Re:Great Perth Restaurants (PREVIEW)
For fine dining Hilite 33 was nice. Food was well presented expensive.
Hilite 33 is now known as "C restaurant"
Basically the same deal as before...set menu with limited choices for entree, mains, and dessert. Prices are exorbitant IMO although the wine list is good. Views are still excellent of course.
This used to be one of "THE" places to take a date for a fancy night out. Personally I think there are much better places that are more intimate and more upmarket than C restaurant.
What is has by way of views, it loses in high price, limited menu, and loss of the formal dress code!
Just my opinion.
Cheers :) |

Best smorgesboard was at the Atrium in Burswood. Its expensive, but compared to Jetty's, theres a heaaaps more on offer and better quality.
Best Pizza- Santa Lucias in Heathridge. They dont skimp on topping!
I've enjoyed both Jetty's at Hillary's and the Atrium in Burswood...both are good if you want a buffet at a decent price! Mind you I also enjoyed the buffet at THE CAFE at The Hyatt as well.
Santa Lucia in heathridge has been around since Adam was a lad and is also well known for it's Pizza's...same as Marco's in Joondanna, Pompeii Pizza in Morley, Chelsea Pizza at Chelsea Tavern on Stirling Hwy, Pizza Express in Hilton to name a few. I'va also heard of the place mentioned by IC (Diamond Dust) up in the hills...supposedly great pizza although I havent tried it yet! |

Had a great dinner at Driftwood Winery near Margaret River last Sat night. Food was delicious, good sized portions, nice views over the winery, althought the service was a bit slack and the prices were expensive.
$42 each for either a massive 500g steak or equally large fillet of Red Emperor...OUCH!
Most wines though are approx $25 by the bottle. |

I love Hippo Creek in Scarborough, great food, great service.
And also Ouzo's in North Perth. Fantastic traditional food with plate smashing and dancing. The entire restaurant gets involved. Great fun night out. |

Went to 2 suburban hotels recently for meals with mixed results.
The Kardinya Tavern on South St...serving size was quite large and meal was cooked OK, nothing particularly special about it, but overall was OK. Prices were a bit on the $$$ side for a pub meal I think though.
Also had the pleasure of experiencing "Fitzy's Bistro" at the Southlake Tavern I think it is on Berrigan Drive.
Now this place is hard to miss with writing a mile high in large letters plastered all over the building...very visible from Berrigan Drive!
Great family atmosphere, staff are fantastic with kids of all ages and temperments, meals were lovely - very professionally presented (testament to the expertise of the kitchen staff), serving sizes were OK (not too big nor too small either), and the price was quite reasonable - $10 kids meals also included a drink and icecream - great value! Maincourse meals averaged $20-30 max.
From memory, I had a Sirloin steak which was cooked to perfection, but I also kept an eye on dishes heading to other tables...surf n turf looked excellent, fish n chips was swish, curry looked appetising, lamb shanks looked absolutely delicious!
Anyone living nearby should definitely check out Fitzy's Bistro...well worth a visit! |

| Sizzler isn't a restaurant. A restaurant is where you sit down and PEOPLE SERVE YOU. Sizzler is a cafeteria where you queue up to fill your plate with crap and then queue up to get overcharged for drinks. No doubt they'll soon be requiring patrons to clear their own table. |

Did the Hotham Valley Railway for Xmas in July menu dinner on Emitlyn Express Dinner Train on Sat night.
In a word...lovely and worth doing!!! :)
It's an authentic circa 1900's rail dining car, very quaint and run by volunteers on Hotham Valley Railway located in Dwellingup.
Cost was $85 per head plus $15 coach fare to/from Dwellingup picking up from either East Perth Rail terminal or Armadale at the old Pioneer Village.
You can of course forgo the coach side of things and drive down to Dwellingup and just board the train for dinner for $85 per head.
Dinner was lovely 5 course meal with complimentary sherry and after dinner coffee/tea and port.
Dinner was soup, fish entree, traditional ham/turkey christmas dinner, christmas pudding dessert, cheese n fruit platter...meal itself was ok, nothing particularly fancy or special, wasnt cooked on the train during the journey I dont think, prolly warmed or re-heated after being prepared beforehand.
Drink prices are reasonable with ok selection of beverages available.
For the price you get transport basically there n back (for the extra $15 coach fare), a nice meal in quaint old fashioned railway dining car surroundings, good service, delightful train journey through SW Jarrah forrests, a couple of free drinks (sherry and port) all for roughly $100 per head.
Put a couple of bottles of wine over dinner on top at $25 each and you have a lovely night out for 2 people for about $250 in total. |

| I was on that dinner train and it would have been really good but I was extreemly disapointed with the food. The quality was that of a TV snack except worse. I've had better meals on Virgin economy flights. Also the very limited wine and beer selection was pathetic. |

I really have to agree. Took my wife & son to Sizzler, first time any of us have been inside one of the places for at least 15 years. As usual, we - the customer - have to queue up to serve the staff, and pay in advance. As if that isn't bad enough. But it's hardly a "budget" meal, either.
One notable thing.. I don't think I've ever seen such a congregation of big fat people in any one place as I saw at Sizzler's that day. Seriously - it looked like Morbidly Obese Persons' Day Out. |

has anyone been to the elizabethan village roleystone. Their food is gorgeous and they brew their own beer like the Last Drop, beatiful fod, good size meals and won't break your bank either. Staff are very nice and atmosphere is very calm and relaxing. I drive from rockingham upto roleystone to have a decent lunch with my mate and it is well worth the hour long drive. If you sit outside there is also an abundance of wildlife and espescially the little bandicoots who come sniffing around for a feed.
This i would have to say is my number one restaurant, 2nd last drop tavern and then the nags head in rockingham has pretty good food and nice atmosphere too. |
