I also worked at shay gap in the truck shop and sometimes in the 62 crew only for 2 years but this was considered the norm back in the eighties.
Some of the best years of my life |

It was a brilliant town full of wonderful colourful people who made living and working in Goldsworthy so much fun.
I did my apprenticeship there along with my brother and Dad worked in train control. Hope you all come along to the reunion in October! |

| I just stumbled acorss this old bunch of messages. I pretty much grew up in Paraburdoo (from 3-12) and used to love going to the mess on Sundays as a kid. I left there in 83 and to this day I still miss the area and sadly I have been been able to go back for a visit. |

| G'day, I remember Goldsworthy. I was born in Port Hedland hospital and lived in Goldsworthy untill 1987. Mt Goldsworthy was last operated in 1982 and the town shutdown about 10 or so years after that. Shay Gap was closed only a few years after that. |

Hi All!
Have very clear memories of Goldsworthy, especially the Black Rock Stakes - me and my sister (Emma and Sara Partridge) both took part in the Flying Fleas team, along with Gab, Todd, Shelley and lots of other people, whose names escape me. Clearing out my dad's flat the other day and found a lot of photos of the team and an essay we had to write at school about the race.
Now living in UK, get asked a lot what life was like in Australia and it's always fun to see their faces when you tell them about the blackrock stakes!!
Any other Flying Fleas out there? |

Gidday !! All you goldsworthy folk !!
I worked in goldsworthy in the 1980s and took hundreds of photos ! I have just put a 110 of them (and there are hundreds more to come !)on a site called www.friendsreunited.com just search in the part where it says work places. Some of the photos include - the pool, flying fleas, power house, haulpacks, the mine, workshops, golf course ,trains and 80 mile beach !! You never know you or someone you know may be in some of the photos ! It was sad when i heard that they took everything including the roads away, i was hoping to come over(i stay in scotland) and at least see something left ! If anyone wants a copy of any of these photos please email me through the site and i will email you a full size copy. Enjoy my memories !

Hallo to you all who still rember me as Fritz, The Lord Mayor of Warralong.
I have been living and working in Darwin for the last decade and only ran into a few ex Goldsworthy people up here as in: Jimbo(Boilermaker from Shay Gap), Peggy,
Trevor and Giane Beckman, Shane Helmrich, Chrissy McCracken and Bob Ashfield who past away a few years ago.
Sad to hear that Little Lofty past away as so many others.
I went for a short trip to Perth and port Hedland about a month ago when I caught up with Janine Howard and Dacron sons in Perth and Bob Ridly at Hedland Airport.
I also keep in touch with Peter Hawk, Ernie and Maria Sincialla and Alf and Barryl Jordan through x-mass cards.
Goldswothy comes always back in my memories and I spent the best time of my life there.
Lets all get together in October.
Love you all, Fritz
P.S. Is anyone able to get a copy of the book: My Balloons fly over Goldsworthy? You can also e-mail me at work: peter.schlosser@nt.gov.au |

| Hi There, me and my hubby live in port hedland and we went out for a drive and saw the goldsworthy mine. It looks so pretty with the water in it now. Just wondering a bit about the history of the mine, why did it close down? Also, i see people talking of a township, how do you get to the township and also to Shay Gap? |

both Shay Gap and Goldsworthy town buildings were carted away and the sites rehabilitated when the mines closed-that is part of the govt deal for allowing mines to open.
Read back on the thread and you will get a lot more info. |
