North Queensland doesn't need it. Its daylight from before 5.15am through to after 6.30pm anyway
WOW how exciting DARK at 6.30pm
NOW YOU SEE THE BENEFIT OF DAY LIGHT SAVING
Its here in WA get used to it.
ausgal - I didn't say it was dark at 6.30pm, I said AFTER 6.30pm which means its not needed. It might be good for those in the southern states where its dark by 5.00pm, but not here. |

| And for the record, WA is not considered in the dark ages...it is the most prominent money spinning state we have. It is not considered backward. I am not from or in WA. I've done my share of travelling and Sydneysiders are the stupidist people with their "cosmopolitan" lives. They are really just dorks. |

One state, One territory still in the darkages.
WA is now an enlightend state.
Ausgal - Wow, one state and one territory still in the dark ages. What a statement. How do you think Queensland business and individuals deal with the many time zones when contacting people in overseas countries. Its been happening for many years now without a problem and fiddling with the clocks to suit southern states makes no sense when we ourselves won't benefit from it. |

yes i dont think that queensland and the northern territory need it or want it either. maybe south east queensland could have it but the rest of the state doesnt need it. i doubt they want temperatures in the mid 30's at 8 or 9pm and the same for the northern territory.
one problem i have noticed with daylight saving is that its a sudden change. winter to summer is gradual but last weekend one day its dark at 7.30 and the next the sun is still up at that time. maybe we could do it in stages. although i dont think thats very practical. it would go alot easier on the body for the first few days. |

What we really need is a weekend DST, what use is it having the sun come up at around 6.30 on a weekend? You would think the sun would be more considerate.
I suggest clocks be moved forward 2 hours every Friday night, then we would be able to stay out nice and late and still get home before dark! Everyone knows you cannot have family time after dark, right ausgal951753?
Imagine how much power we will save, how safe we will be at night in town, that silly old sun wont get up until around 8:30 on the weekends AND we would be on the same time zone as Sydney! wow! Just bring the clocks back on sunday nights so we can get up at the right time on Mondays.
We could do it on public holidays as well!
Oh yes, and bring back the imperial measurement system as well, our petrol will be cheaper, we will own more land and everything will be closer.
Are you listening Mr Dor"k"azio? |

auntynoall,
Perhaps a re-adjustment of your nickname would be appropriate.
Do you have any idea what can happen to a motor vehicle if it isn't washed and cared for properly?
In regards to your second comment (i.e. How do people in the east get their kids to bed on time - they don't - simple), well that has to rate as one of the most ludicrous things i have read. |

"Stupidist"????
And not to rag on WA, but the only reason it 'spins' so much money is because of mining - period. If only some of this money was invested into the community to make Perth (not necessarily the whole of WA) a vibrant, lively city, whereby we can enjoy our beautiful environment with modern, up-to-date facilities. |

One of the things we were told about the whole daylight savings debate was that it would give families more time to enjoy the outdoors together.
Well yesterday I decided to go to the beach and while driving there I thought about the amount of people that would be there enjoying the extra daylight and thinking that maybe it would be a bad idea.
What people???
Where were the expected crowds of people out enjoying the sun. There was me, my mate and two other people on the entire beach. Oh also 5 lifeguards.
Since the introduction of this hogwash its been the same. No increase in people out and about, no family picnics nothing.
So what are all the so called daylight savings supporters doing. Cause they are not outside enjoying the extra sunshine.
They are most likly at home, too buggered from working to even think about going anywhere with the family.
Lets face it if you really wanted to spend more time with the family, wife and kids, husband and kids, you would make time to do so.
Introducing a pathetic concept will not suddenly make you want to do your duty.
Im looking forward to the day when I can finally go back to running on the beach in the mornings.
At 5am its pitch black so you cant even go swimming, not unless you want to get eaten by sharks. By 5.30 when the sun decides to peak out from behind the Darling Range I am already on my way to work. |

No offence, but I would safely guess that their are a larger number of people in bed at 5:30am than out of bed.
Also, in our neighbourhood, the number of children outdoors stuffing around with each other has certainly 'increased' over the week. |

No offence taken. If I could I would still be in bed at this time too. |

That extra hour of daylight really dosn't make that much difference. your normal 9 to 5 workers now go home during the hotter time of the day, and this does also include your kids.
My water truck still turns up at 9am, so now have to operate irrigation when it is dark, (dosn't matter in the winter because irrigation not in use)
Oh well to those people that don't like daylight saving, how many of you voted this government into power in the first place.
Wasn't/Isn't Mr D’Orazio being investigated by the CCC?
So maybe in 3 years time, we could return back to a democracy by voting no for daylight saving, and also no for the current government, and let the people of WA choose. |

in the end it is the states voters that have the choice of who is in parlament or not and hence the same is the case when it comes to daylight savings although personally I will be supporting it fully as I am a WA resident as of Friday and still in Tassie I love the extra hour of light and all good associated with it.

| Jaykaye - your motor vehicle runs a poor third to drinking water and keeping crops alive. Do you think that those of us actually living in the drought wash our cars every weekend? As for kids bedtimes - honestly been through DLS a few times and many of us think the same. |

If you think washing your car a maximum of once every fortnight to a month, then you are somewhat deluded. Irrespective, I fail to see how washing the car even comes into this argument (aside from me stating, I was able to wash my car after work on a Sunday).
As for DLS and childrens sleep patterns, your suggestion that those in the eastern states don't get to sleep is ridiculous. You also fail to take into account that a child will often sleep for as long as their body requires for them to do so. Given that during the summer, children are on holidays (for the most part), the opportunity for them to sleep during the morning increases - as they do. |

Quoting your comments:
"What people??? Where were the expected crowds of people out enjoying the sun. No increase in people out and about, no family picnics nothing."
What were we all doing! What we have always done... Waiting impatiently for that darn hot sun to go down so we can enjoy quality time with our family and friends in the cool of the evening (an hour later) when we finally get some relief from the heat of the day.
You guys in other DLS States may think we are crazy... But you just don't get it!
Come see just how hot it can frequently be in the late afternoons down here in Perth for starters. Heaven help our fellow Sandgropers way up in the north of our huge State.
It has frequently been stated that the advantages of that hour can make our business connections with the eastern states. The two hour difference is still there.... Dah!
Note: Most of our trading is done with our neighbours to the North in Asia etc and without DLS they are in the same time zone as us... until now! Major companies in the eastern states who also frequently deal with our northern neighbours have business branches installed in WA so they too can take advantage of being in the same time zone and the ease of trading.
Now tell me DLS is a fantasic idea for us in WA! |

thats because they day you mentioned had a max in the low 20's and had a strong seabreeze. who wants to go to the beach then. as all you non daylight saving advocates have always said why do we need extra afternoon sun when its 35-40 degrees at 6-7pm. the hottest day so far in the trial has been 34 and that was the first day :P just proves that arguement wrong
also as a pizza delivery driver :P i have seen a huge increase in people, familes, couples, individuals in my local suburbs going out for a walk in the saved daylight hour. no we are not all going to the beach but yes we are enjoying the extra hour by going for a walk and going to a park with our families. |

| If you change the clock by 1 hr there will still be a time difference between Perth and Melbourne. But think about it, if it wasnt changed Perth would be in the same time zone as Singapore, KL, Beijing and HK. That can be used as an advantage over the eastern states for business. But now WA has lost that advantage. |

Daylight savings is a silly idea and shows no thought or initiative by our government.
Just have summer working hours were work places and schools start one hour earlier but leave the clocks alone.
If a concensus is reached by workers then let majority rule (what is best for the majority) Sure it may be a bit confusing but at least their is a choice and we the people have a real say. |

| daylight saving was awesome for christmas this year. was able to go for a swim at the beach, go fishing and have a decent backyard cricket game all after dinner. was able to play cricket until about 9pm. it was a great way for the family to bond together. even if it doesnt get voted in, in 2009 we should just have it for like a 2 week period over christmas and new year. |

I hate it !
Period !
Everyone in my family is a load more exhausted , I used to have dinner prepared for 6pm , now the kids are staying out later playing soccer at the park which means we eat later and I get to clean up later during the time I would have normally had my feet up .....Instead of 8.30pm being my sit down time ,I now get to finally sit down at 9.30pm by which time everything good on TV is either half way through or finished .....So I just go to bed .....
I will definatly be voting against it ......Normal people and states don't need to change clocks ......it's normal leaving clocks how they are ! |
