Went to the Norfolk in Freo for a meal with friends last night.
Not normally the sorta place I'd go for a meal but some friends are moving to Darwin next week and so consequently, it was their choice of venue.
I really like the atmosphere of this pub!!!
The menu is fairly basic although it should cater to most apetites.
Same with the wine list...fairly limited in choice.
Food was reasonably priced, good sized portions, very tasty but took FOREVER to get it to the table...we musta waited something like 45-60 mins to receive our order (and the pub wasnt that packed with people!)
Lots of shade sails and covered areas outside while still maintaining a light breezy feel.
Being winter, there are gas heaters blazing everywhere which keeps the ambient temperature comfortable.
All up, nothing particularly fancy but a pleasant venue nonetheless.
Cheers :) |

"C's" is an overpriced dive just one step above Sizzler, the food is at best passable! |

Here's another gem for ya!
Did The Essex in Freo on Fri night.
In a word...FANTASTIC!!!
Very chic, good menu, lovely wine list, and not that pricey either...very good value for money considering it is an up-market venue.
The restaurant is in Essex St Freo, bookings are ESSENTIAL!!! We saw about 6 couples try for a walk in table only to be politely re-buffed as the restaurant was chockers.
Nice building...old house tastefully laid out with light and neutral but stylish furniture and decor.
Gold plates and awards feature prominently near the entrance as a testament to the quality of what emerges from the kitchens.
On our table we sampled both the Tempura Whiting and Garlic Prawns for entree. Mains was Warrigal Chicken (a signature dish) and Fillet Gabrielle.
The Tempura Whiting was suprisingly large for an entree but delicious nonetheless.
The Garlic Prawns were sizzling in EVOO tossed with plenty of Garlic and garnished with onion...none of this bulking it out and submerging a few sub-par prawns in a creamy sauce!
The Warrigal chicken was also a large serve being a roasted portion stuffed with macadamia nut, apricots, and herbs with a small potato cake.
Fillet Gabrielle was 2 slices of cube roll cooked to your liking that have been stuffed with local scallops on a bed of mash smothered in gravy...and the chef does actually know how to cook rare beef too :)
Throw in a lovely Sauvignon Blanc, a few pre-dinner Delicious, some garlic bread and a salad for the table etc...the total bill came to just under $180.
As I said...very reasonable pricing given what we ordered and the quality we received.
I should also mention the service of the wait staff...VERY PROFESSIONAL!!!
I really detest wait staff who are pushy, trying to turn over tables, or just plain hover about all the time.
The staff were courteous, knowledgeable of the menu, always there to top up your wine or water, dishes served/cleared promptly etc
10/10 |

Ok so here's another place I've tried...
Went to Caesar's in Freo with a large group of people on the weekend.
Now I've been there before and it was pretty good for an el-cheapo Italian pasta type restaurant.
The tasting plates are excellent value for an entree with plenty of food and a good variety of tasty treats to sample.
Mains however can be a mixed bag...either very good or woefully awful!
Now our evening out there wasnt great by any means...
We had a stoush very early on in the night with a rather obnoxious plump "waitress" who accosted the entire table because one fella who had come down from the country had brought a few beers along with him. Being a country fella, BYO to him meant exactly that as opposed to what it generally entails in most establishments referring to BYO wines.
Needless to say this tub thumpin trollop copped an ear bashing for her inappropriate behaviour.
Next it took over an hour after we were seated for tasting plates to arrive which were supposed to be on the table awaiting our arrival.
Then it was 2.5 hours for mains to arrive...not good especially since there were a number of young children with us who by this time were gnawing on each other to supress hunger pains!

The mains when they were finally delivered were shit...any self respecting chef would have been appalled to serve such slop!
Pasta's were dry and hard including what supposedly passed for sauce covering them, FOD (red emperor) was drowned in napolitana sauce containing so many olives and capers as to be salty to the extreme and basically inedible. Steaks were OK though from what I could see as were the pizza's!
I'm inclined to suspect that the food was delivered so late in an attempt by the manager to get people drinking more and thereby fatten the bill somewhat. With a large table the temptation to do so is enormous considering profits are made from drinks rather than the food.
As I mentioned previously I had been here before and had a pleasant experience so I'll put this down to copping them on a VERY bad night.
So I can only suggest it's basically a diner beware scenario and hope others catch them on a good night where they arent busy.
Overall I'd give it about 3/10 mostly for overall value for money...although the appalling service and hit/miss quality of the meals makes it somewhere I'd have to think twice about returning there again. |

Catalano's, Victoria Park
Went for a late Sunday Arvo Lunch!
Nice Restaurant, Busy, Great Atmosphere.
Food was delicious, prices were reasonable!
Steak Sandwich, Chips & Salad all for around $12.00.
Huge meals and we were all really full by the time we left!
If anyone rememeber the Lake Street Cafe, this is there new restaurant!
Staff were all really nice and look after us well.
Food was brought to tables quite quickly and they have quite a good range to choose from.
I can only whinge about one thing! Very busy and they obviously get alot of people in and out! Tables were small & you didnt have alot of room to move!
All in all it was great for a lazy Sunday Lunch! Will definately be going back! 8/10 |

Here's a little suburban gem for you all to try -
Enrico's in Yangebup on Moorhen Drive
Had some friends invite me out for dinner and we went along to this little suburban Italian joint.
Looks can be very deceiving as this place doesnt look like much from the front.
Inside, the furniture and decor are serviceable although a little plain. Likewise the lighting is a bit dim for my taste. Service from the staff is ok.
But the food is EXCELLENT!!!
Sampled an antipasto tasting plate which contained 3 types of salami (including chorizo sausage), proscuitto, sliced ham, handful of olives & sun dried tomato, pickled veg, and foccacia all on a bed of lettuce drizzled with balsamic vinegar...heaps on the plate and for under $20 represents GREAT VALUE esp with proscuitto retailing for over $35 per kilo!
Mains for me was Scallopini Prawns...5 palm sized veal medallions cooked to perfection with 5 extra large prawns, and a few chunks of avocado in a creamy garlic white wine sauce. Comes with a generous portion of chips and salad...AGAIN under $20 represents great value!
Many restaurants these days will charge $15 for about the same qty of prawns for an entree size garlic prawns as I had in my mains so to get the salad, chips, and the veal for a couple of extra $ was quite suprising.
The restaurant is strictly BYO all alcohol with the nearest bottleshop some 5-10 mins drive away...so dont forget to grab a bottle of wine to take with you!
For the prettier half and I, our total bill for 2 mains and the tasting plate came to $58...great food, large serves, and a paltry bill...you just cant ask for anything better from a night out!!!
The place was ch0ckers so be prepared to book ahead...I think the place has quite a reputation amongst locals and deservedly so too!
Many thanks to the staff for a great night out!
Cheers :) |

| Yes Enrico's is an awesome top meal and great value, dined there a few weeks ago and they even squeezed us in without a booking. We enjoyed the anitpasto as well, and the steak was cooked to perfection, we will definately go there again, I love finding a good local eatery worth their weight! |

We did another family outing last weekend at a restaurant which warrants mention -
We had lunch on Sunday at The Royal Brasserie on Royal St in East Perth.
Beautiful location being right on the boardwalk overlooking the c@nal area and the interior of restaurant itself is also quite tastefully decorated.
The venue would make a lovely function centre and could easily cater to events such as wedding receptions.
If you enter from Plain St/Royal St corner be warned - there are a LOT of stairs to tackle before you eventually descend to the restaurant or boardwalk area.
There is a lift inside the street level entrance on Royal St. It is somewhat difficult to locate if you dont know it's there...we had an elderly lady with us and unfortunately only found it as we exited the building!
Food was OK - good sized portions at a reasonable price (mains $18-35, entrees $7-25).
Kids menu portions ($9) are HUGE catering I guess to older kids more than little-un's.
There are separate lunch and dinner menu's although you can order lunch from the dinner menu if you so desire.
Wine selection is average but a little expensive (eg btl of Amberley Chenin Blanc $28 is a bit pricey for IMO what is a cheap wine).
What lets the place down however is the service or rather the distinct lack of it.
Bar staff are constantly attempting to perfect bottle/glass tossing skills rather than tending the bar.
Wait staff are always busily walking about with their eyes averted to avoid patrons.
It took our table some 30 mins after being seated to attract wait staff to take our order!
Many seem to be unenthusiastic students or recent immigrants with poor language skills.
