I'm not on my P's any more, and I haven't had the same problem. Mind you, it did only happen once.

...and they've done worse.

Re:Anti Hoon Laws Reply to this message
Well mintie boy, I think we all know exactly what I meant by hoon drivers...Now I don't want to get into a 'flame war' over the definition of a hoon driver. But I agree if you drink and drive then you definately need your car removed from you and your license as well. Now when you say indicating inappropriately and some one driving in a 110km zone and only driving at 80kph, then it is up to you as a responsible driver to take (with foresight) the nessassary actions to ensure your safety and the safety of all other road users and drive to those on road conditions. But if you turn into a corner and have some moron sliding or fishtailing out of control at you, how would you take the appropriate response when those conditions are manufactured from sheer stupidity on the other drivers behalf because he wanted to impress his or her mates? They are the drivers that need their heads pulled in, not someone who accidently used the wrong turn signal........

Re:Anti Hoon Laws Reply to this message
Sorry sticks don't buy it. Indicating inappropiately or other cars becoming inpatient behind a slow moving vehicle are nothing I can do anything about ... the drivers of those other vehicles have manufactured the conditions.

Also I have never had a near accident or miss with someone doing 'hoon' activities (ever) ... whilst at least weekly I have to avoid someone who doesn't indicate correctly, isn't paying attention or other issues ...

Have a serious think about how often 'hoon' behaviour has endangered your safety or led to you having a near miss compared to other offences.

Sure I don't think 'hoon' behaviour should be condoned, but the hype and laws focusing on this offence far out weigh the seriousness and extent of these offences.

Re:Anti Hoon Laws Reply to this message
mintie, totally agree, the fine is supposed to reflect the "crime", they put it up with drink driving(if not worse), drink driving causes around 45-50 of fatal accidents every year(by the BS governments stats), now "hooning" cause around one maybe two deaths a year, same/similar fines...... once again, there are way more important things killing people out there, than the "hype" of "hooning".

i couldn't believe they had a dedicated helicopter to catch "hoons".. what a waste of resources, that helicopter could have been used for numerous other WAY more important things.

Re:Anti Hoon Laws Reply to this message
did you hear where teh cops are going to get souped up cars ;to mingle with the'hoon' crowd so they can get info.

That kind of undercover work; seems more like entrapment to me.

Give a copper a terrific car and he can legally hoon to his hearts content-but can then excuse himself as being undercover and having to act like all the others!!

Re:Anti Hoon Laws Reply to this message
they dont go hooning, they either keep to themselves or just rev the motor at the lights. If you decide to drag them then thats your own problem.

If you are stupid enough to break the law, is that your fault or is it the coppers fault?

It's a simple equation people, do the right thing and obey the road laws and the coppers will leave you alone....It ain't rocket science!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh they pull you over for a breath test and check your license once in a while. BIG DEAL.

Oh another thing, if you do see a copper breaking the law, report them because they have no mandate just because they are 'on the job' to break the law either. They are there to uphold it!

Re:Anti Hoon Laws Reply to this message
I think technically they are only to break the law when their sirens and lights are on (and they can only turn them on for emergencies).

Have you ever noticed how so many don't want to overtake a police car either be in suburbia or on a freeway

Re:Anti Hoon Laws Reply to this message
How do you work out who is a hoon? An old guy who was speeding at 1am through a 40km/h zone (where no one actually does 40km/h) was done as a hoon. Sure he was speeding but is he a hoon? It is also likely that there was no one working in that 40 Km/h zone and that the signs should not have been left out.

Hoons do more than speed or behave dangerously in built-up areas.

The entire way we fine/demerit road users is wrong. For example someone doing 110 on Roe Highway (where it is effectively a freeway - bridges/fenced/etc) on a Sunday with 3 other cars in about 5km of road gets the same fine as someone doing 61 in a 50 zone where there are kids. Who is the bigger threat to life and limb? At 11k over the limit in a 100 zone a driver is 11% over the limit.
At 11k over in a 50 zone a driver is 22% over the limit.

Fines/demerits should be calculated in the same manner and be more relevant to the degree of risk posed by the offender to other road users and paedestrians etc.

Re:Anti Hoon Laws Reply to this message
Just because no one does 40km on a road doesnt mean it should be 40. They put speed limits in place for a reason, it only effects you if you break the law.

Im not sure why people argue these points.. Your point was absolutley ridiculous. If you dont like the system either dont break the law or dont drive.

saos1n888 - """...If you dont like the system either dont break the law or dont drive."""

or try to change stupid and useless law! and that is a point which we argue here! validity and method of enforcement of this particular law!

and believe or not - most of traffic offences are defendable in court if you have good lawyer... i know...

Re:Anti Hoon Laws Reply to this message
We should all abide by the law, but yes, where those laws are absurd, such as 40k school zones, then we should lobby for their removal.
Kids would benefit more by being tought some life-skills rather than be kept wrapped in cotton wool by 40k zones and such.
40k is a very unnatural speed for a modern vehicle to travel at.

Re:Anti Hoon Laws Reply to this message
that is one of the most ridiculous statements i have ever seen feralflea, its is not hard to travel 40kmh you just take your foot off the accelerator, kids are being taught lifeskills every day but they should never have to feel what 2 tonnes of metal at 60kmh feels like, no matter how capable and smart a kid is the young mind is unable to assess risk as we adults do, so the steriotypical chasing the ball accross the road is the reason as a society we have set a 'reasonable' speed limit to protect or greatest assett which is ours, mine and your own little helpless child, love of our life, mate if you are ever seen going faster than the 40kmh speed limit in a school zone i sincerely hope you are taught a 'life lesson' !!!!!

Re:Anti Hoon Laws Reply to this message
by the way.... the comments on "don't break the law and they'll leave you alone, and my personal favorite, "Oh they pull you over for a breath test and check your license once in a while. BIG DEAL"

you obviously don't own a nice car or it is "standard"... try driving an hour and a half to the local race track to "do the right thing", first of all Every RBT turns out to be a 20 minute ordeal as the Orifecer goes over the car, checks all the blomin plates, "just to make sure shes safe". then you finally get away to get to the track the said 20 mins late.... to only sit in the waiting pits for another hour because its over-crowded and no-where big enough....to finally get one maybe two runs in.. then to leave and be greeted with you guessed it, 15 police cars on the exit, another 20 minute ordeal( and watching a few arguments in the process) to then head out on the highway to be tailgated and "rassed" up by "unmarked" cun tsables...

all the while doing absolutely nothing wrong in your road registered, road worthy(even more than most) vehicle that "looks" nice.....

now that is a true story...of many a trip to willowbank, and people wonder why these "hoons" pick back streets and industrial areas. next time the tender comes up in your town for a new race track, how about supporting it. it will at least give us somewhere to go...insted of that dangerous public road....
