| I'm so for it! We need it - It's good I work long hours and 6 days a week so for me to get home at 6pm when it's usually dark I can wash my car and do my gardening, Just like 7day trading, Rather than do my groceries and paying bills on a Saturday when every tom, dik and harry are out with there dog, I will happily do my groceries on a Sunday etc etc which I am use to from the east coast but for some reason WA (Wait awhile allright) They don't seem to like it, which I think is good for uni, high school students to earn extra dollars.....Western Australians need to come out of the 19th century and wake up to the 21st....I don't have a choice to be here, I have to be here...... |

funny how people denigrate WA-yet we are the state that has had the biggest influx in the past year-if they dont like it why do they come.We are already overpopulated and they just stretch the recources and infrastructure we taxpayers have funded in the past; and push housing prices and rentals even higher; for thsoe who live here!
seems NSW has actually lost numbers!Why are people abandoning there?? |

Employment. You don't even need to have learned a trade or have gone to university, and you can make a tidy sum.
We're not exactly overpopulated either. The problems we have come down to poor planning and inefficient allocation of resources. |

Caught up with a mate recently & asked after some other people we both knew- out of about 10 friends- 7 have left Perth
Big deal- we have been attracting middle-aged tradies- we are losing young professionals |

now, employment - are you proposing to close teh borders to easterners? i am actually not for closing it but to give them only and only temporary residency without state/local voting rights... look what forrest did! |

We're really not. Our resources aren't stretched, simply not utilised (land, infrastructure etc.)
And I certainly don't propose we close the borders to those from Eastern States or abroad. I'm merely stating that the reason we've had an influx is because of the resources boom we have experienced, and the opportunities they've provided. |

jaykay - you are young and command very, very promissing mind. regardless differences in opinion i value good mind greatly.
now, where you erring is actually in resources sector... any land, even richest, can support only and only limited population. do calculate rainfall and available water resources and you will see that amount of population is finite. in wa we already explored and exhausted our water resources well beyond recovery capacity of our current annual rainfall!
logisticly, we need close to twice amount of water available now just to get even with our ground water! salinity is not only result of de-forestation and agricultural vandalism but also a result of insufficient surface wash, where there is no excess water pumping from deeper aquifers and therefore is getting replaced by direct rainfall! that is unfortunate disaster observed time and again in densely populated, production managed areas.
water aquifer supporting collie, collie mines and collie river is depleted, this increased salinity in surface water rendering wellington dam, collie river and several other surrounding creeks useless and unsuitable to rural or human use.
exactly same situation arised in perth, water becomes so scarce that desertisation of perth can be observed even without any scientific tools... have look at fresh water levels even in all lakes surrounding perth, mandurah, wanneroo, gnangara... all are dry, no drop of water in them left.
infrastructure build is not utilised for very, very simple reason, density of population is too low, i did mentioned in previous note that we need density of population of about 1000 person/km2 - we have quarter of that. we need to build up, just to increase city density, just to utilise resources! every kilometre of telephone line cost money, every kilometre of road cost money, electricity, gas... all of these cost money - nor resources, nor money are unlimited.
