I am able to spend more time with my kids after work

------------

Daylight till 7 pm now any way. What time do your kids have a bath, do homework, eat dinner, go to bed etc. When it is already daylight so late anyway what use is an extra hour especially when young kids need a routine. No pint bathing them them sending outside again to get dirty all over again.

Gotta laugh too. Silica is still pushing for a referendum in a state in which she doesn't reside therefore cannot vote.

Re:Daylight Saving Reply to this message
Bradus you told us you lived in Queensland so you cannot vote in WA. Now I do live in WA and part of the year in Queensland so I can make comment at least on QLD.. I vote in WA but not Qld. However whether I vote in Qld or not I have a right to my opinion. You appear to be very thin skinned and one eyed. Typical of a Banana Bender. I notice on the Qld. Daylight board you have added crocodiles and sharks to the fading curtains excuse for no daylight saving.
THEY REALLY HAVE guys check it out yourselves, they are actually saying that they do not want DLS in queensland as they cannot enjoy the late evenings because of sharks and crocodiles. What a bunch of troppos.

From further down your same post

"It appears though that you are very FRIGHTEND of such a trial and vote."

"I assume that is because you FEAR the majority of Queenslanders like myself will approve Daylight Saving for QLD."

So how, as a West Australian are you intending to rought the electoral system to vote over there then come over here and approve DLS as a QLDer?

You are entitled to an opinion and I have never said you aren't. All i said was you look a goose asking for the right to vote in referenda in both states.

Go on, tell me I have misquoted you.

Evenings. More time to play in rivers and on beaches in the evenings gives greater exposure to their active time of the day. It is logical I think.

Have you found the stats to prove your "less pedestrian and vehicle accidents during the day time" theory? No? That's because it is rubbish.

Re:Daylight Saving Reply to this message
Doesnt matter what they do or dont do ...Most of the places up here have decided that as we do things in the morn before work if they move time an hour we just open and close an hour later so we can still do our swimming and other things before work. We all like the extra daylight in the cool of the morning not the heat of the arvo..Just a personal choice.

Bradus02...you are a twit. I can not put it any simpler. I am glad to see that people out there were able to put you in your place regarding playing inside verses outside. I enjoy an active life with my kids. As for the time, I finish work around 5pm, so their homework etc is done BEFORE i get in, which allows us to play....and...how about, bath time...night clothes on and cuddles with mum and dad before bed??? May be you don't have kids, mmmm, not surprised!

Re:Daylight Saving Reply to this message
Actually have two kids of my own. They are bathed by 5pm after playing outside for a fair part of the day. Sure outside play is important for their health. Kids have just as much fun though, in the evenings, playing indoors with things that exercise their minds (jigsaws, blocks, counting games, singing, reading), something that is overlooked greatly in this day and age of treating sports stars as gods and focussing greatly on physical activity. No wonder our children are becoming less and less literate with parents who ignore these other aspects of childhood development.

I can assure you they play more than enough and eat good diets to ensure childhood obesity is not a problem either. I spend a great amount of my time at the wekend involved in both their indoor and out door activities.

How lucky you are to finish work at 5pm, I am lucky to leave the office by 6 after working a ten hour day.

Let me assure you simon that it is still light enough for outside play now at 7.30pm where I live for my kids to play in the yard if appropriate. Not to mention I have a rumpus room you could park a B-double in.

What do you do for the months where you don't have DLS? Do your kids put on massive amounts of weight seeing as they have at least an hours less daylight in which to play without regard to shorter days anyway? They don't do they so don't spout on how virtuous you are for letting your kids run your life instead of the other way round.

I enjoy an active life with my children and they with me
As for the name calling (twit for goodness sake), leave that to the children who are graced with DLS.

Re:Daylight Saving Reply to this message
What about in the northern half of WA? The main reason people on the east coast say they want dls is to suit sydney business hours. Will you all be going for that?

They mention the wildlife because turkeys say they are going to the beach or creek with their kids in the evenings....you can not safely swim in the day! There are signs and warnings north of about Gympie.

Thats the point Aunty you would not swim there Day or Night so why are you using Crocodiles as a Anti Daylight reason. You Northern Queenslanders would go well on Monty Python because you make about as much sense, "OH your a lumberjack and your OK"

You guys reckon we should spend more time at the beach with our kids. No you wouldn't swim there but why give the ignoramuses from south of the border an extra hour to ignore the signs and turn themselves into croc bait?

More sense than, "DLS would lower the number of vehicle and pedestrian accidents during summer cause there is more daylight available to drive/walk home in."

Gee there must be heaps of accidents in winter when its dark by 5 pm. You found those stats on that yet?

Re:Daylight Saving Reply to this message
A couple of comments on Daylight Savings in response to Silicacontent's post

1) On most weeknights – the majority of people turn on the TV and sit in front of it after dinner at about 7pm-ish… does it really matter then if it is dark outside?
2) I agree time on the beach in the evening is lovely – it is also great first thing in the morning before you go to work – you should try it sometime! (also – pretty sure you can see the sunset any night of the year regardless of whether it is daylight savings time or not!)
3) Some of us aren’t lucky enough to have a balcony to enjoy those lovely light evenings - have you ever tried sitting out on that balcony after dark? It is generally just as nice – particularly when the day has been 40degrees and it is just cooling off once the sun is down.
4) I believe it is a personal choice to waste the sunshine in the morning… one comment from a friend of mine was that he thought the best part of living in WA (as opposed to the east coast) was that he was able to get up in the morning and go for a jog or a surf before getting in the car to go to work…
5) Regarding the amount of business we lose in one hour of trading with the eastern states without DLS – this is probably minimal and offset by the fact we are one hour closer to London and Europe time, and still on the same timezone as a large part of Asia (esp. Indonesia and Hong Kong with who the mining industry do a significant amount of business) – most businesses who rely on trading with the eastern states have already adjusted their working hours to suit.

Re:Daylight Saving Reply to this message
continuing on...

6) Actually it is reflected in a number of studies internationally that there are actually more accidents during the changes to/from DLS time as drivers are generally more fatigued as their bodies get used to the change in routine. (http://www.mcmaster.ca/i nabis98/occupational/core n0164/two.html) If pedestrians stayed on the footpaths and drivers watched where they were driving then the issue of pedestrian fatalities would be less of a problem. Would suggest a look at road safety is more important than a change in our clocks.
7) Would suggest that the amount of night time driving is not likely to be impacted significantly with the introduction on DLS… People would still be heading home from the pubs when it is well and truly dark on a Friday/Saturday night… (I think most people who are likely to cause driving accidents generally head home either in peak hour (which will be daylight either way) or late at night after
8) What works for the east coast does not necessarily mean we should take it up in the West. If they need to be 2hrs ahead of us all year round – then why don’t they drop daylight saving? Why do we have to change to suit them?
9) If you really want to make the most of daylight hours – an alternative (much less hassle than daylight saving) is to campaign your boss for a system of either flexi-time (where you start work an hour earlier and finish an hour earlier – without forcing the rest of us to do the same!) or RDO’s – the concept with an RDO being that if you work an extra half hour everyday, then you can get 1 extra day a month off to enjoy the day!
10) One thing that people conveniently forget is what Perth is like in a regular summer (not an unusually mild one like last year) when we get a number of days within the 40-45 degree bracket. Can you imagine what it would be like to get to bed an hour earlier when it is that hot? Not to mention the problems for all those people trying to put their children to bed!

Re:Daylight Saving Reply to this message
Finally...
11) I personally support the concept of a trial and referendum, even though I don’t necessarily support daylight savings. People have the right to make up their own mind on this and vote as they see fit. A balanced debate of all the pros and cons would be nice (particularly in the media). I think 1 year would be a sufficient trial as the reason behind the 3 year trial is purely political (they are scared they won’t get re-elected based on this issue!) – I think it should be an election issue and I believe we have the right to voice our opinions… besides – isn’t it cheaper and less of a hassle for everyone to run a referendum at the same time as people are going to the polls anyway? I also think that the referendum should follow on immediately after the trial, not in the middle of winter.
12) Finally, my major objection with the way this has been handled is that it has basically been forced on us with no opportunity for us to have a say whether we want a trial or not. By rights, this should have been raised as an election issue – allowing us to decide democratically if we want to proceed with a trial/referendum or not.
