frustrating !

If anyone can suggest something - I would be grateful - he is very enthusiatic & has tickets for scaffolding & forklift among other things. He is also doing his Heavy Endorsment for truck driving at the moment.

Just a reminder, for what it's worth. To get that dream job or any job in boom or no boom times, qualifications or unskilled, resumes, age etc
Remember the old saying " not what you know, it's who you know". It's proved me correct 100%.
Mate of mine made into the mines and is set.. he was the last person i'd expect, nevertheless, good luck to him. All because he knew someone in there with rellies.
I'd suggest moving to the area and visiting pubs asking around and getting to know the right people..

Re:Mining Jobs Reply to this message
Hi Guys,

If anyone out there is wanting more information about getting into the mining industry particular driving dump trucks and doesnt have any contacts in the industry. The way I got into the industry was, I brought an eguide of this guy who work in the mines himself, he has newspaper clippings and it turned out to be all legit. Bloody thing did the trick for me and now driving dump trucks up in newman. But If you know someone in the mines, contact them first as this would be the best way for unskilled people to get into the industry. Even if its a friend of a friend, people are normally happy to help getting people into the industry.
This is the guys website. http://www.getajobinthemines.com

Re:Mining Jobs Reply to this message
Hiya Kiwigal. You say you have had your police clearance check and done your senior first aid course. Can you do them both in NZ? Do I approch NZ saint Johns? and how do you initiate the police chaek for WA over here? Any advice on what you can do whilst in NZ would be hugely apprieciated. That way I can be as prepared as I can when I go to Auz. My skill is in the heavy transport training field in all classes of truck Thanks

Re:Mining Jobs Reply to this message
Hi there stevegilliver, yes you can do your senior first aid course in nz before you leave as that lasts for a couple of years, i did mine with red cross as st johns was on the other side of auckland for courses. They have red cross in australia as well, its really just a work place one, two day comprensive course i did. Police clearance they may do another one in aussie, but since i am in nz at the moment, you just go on line and look for crimnel record for nz police on the internet, comes up with the web page, you can do a full one or particial, i did the whole lot and it takes about 20 days and then you get an offical letter back with nothing found or whatever crime record they have for you. cost nothing here, but i think it cost $44 aussie dollars to get it from wa,and then they must have to contact nz i suppose.otherwise the aussie one would come up with nothing too. Heavy transport is fricken hard to get into especially the mining areas unless you have had experience in the mines. i know some people who have had 25 years driving HR and still can't get a job in the mines. Hope this helps you mate.

Re:Mining Jobs Reply to this message
hi there kayjes87 what does NRW and BIS stand for? I myself are waiting until i arrive in perth before applying to companies for jobs, as most you have to be resident. I have registered in a few mining sites on line, but no success ,probably because i am still in nz. But any input on the subject is greatly appreciated. Yes i am hoping to do cold calling myself and front up and ask about jobs, that way they see what they are getting.
