The Sea Shepherd vessel Steve Irwin docked in Fremantle yesterday at E berth ; to undergo repairs and maintainence before the ship opens to the public for tours this Sunday at 10am.
Tours will opperate untill November 23 and from December 1 till 7, after which the ship will head to the Southern Ocean to begin its next anti whaling campaign.
The West Australian- Thursday November the 5th.

This; despite the Federal governments attempts, on behalf of the Japanese government- to stop Captain Paul and senior crew members from being allowed to board her in Australia ,by demanding police record checks.
Finally bowing to public pressure ;he has been granted a visa.
That disgusting turncoat Garret; was being interviewed on ABC Mornings, with Geoff this morning and insisted that there is; "no evidence, that EVEN ONE whale, has been saved by the efforts of Paul Watson and the tactics he and the Sea Shepherd crew utilise and the best way is to keep using the same inaction he has shown on most matters environmental, since he gained his seat under false pretences; by pretending he had the welfare of whales and the environment uppermost!
He justified if by the fact that Greenpeace would no longer go down there to shadow the whalers.
All but one of the callers, following his disgusting diatribe-were in support of Captain Watson and his crew and their brave fight to save the whales and very derogatory of Garret.
Geoff is a great supporter of Paul Watson and Sea Shepherd and has had numerous interviews with him over the past years.
I am certain he will have more ;before the crew embark on their perilous journey ,too.
Garret is the greatest lier and hyocrite, to ever grace the environmental portfolio.
I bet his old band mates cringe; every time he opens his mouth and puts a lie, to all he -and they; once appeared to stand for.
Something they all still do!!
Awaiting his pronouncement on James Price Point!!Which they are against! |

You're not wrong about garrett.
Either he was a pretender his whole life, or the rough game of politics has beaten him into submission. |

now hes just fobbed off the request to have koalas put on the endangered spceies list.
Does he ever do anything for the environmant!?
Whats he waiting for-till they are all gone.
Time, voters put him on the endangered list-while we still have some species left to save.
Gutless wonder he is!
I think Labor just put him up as a front ;to make noises like an empty tin can; while they delude people into thinking they were concerned about the environment-and by the tine electors wake up ,that it's all a sham-it will be too late! |

The only way Garrett could get elected was by being parachuted in to a safe seat with a major party.
As for the Sea Shepherd what they do on what is called the High Seas is all legal and above board so, unfortunately, is the whaling the Japanese do. the High Seas are almost totally without any law to abide by. |

That's what we all thought. That's what labor was counting on. Seems they wanted him for his loud mouth rather than his ideals....or at least what we THOUGHT his ideals were. |

| strike for the environment??? think about the ramifications for the environment with QLD moving to drawing huge amounts of water from oceanic desalination and the carbon footprint that will create. It was no stike for the environment, merely another capitulation to a combination of vested interest and "green" stupidity |

Must be the Whale and chips season again.
I still have not been able to source whale meat in Australia, I really want to try it.
And Garrett no comment, he would rather add carbon to the atmosphere than build a clean dam. |

| ausgal, I used to by it by the tonne for stockfeed, of course that was when australia was a whaling country and couldn't feel superior to the japanese, now as we get further and further removed from any contact with our environment our opinions have become distorted by propagander from ratbag groups wanting a bite at your dollar |

We farm animals to eat, as long as we eat lamb, chicken, beef, fish etc. How can we critisise teh Japanese for eating a animal.
The Japanes may think we are barbarians for eating the Kangaroo.
As long as we kill for food and in a sustainable way, we should kill and eat as we please. |

When you think about it, it makes sense to eat whales. Their blubber just has to be packed with nutrients, they are plentiful, and they are pretty much at the top of the food chain...meaning we remove numbers of them, and the lower links in the chain will recover (slightly).
If it's their intelligence that tells you it's wrong...just remember how intelligent they say pigs are. |

the problem with your thinking there is ;we didnt just remove numbers of them-we removed hundreds of thouands of them ,in a couple of short decades!
For no more reason, than rendering them down for oil-which we no longer need to do .
To the extent ;that they were near extinction before the world woke up!
Now ;as most nations of the world have stopped whaling and the numbers have pulled back from the brink-a small group of government supported and subsidised businessmen-think they have the right to kill animals that would not exist ,if the rest of the world had not sworn restraint.
Just as the the Japanese have done with overfishing our tuna stocks ;while our fisherman have been stickimg to the agreed quotas to preserve them.
Or the near wiping out of many shark species for the Japanese market in the disgusting trade of shark finning.
Fleets of boats-paid for by Japanese businesmen to pillage our coastline ;where fish are still moreabundant as they ahvent been wiped out by Japanese practices on the high seas such as long lineing or netting with huge nets that catch every living species-wanted or not.
Or bottom trawling ;that leaves the ocean floor a desert.
With modern sonar and sattelite-fish dont stand a chance-it wont be long before most of the planet's species are wiped out, by the same greed that almost destroyed many species of whales.
Some of which, still hover on the brink of extinction.
And there is no gaurantee ,that the Japanese are not catching them; while no one is watching ; as they pillage the Antarctic waters.
Out of sight-out of mind; till its too late!
Its not whales that are removing th majority of the fish stocks in the ocean and they are selective-unlike long lines and nets; which remove everything; then throw back what they dont want-dead!
The largest species fo whales are balleen feeders -so they eat no fish. |

thier blubber may be packed with nutrients-but it is also packed with the poisons and heavy metals that are polluting the oceans ;which they accumulate over time.
These substances are then passed onto thier young during the placental stage and milk feeding-adding to their toxic load.
The same process that is killing the dolphins in the swan River.
All the result of human practices! |

><<>
please explain the manner in which the Japanese farm whales-the last I knew ;they were wild animals that lived their life in the ocean.?
The Japanese had no input in thier growth or feeding.
><><
As long as we kill for food and in a sustainable way, we should kill and eat as we please.
><><
please explain; how the stockpiles of unwanted whale meat in storage in Japan; that they are trying to sell for pet food-makes it killing for food!?
Or the fact that they have to go out to schools and try to convince shildren to eat something they find unpalatable.?
and anyway-the Japanese excuse for killing whales-is that they are doing it for scientific research but the loophole in the whaling treaty says; if they do this-they should then use the meat which is a byproduct ;instead of wasting it.
They need to take the ear wax sample from inside the ear to see how old they are -(Australians are smart enough ;to be able to take a tiny tissue sample from outisde ,to do the same thing)-so whales are not killed on a sustainable basis; of taking those that are a reasonable size.
This allows them to take very young ones ;as well-which then have no chance to breed and multiply themselves.
Then ;they kill them to see how many of them there are out there-thats sort fo like bringing all your sheep in and killing all of them ,so you can count them to see how many you can kill in the future! |

The Steve Irwin Docks in Fremantle
Peter Garret called on to visit ship
The Steve Irwin arrived in Fremantle at Victoria Quay at 3:15 PM on Thursday, November 5th. Supporters were able to see the ship entering the harbor.
Captain Alex Cornelissen said, âPeter Garret is in town and we call on him to come to the ship, and tell us what he intends to do to end the whale slaughter this year. What is he going to do to uphold his governmentâs election promises? We have support from everyone else except the Minister who should be making these decisions.â
Cornelissen continued, âThe support so far in Fremantle has been excellent. We hosted Fremantle Mayor Brad Petit, and local state member Adele Carles for dinner, as well as a contingent of other Greens. Former mayor Peter Tagliaferri has also visited the ship. We look forward to meeting with former Environment Minister Ian Campbell this week.â
Former Environment Minister and Sea Shepherd Advisory Board Member Ian Campbell has welcomed the shipâs arrival and reiterated the invitation to Peter Garret to visit the ship when he is in Perth this week.
âSea Shepherd is the only organization in the world actually intervening to reduce the whale slaughter. I encourage my former colleague and current Environment Minister to meet with Sea Shepherd and advise what he plans to do to end the whale slaughter,â said Campbell.
The Steve Irwin will be carrying out final preparations and provisioning for its next Whale Defense Campaign Operation Waltzing Matilda to stop the slaughter of whales in Australiaâs Southern Ocean Whale Sanctuary and would like to welcome supporters on board for free tours in Fremantle once we are berthed.
As of 8th November the Steve Irwin will be located at C Berth, Victoria Quay, Fremantle. Tours will be available Friday to Sunday 9:30-5:30 PM starting ... |
