It just finished here in the UK. It's odd, having the sun go down at 5PM, dark by 6PM.

Re:Daylight Saving Reply to this message
should make you feel at home jay-just like winter in WA!!

Bet summer temp there, is like winter in WA ,too!

Sky lightening in the west last nite here and heavy showers all day-at least we had the lambs undercover and dry, so they could be shorn.

Then the rains stopped and no wind, and it's pretty warm tonite-so all's well!

Supposed to be low twenties all week and rain 2-3 days!

Re:Daylight Saving Reply to this message
Had a really nice summer here actually. Not nearly as bad as I had expected.

Starting to change now though (aside from it not being so bad this week).

Sounds like the winter back "home" has been a pretty good one this year - a bit colder and wetter?

So you rehash that tired old joke YET AGAIN...and call US backwards? Surely someone living in such a progressive and vibrant state as you should be able to come up with something remotely original or witty?

Given I live in London, and you somewhere in the East, should I take the piss on account on you living in a "backward" place...?

Nah, only a moron would do that.

napier48 - '''Is it true that in WA compared to the Eastern States you need to wind your clock back 3 Hours + 10 years..??'''

it is true that without "western bogan backwater", you will be begging on chinese streets? just to have bread on your table?

it is true that your "advanced" state is so much in the financial hole that it beg federal government to pay wages for state beaurocrats, police and is begging federal government to take over schooling system and state health system (of course it is named lobbying for "betterment of the services" not such crude term as: "we are BANCRUPT! beg you give bread!")?

it is true that police is so corrupted in nsw that only sictorian better that "achievement"?

keep your "advantages"... i am happy living debt free in supposed "backwater"... even if politicians here are just marginally better than there...

Re:Daylight Saving Reply to this message
DLS or Dirty Lizard Sickness is the most horrid & stupid thing around! Like for vile heat UV addicts to have their precious sun till pukkin midnite!

I hate summer and go into hibination as it is for that torturous season, while lizards bake like lobsters on filthy beaches....bucket!
Have it in winter so us cold lovers can have more time in the snow!
Summer days are already long enough without the horrid thing!
And to all you summer loving bullies out there go catch a melanoma & spare a thought for victims of fires in your stinkin season!

ROLL ON WINTER!!!!!!

Re:Daylight Saving Reply to this message
All I know is this thread will still be going when the next WA Daylight Saving Trial starts. At least we wont have to start a new one :)

At least my PC proudly displays Western Daylight Saving Time, as does most of the other clocks in the house.

The new daylight saving group on Facebook is going strong, and we already have some MP's on our side. The thing in our favour is the anti-daylight saving group used March as an excuse for the Yes people that did not like March in DLS to vote no. Saying to wait for a better "comprimise" in the future.

That comprimise is starting now. The next bill will start daylight saving on the 1st Sunday in November and end it on the last Sunday in February. This does not go against the wishes of the referendum, as that referendum did not ask that question, that was for October to the end of March.

It may take 5 years, it may take 10 years, or it may take 20 years. But we will get daylight saving again. :)

Re:Daylight Saving Reply to this message
It will never ever be let go. We never let go in 1992, we waited for 14 years. We will wait that long again if we have to.

Perth voted yes 4 times. Our lifestyle is so different to the country and hence the reason Perth keeps voting yes.

If anything this should be a Federal issue. Either the whole country should do it, or no one should.

Perth people had to put up with the no whingers for the past 3 summers. It's our turn to whinge. Get use to it!

Re:Daylight Saving Reply to this message
has anyone EVER actually given a valid scientific or economic reason for or against DLS?

And not the "they do it so we should too" argument.
I call that the lemming response and itr is NOT a valid response.

And the fact that 'Perth' voted for it is not a valid reason either.

Perth is one part of WA and the majority of WA voted against it.

That's the way a democracy works people.

I wanted extended trading hours too but that got the no vote and you don't hear me whining about that...

darthbobo, that is true. But, we are also one country. So why not have a national referendum on it?

You mob should be careful with DLS. We had to give it away in QLD after the curtains faded & the cows got confused about milking times.

Re:Daylight Saving Reply to this message
there is no positive scientific evidence giving any positive result for dls, there is some anecdotal, seem like dls is one of these "keep up with joneses" stuffs...

there is ample research and eveidence about negative results for dls, it's effect on circadian clock on some people (myself including) is rather disasterous... for a week or two i am dead... beside that there is several countries which did introduced dls and later, on the base of they local research abandoned it.

minority of the world only bother with changing the time pieces, only about 3 or 4 african countries do, in south america only part of brasil and part of chile. in europe iceland do not bother, there are few states in us and canada which do not observe dls either, just handful countries in asia do, china, japan, india, korea, most of central asia, all abandoned it...

us done study in 1975/76 and discovered that there is no energy saving due to dls at all...

oz in general, during dls period, do not decrese energy use but increase it by 0.6%! and increase energy prices...

wa, while it introduced trial dls - did not published this data, now it is available, did not decrease but increase energy use by 0.6%!!! shifted as well energy use from evening domestic to industrial morning!

logisticaly, there is no real benefit from it, therefore, personally, i do not see a reason for it.
